The small quantum cohomology of a weighted projective space, a mirror D-module and their classical limits

We first describe a mirror partner (B-model) of the small quantum orbifold cohomology of weighted projective spaces (A-model) in the framework of differential equations: we attach to the A-model (resp. B-model) a quantum differential system (that is a trivial bundle equipped with a suitable flat meromorphic connection and a flat bilinear form) and we give an explicit isomorphism between these two quantum differential systems. On the A-side (resp. on the B-side), the quantum differential system alluded to is naturally produced by the small quantum cohomology (resp. a solution of the Birkhoff problem for the Brieskorn lattice of a Landau–Ginzburg model). Then we study the degenerations of these quantum differential systems and we apply our results to the construction of (classical, limit, logarithmic) Frobenius manifolds.     

Closed subgroups as Ditkin sets

We prove that every closed subgroup of a locally compact group is locally p  -Ditkin for 1<p<∞$1<p<\infty$.     

Points of Bounded Height on Equivariant Compactifications of Vector Groups, I

We prove asymptotic formulas for the number of rational points of bounded height on certain equivariant compactifications of the affine plane.     

Stability of Generalized Transition Fronts

We study the qualitative properties of the generalized transition fronts for the reaction–diffusion equations with the spatially inhomogeneous nonlinearity of the ignition type. We show that transition fronts are unique up to translation in time and are globally exponentially stable for the solutions of the Cauchy problem. The results hold for reaction rates that have arbitrary spatial variations provided that the rate is uniformly positive and bounded from above.     

Computing Finite Semigroups, I: The First Row

New precedence results are obtained for finite, not necessarily commutative semigroups, which are used to further sharpen existing algorithms for the computation of finite semigroups. The results in this first part describe the first row of the multiplication table in detail and provide a numerical profile with which it can be compared to other rows.     

Deformable two-dimensional photonic crystal slab for cavity optomechanics

We have designed photonic crystal suspended membranes with optimized optical and mechanical properties for cavity optomechanics. Such resonators sustain vibration modes in the megahertz range with quality factors of a few thousand. Thanks to a two-dimensional square lattice of holes, their reflectivity at normal incidence at 1064?nm reaches values as high as 95%. These two features, combined with the very low mass of the membrane, open the way to the use of such periodic structures as deformable end mirrors in Fabry-Perot cavities for the investigation of cavity optomechanical effects.     

The one phase free boundary problem for the -Laplacian with non-constant Bernoulli boundary condition

Our objective, here, is to generalize our earlier results on the existence of classical convex solution to a free boundary problem with a Bernoulli-type boundary gradient condition and with the -Laplacian as the governing operator. The main theorems of this paper assert that the exterior and the interior free boundary problem with a Bernoulli law, i.e. with a prescribed pressure on the ``free' streamline of the flow, have convex solutions provided the initial domains are convex. The continuous function is subject to certain convexity properties. In our earlier results we have considered the case of constant . In the lines of the proof of the main results we also prove the semi-continuity (up to the boundary) of the gradient of the -capacitary potentials in convex rings, with boundaries.

     

Stable (amino)(phosphino)carbenes: difunctional molecules

(Amino)(phosphino)carbenes are stable due to the donation of the nitrogen lone pair, the phosphino group remains strongly pyramidalized. Reactions can be performed selectively at the carbene center, but also at the phosphorus center leading to new stable carbenes. These difunctional molecules can be considered as hybrid ligands.
