By use of frequency-shifted feedback lasers, noise with a stationary amplitude and a periodically stationary phase is generated. The ensemble-averaged time correlation function is periodic, whereas the power spectrum is broadband, resulting in a waveform that does not obey the Wiener-Khintchine relations. A black hole may carry quantum numbers that arenot associated with massless gauge fields, contrary to the spirit of the no-hair theorems. The quantum hair is invisible in the classical limit, but measurable via quantum interference experiments. Quantum hair alters the temperature of the radiation emitted by a black hole. It also induces non-zero expectation values for fields outside the event horizon; these expectation values are non-perturbative in , and decay exponentially far from the hole. We introduce an approach to enhance the angular tolerance of resonant waveguide gratings by stacking two resonant structures on top of each other. It is shown that reflectivities close to unity can be retrieved over the entire angular spectrum by a double T-shaped grating configuration. Although a combination of silicon as the high-index and diamond as the low-index material is considered, the principles of our new approach can also be used to realize monolithic silicon structures with similar properties. We illustrate that the functionality of the device can be understood by a decomposition into separated elements. Our approach might have compelling applications as new diffractive-reflective optical components with low-coating thermal noise in the field of high-precision metrology. 相似文献

Columns of metal atoms in the polytypoid compound Fe2O3(ZnO)15 could be resolved by high angle annular dark field imaging in a transmission electron microscopy (TEM)/STEM electron microscope--a result which could not be realized by high-resolution bright field imaging due to inherent strain from inversion domains and inversion domain boundaries (IDBs) in the crystals. The basal plane IDB was imaged in [11 00] yielding the spacing of the two adjacent ZnO domains, while imaging in [21 1 0] yields the position of single metal ions. The images allow the construction of the entire domain structure including the stacking sequence and positions of the oxygen ions. The IDB consists of a single layer of octahedrally co-ordinated Fe3+ ions, and the inverted ZnO domains are related by point symmetry at the iron position. The FeO6 octahedrons are compressed along the ZnO c-axis resulting in a FeO bond length of 0.208 nm which is in the range of FeO distances in iron containing oxides. The model of the basal plane boundary resembles that of the IDB in polytypoid ZnO-In2O3 compounds. 相似文献

Identification of akinetic but viable myocardium is important for the selection of patients for coronary revascularization. In order to assess predictive values of end-diastolic wall thickness and dobutamine induced wall thickening obtained by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and [18F]Fluorodeoxyglucose uptake assessed by positron emission tomography (F-18-FDG-PET), these parameters were compared to recovery of left ventricular function after successful revascularization. Forty patients with chronic myocardial infarction and regional a- or dyskinesia by ventriculography underwent rest- and dobutamine-MRI studies (10 microg dobutamine/kg body weight/min) and F-18-FDG-PET. Viability of the infarct region was considered to be present if; 1) end-diastolic wall thickness was > or =5.5 mm; 2) dobutamine induced wall thickening > or =2 mm could be measured; and 3) normalized F-18-FDG-uptake was > or =50% in > or =50% of akinetic segments. Preserved end-diastolic wall thickness was found in 32/40 patients, functional improvement during dobutamine infusion in 26/40 patients and preserved F-18-FDG-uptake in 29/40 patients. After revascularization regional left ventricular function improved in 25/40 patients. Positive and negative predictive values and diagnostic accuracy were 78%, 100%, and 83% for preserved end-diastolic wall thickness, 92%, 93%, and 93% for dobutamine inducible contraction reserve and 86%, 100%, and 90% for preserved F-18-FDG-uptake. Quantitative assessment of dobutamine induced systolic wall thickening by MRI and F-18-FDG-uptake by PET are highly accurate techniques for the identification of viable myocardium and prediction of functional recovery after successful revascularization. Preserved end-diastolic wall thickness results in an overestimation of viable myocardium compared to functional improvement, but wall thickness <5.5 mm excludes recovery of regional function. 相似文献

Numerical simulation of exciton dynamics in Cu(2)O at ultra-low temperatures within a potential trap
We have studied theoretically the relaxation behaviour of excitons in cuprous oxide (Cu(2)O) at ultra-low temperatures when excitons are confined within a potential trap by solving numerically the Boltzmann equation. As relaxation processes, we have included in this paper deformation potential phonon scattering, radiative and non-radiative decay and Auger decay. The relaxation kinetics has been analysed for temperatures in the range between 0.3 and 5?K. Under the action of deformation potential phonon scattering only, we find for temperatures above 0.5?K that the excitons reach local equilibrium with the lattice, i.e.?that the effective local temperature is coming down to the bath temperature, while below 0.5?K a non-thermal energy distribution remains. Interestingly, for all temperatures the global spatial distribution of excitons does not reach the equilibrium distribution, but stays at a much higher effective temperature. If we include further a finite lifetime of the excitons and the two-particle Auger decay, we find that both the local and the global effective temperature do not come down to the bath temperature. In the first case we find that a Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) occurs for all temperatures in the investigated range. Comparing our results with the thermal equilibrium case, we find that BEC occurs for a significantly higher number of excitons in the trap. This effect could be related to the higher global temperature, which requires an increased number of excitons within the trap to observe the BEC. In the case of Auger decay, we do not find a BEC at any temperature due to the local heating of the exciton gas. 相似文献
