We report on results of a measurement of meson production in central Pb-Au collisions at E(lab) = 158A GeV. For the first time in the history of high energy heavy-ion collisions, phi mesons were reconstructed both in the K+K- and the dilepton decay channels in the same experiment. This measurement yields rapidity densities near midrapidity, from the two decay channels, of 2.05 +/- 0.14(stat) +/- 0.25(syst) and 2.04 +/- 0.49(stat) +/- 0.32(syst), respectively. The shape of the measured transverse momentum spectrum is also in close agreement in both decay channels. The data rule out a possible enhancement of the phi yield in the leptonic over the hadronic decay channel of a factor 1.6 or larger at the 95% C.L. This rules out the discrepancy reported in the literature between measurements of the hadronic and dimuon decay channels by two different experiments.  相似文献

Infrared-visible sum-frequency spectroscopy has been used to record the vibrational spectrum of a zinc arachidate monolayer at the interface between a sapphire prism and a fused silica lens. Spectra have been recorded for the monolayer deposited on the prism before, during, and after contact, and as a function of increasing pressure. Sum-frequency spectra are reported of the monolayer under sliding contact. The monolayer is found to be resistant to pressure- and shear-induced conformational disorder. However, frequency shifts, drops in peak intensities, and changes in peak intensity ratios have been observed as the monolayer is placed in contact between the prism and the lens. Transfer of monolayer material between the two surfaces is observed and is confirmed by spectra obtained with a monolayer deposited on the surface of the lens rather than the prism. On one face of the sapphire prism, the monolayer reconstructs to a low symmetry layer, probably due to epitaxy. The epitaxial structure disappeared in contact. Existing models for calculating sum-frequency spectra have been extended to include unit cells containing two molecules and torsion about the terminal C-C bond. This model can explain some, but not all, of the experimental observations.  相似文献

We propose and analyze a 2-parameter family of 2-player games on two heaps of tokens, and present a strategy based on a class of sequences. The strategy looks easy, but it is actually hard. A class of exotic numeration systems is then used, which enables us to decide whether the family has an efficient strategy or not. We introduce yet another class of sequences and demonstrate its equivalence with the class of sequences defined for the strategy of our games.  相似文献

The transport of hot electrons in the AlxGa1−xAs barriers above the wells in a multiple quantum well (MQW) structure is investigated. The structures that are studied are asymmetric quantum well infrared detectors. The transport of the hot electrons normal to the layers is strongly dependent on both voltage and well shape. It is suggested that the key parameter which affects the transport properties is the dwell time of the electrons in the continuum, above the well region. This is most readily seen in asymmetric MQW structures, in which the dwell time under an applied bias depends very strongly on bias polarity. Calculations of electron transmission coefficient and dwell time show that the electron mean free path in asymmetric wells is much larger in positive bias than in a negative one. Employing this model, we achieve a very good fit to experimental data.  相似文献

We report on first measurements of low-mass electron-positron pairs in Pb-Au collisions at the CERN SPS beam energy of 40 AGeV. The observed pair yield integrated over the range of invariant masses 0.2e(+)e(-) annihilation with a modified rho propagator. They may be linked to chiral symmetry restoration and support the notion that the in-medium modifications of the rho are more driven by baryon density than by temperature.  相似文献
