Assignment of the 1H and 13C NMR Chemical Shifts of (3,4-Dihydro-2H-pyran-5-yl)-oxo-acetic Acid Methyl Ester Using the Two Dimensional HMBC Technique

The identification of (3, 4-dihydro-2H-pyran-5-yl)-oxo-acetic acid methyl ester has been realized by combination of two dimensional HETCOR and HMBC techniques. ¹³C and ¹H chemical shifts asignements are described.     

On Rescaled Poisson Processes and the Brownian Bridge

The process obtained by rescaling a homogeneous Poisson process by the maximum likelihood estimate of its intensity is shown to have surprisingly strong self-correcting behavior. Formulas for the conditional intensity and moments of the rescaled Poisson process are derived, and its behavior is demonstrated using simulations. Relationships to the Brownian bridge are explored, and implications for point process residual analysis are discussed.     

Quantization of Poisson-Lie groups and applications

LetG be a connected Poisson-Lie group. We discuss aspects of the question of Drinfel'd:can G be quantized? and give some answers. WhenG is semisimple (a case where the answer isyes), we introduce quantizable Poisson subalgebras ofC ^∞(G), related to harmonic analysis onG; they are a generalization of F.R.T. models of quantum groups, and provide new examples of quantized Poisson algebras.     

Relativistic calculations of coalescing binary neutron stars

We have designed and tested a new relativistic Lagrangian hydrodynamics code, which treats gravity in the conformally flat approximation to general relativity. We have tested the resulting code extensively, finding that it performs well for calculations of equilibrium single-star models, collapsing relativistic dust clouds, and quasi-circular orbits of equilibrium solutions. By adding a radiation reaction treatment, we compute the full evolution of a coalescing binary neutron star system. We find that the amount of mass ejected from the system, much less than a per cent, is greatly reduced by the inclusion of relativistic gravitation. The gravity wave energy spectrum shows a clear divergence away from the Newtonian point-mass form, consistent with the form derived from relativistic quasi-equilibrium fluid sequences.     

High-accuracy surface position sensor based on a two-lens system

Two optical lenses are used to compose a surface position measuring system. A measurand is positioned near the front focal point of the first lens. At the output end of the other lens, a beam splitter is used to split the beam into two paths. One photodetector is positioned before the focal point of the lens in one path and another after the focal point in the other so that the intensities falling onto the two detectors can be adjusted to be equal when the first lens is in focus. This device provides a compact and high-accuracy surface sensor. In this paper, the design and experimental study of the sensor system is described. It is shown that such a sensor embodiment can lead to a resolution of 1 μm.     

Wavelength-Resolved 3-Dimensional Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging

We have developed a compact system for wide-field fluorescence imaging, resolved in three spatial dimensions, lifetime and wavelength, that is based on a gated optical intensifier and an all-solid-state diode pumped Cr:LiSAF oscillator-amplifier system. Exploiting spectral separation, the system has been applied to human teeth, obtaining good lifetime contrast between enamel, dentin and caries. Exploiting spectral separation combined with depth resolution, the study of fluorescent microspheres led to an enhancement in both lifetime contrast and lateral resolution.     

Correlation between mechanical and electrical properties on conductive SiC-fibre reinforced composites

Electrical and mechanical properties of ceramic composites are investigated to develop “smart materials” and establish a fracture prediction technique. The “smart materials” are based on silicon carbide fibre-reinforced composites. The SiC-fibres were checked to determine the changes in mechanical and electrical properties during the composites’ production. Samples were produced for the determination of the mechanical strength with in situ detection of the degree of damage by recording the electrical resistance.     

On Non-simple Marked Point Processes

Simple point processes are often characterized by their associated compensators or conditional intensities. Non-simple point processes are not uniquely determined by their conditional intensity and compensator, so instead one may identify with the point process its associated simple point process and corresponding conditional intensity, on an expanded mark space. Some relations between the conditional intensity on the expanded mark space and the ordinary conditional intensity are investigated here, and some classes of separable non-simple processes are presented. Transformations into simple point processes, involving thinning and rescaling, are presented.
