Some theoretical and experimental aspects of the dynamics of the H(D) + Cl2 reaction re-examined

The OARDV (oriented-averaged rotation-decoupled vibration) model is applied to the H(D) + Cl₂ reaction. The resulting vibrotational and vibrational distributions form the basis for a discussion of several theoretical and experimental problems not yet definitively settled, including the optimization of the ground-state potential surface, the possible occurrence of a bimodal structure in the vibrational product distributions if reaction starts with reagents in v = 1, and the assignment of initial rotational distributions within each vibrational product level. An OARDV-based method is suggested enabling assignment of these initial distributions from the observed, partially relaxed ones in a consistent way, using only experimental input.

We discuss the asymptotic behaviour of acoustic and electromagnetic waves, generated by given time-harmonic exterior forces with frequency ω, in the unbounded region between the parallel planes X₃ = 0 and X₃ = 1, and show that the principle of limiting amplitude is violated if ω = πn(n = 1, 2,…). For these values of the frequency, forces with compact support can be chosen such that the amplitudes of the waves increase with a logarithmic rate as t → ∞.     

An improved procedure for the preparation of very pure ethanol-OD

Changed molar ratio of starting materials and prolonged reaction times in the deuterolysis of tetraethylorthosilicate gave yields of pure (>99.5%) ethanol-OD (relative to starting D₂O) nearly twice of that of a literature procedure.

Interface properties of the three-state potts model in two dimensions

Interface properties, in particular the interface free energy and the interface profile of the three-state Potts model in two dimensions are studied using Monte Carlo techniques and a generalized version of the method of Müller-Hartmann and Zittartz. The role of the third state in characterizing the interface between the two other states is elucidated.
