This paper presents the design and test of asymmetric quasioptical resonators for gyrotron applications, where most of the diffraction output coupling comes from the smaller of two mirrors. A computer code based on scalar diffraction theory is used to calculate the resonator losses and the electric field near the mirrors. Resonators with mirror separations approaching confocal have reduced side lobes in the diffraction patterns, which should allow for better power transmission and focusing. Cold tests have been performed at 94 and 141 GHz to measure the quality factor of the asymmetric resonators as a function of mirror separation and mirror misalignment. Typical resonator parameters include 65 cm mirror separation, 1-3% output coupling and 85% of the losses from the small mirror. A half-symmetric resonator with one flat and one curved mirror has also been investigated. The calculated values of Q are in reasonably good agreement with the cold test measurements. 相似文献

The acoustic structure of loud calls ("wahoos") recorded from free-ranging male baboons (Papio cynocephalus ursinus) in the Moremi Game Reserve, Botswana, was examined for differences between and within contexts, using calls given in response to predators (alarm wahoos), during male contests (contest wahoos), and when a male had become separated from the group (contact wahoos). Calls were recorded from adolescent, subadult, and adult males. In addition, male alarm calls were compared with those recorded from females. Despite their superficial acoustic similarity, the analysis revealed a number of significant differences between alarm, contest, and contact wahoos. Contest wahoos are given at a much higher rate, exhibit lower frequency characteristics, have a longer "hoo" duration, and a relatively louder "hoo" portion than alarm wahoos. Contact wahoos are acoustically similar to contest wahoos, but are given at a much lower rate. Both alarm and contest wahoos also exhibit significant differences among individuals. Some of the acoustic features that vary in relation to age and sex presumably reflect differences in body size, whereas others are possibly related to male stamina and endurance. The finding that calls serving markedly different functions constitute variants of the same general call type suggests that the vocal production in nonhuman primates is evolutionarily constrained. 相似文献

Hitherto it has not been possible to produce a microscopic image with adequate resolution of the high-impact two-phase system poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC)/chlorinated polyethylene (CPE) due to inadequate phase contrast. With the aid of various chemical staining methods and through ion etching, a way has been found for studying the microstructure of the PVC/CPE system by light microscopy and electron microscopy. These independent visualization techniques and scanning electron micrographs of fracture surfaces show, as the morphology with optimal mechanical and rheological properties, networklike distribution of the rubber phase and, imbedded in this, a PVC phase consisting of primary particles. 相似文献

We present an analysis of minimum bias events from proton-proton collisions at \(\sqrt s = 7GeV\) in the CERN ISR. We remove the effects of both the leading protons and compare theB=0 mesonic residue of the events to the hadronic events of similar energy produced ine + e ? collisions. This comparison is presented in terms of the standard jet-type analyses involving quantities such as sphericity and aplanarity. We find significant differences between these data and the data frome + e ? annihilations. The data of this experiment are consistent with the predictions of a longitudinal phase space model. 相似文献

Inclusive production of ?0,f, andg 0 mesons and ofK s 0 ,K *0 (892), ? andK *0(1430)mesons has been measured at <y>~2.6 and <p T >~1.1 GeV/c in proton-proton interactions at \(\sqrt s = 52.5\) GeV. The negative particle from the two-body decays of these resonances were identified by a threshold Cerenkov counter and used for triggering. Starting from the measured differential cross section, total inclusive cross sections for the vector and tensor mesons were determined using various parametrizations for they andp T dependence of the differential cross section. The experimental results are discussed in the framework of production models based on the parton picture. The strangeness suppresion factor λ=(0.30±0.10) due toSU(3) symmetry breaking of the quark sea is derived. 相似文献

Ultraviolet photoemission spectra for ethylene chemisorbed on Ag(110) and benzene on Ag(110) and Ru(001) indicate adsorption with minimal molecular distortions. A survey of the photoemission data for ethylene and benzene similarly adsorbed on transition metals indicate that the relaxation shift in the binding energy of molecular Orbitals not contributing to the chemisorption bond is essentially independent of the metal when obtained using the value of the work function when the surface is saturated with adsorbate. This observation is in agreement with a theoretical analysis where final state image charge screening is the dominant relaxation mechanism. These observations support the choice of the work function of the surface saturated with adsorbate as the approximation of the adsorption site potential. 相似文献

We measured the magnetic susceptibility of KC24 from 4.2 to 300 K and found no anomalies near the phase transitions at 95 and 123 K as observed in the resistivity. We conclude that the transitions must be due to order- disorder transitions of the K atoms and not charge density wave formation. The susceptibility is anisotropic; at room temperature and .
