I fondamenti della geometria numerativa

Sunto. Costruzione dei fondamenti della geometria numerativa (computo della costanti, conservazione del numero, calcolo simbolico, principio generalizzato diPlücker-Clebsch) dal punto di vista delle teorie (dovute all' Autore), che hanno fatto progredire e rinnovato tanta parte della moderna geometria algebrica (teoria della base, varietà virtuali, sistemi d'equivalenza, teoria generale delle corrispondenze). Teorema d'esistenza delle caratteristiche delle condizioni pure di data dimensione imposte agli elementi d'una varietà algebrica, anche in presenza di elementi degeneri. Applicazioni (teoria delle caratteristiche inerenti a spazi lineari, risoluzione generale del problema delle caratteristiche per le coniche d'un piano, base e modello minimo della varietà degli elementi lineari del piano) (1). Il mio primo lavoro è stato pubblicato negli ? Atti della R. Accademia delle Scienze di Torino ? (vol. XXXV, pag. 774) il 27 maggio 1900. Veramente io avevo già fatto stampare fin dal 1898 mentre ero studente presso una tipografia della mia nativa Arezzo, una noticina sull'estensione dei teoremi diPascal e diBrianchon. Non sapevo allora che l'estensione era nota.     

5-Spirocyclopropane Isoxazolidines as Versatile Intermediates in Organic Synthesis

The review outlines the various different azaheterocycles available from 5-spirocyclopropane isoxazolidines. These compounds can be regarded as versatile direct precursors of tetrahydro-, dihydropyridone and azetidinone derivatives. The current scope and limitations, and the selectivity aspects of the different processes are discussed therein.     

Isochronous systems and their quantization

We review recent results about classical isochronous systems characterized by the presence of an open (hence fully dimensional) region in their phase space in which all their solutions are completely periodic (i.e., periodic in all degrees of freedom) with the same fixed period (independent of the initial data provided they are inside the isochronicity region). We report a technique for generating such systems, whose wide applicability justifies the statement that isochronous systems are not rare. We also present an analogous technique applicable to a vast class of Hamiltonian systems and generating isochronous Hamiltonian systems. We also report some results concerning the quantized versions of such systems.     

A new microwave dielectric method for studying photoinitiated chain radical polymerization processes

Measurements of both real and imaginary parts of the dielectric constant at a fixed microwave frequency have been performed on n-butyl acrylate/poly(n-butyl acrylate) mixtures. The dielectric constant of the mixtures has been compared with that of neat n-butyl acrylate during UV photoinitiated polymerization. The values of the imaginary part of the dielectric constant thus obtained have allowed determination of the instantaneous monomer concentration and verified the kinetic equation for the photoinitiated polymerization process. The limits of validity of the method as well as its capability of providing detailed kinetic information are also discussed.     

An Introduction to Constant Curvature Spaces in the Commutative (Segre) Quaternion Geometry

It is known that complex numbers can be associated with plane Euclidean geometry and their functions are successfully used for studying extensions of Euclidean geometry, i.e., non-Euclidean geometries and surfaces differential geometry. In this paper we begin to study the constant curvature spaces associated with the geometry generated by commutative elliptic-quaternions and we show how the “mathematics” they generate allows us to introduce these spaces and obtain the geodesic equations without developing a complete mathematical apparatus as the one developed for Riemannian geometry.     

A remark on Serrin’s Theorem

An approximation theorem for families of weakly coercive convex functions by means of countably many smooth families of convex functions is proved. As a consequence, the classical “three-fold” lower semicontinuity theorem for integral functionals of the Calculus of Variations by James Serrin is unified in one single statement.     

The rotational-conformational distribution of 2,2'-bithienyl in liquid crystals

We have investigated the distribution of conformations and orientations for a simple internal rotor molecule, 2,2'-bithienyl dissolved in liquid crystal solvents, by re-analysing published proton dipolar coupling data with the maximum entropy internal order method (MEIO). We show that detailed, model independent, conformational information can be obtained when data of sufficiently high quality are available. We also propose a novel and convenient representation method for the orientational-conformational coupling.     

Global weak solutions to the Nordström-Vlasov system

The Nordström-Vlasov system is a Lorentz invariant model for a self-gravitating collisionless gas. We establish suitable a priori bounds on the solutions of this system, which together with energy estimates and the smoothing effect of “momentum averaging” yield the existence of global weak solutions to the corresponding initial value problem. In the process we improve the continuation criterion for classical solutions which was derived recently. The weak solutions are shown to preserve mass.
