Current experimental vitreous substitutes only replace the physical functions of the natural vitreous humor. Removal of the native vitreous disrupts oxygen homeostasis in the eye, causing oxidative damage to the lens that likely results in cataract formation. Neither current clinical treatments nor other experimental vitreous substitutes consider the problem of oxidative stress after vitrectomy. To address this problem, biomimetic hydrogels are prepared by free radical polymerization of poly(ethylene glycol) methacrylate and poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate. These hydrogels have similar mechanical and optical properties to the vitreous. The hydrogels are injectable through small‐gauge needles and demonstrate in vitro biocompatibility with human retinal and lens epithelial cells. The hydrogels and added vitamin C, an antioxidant, show a synergistic effect in protecting ocular cells against reactive oxygen species, which fulfills a chemical function of the natural vitreous. These hydrogels have the potential to prevent post‐vitrectomy cataract formation and reduce the cost of additional surgeries.  相似文献

A simple, rapid, and sensitive procedure using nonaqueous capillary electrophoresis (NACE) to measure Paroxetine (one of the mostly used antidepressants for mental diseases treatment) and three metabolites has been developed and validated. Optimum separation of paroxetine and metabolites was obtained on a 57 cm x 75 microm capillary using a nonaqueous buffer system of 9:1 methanol-acetonitrile containing 25 mM ammonium acetate and 1% acetic acid, with temperature and voltage of 25 degrees C and 15 kV, respectively, and hydrodynamic injection. Fluoxetine was used as an internal standard. Good results were obtained for different aspects including stability of the solutions, linearity, accuracy, and precision. Detection limits between 9.3 and 23.1 microg.L(-1) were obtained for paroxetine and its metabolites. A ruggedness test of the method was carried out using the Plackett-Burman fractional factorial model with a matrix of 15 experiments. This method has been used to determine paroxetine and its main metabolite B at clinically relevant levels in human urine. Prior to NACE determination, the samples were purified and enriched by means of an extraction-preconcentration step with a preconditioned C18 cartridge and eluting the compounds with methanol.  相似文献

We report on the first experimental observation of discrete vortex solitons in two-dimensional optically induced photonic lattices. We demonstrate strong stabilization of an optical vortex by the lattice in a self-focusing nonlinear medium and study the generation of the discrete vortices from a broad class of singular beams.  相似文献

We study experimentally the interaction of a soliton with a nonlinear lattice. We observe the formation of a novel type of composite soliton created by strong coupling of mutually incoherent periodic and localized beam components. Mass separated metal and silicon cluster ion beams M n +, ? are produced by sputtering and undergo fragmenting and/or neutralizing collisions at different kinetic energies (100–1800 eV) in Ar and SF6. Fragment patterns induced by rare gas collisions open a way to determine ionization potentials and electron affinities of clusters. These values are compared to known experimental and theoretical data. For negatively charged clusters the absorption in gas targets is mainly due to neutralization, the cross sections varying with cluster material, number of atoms and collision partner from 10 Å2 to about 50 Å2.  相似文献
