Antideuteron yield at the AGS and coalescence implications

We present Experiment 864's measurement of invariant antideuteron yields in 11.5A GeV/c Au+Pt collisions. The analysis includes 250x10(6) triggers representing 14x10(9) 10% central interactions sampled for events with high mass candidates. We find (1/2pip(t))d(2)N/dydp(t) = 3.5+/-1.5(stat)+0.9-0.5(syst)x10(-8) GeV-2 c(2) for 1.8 = 0.35 GeV/c ( y(c.m.) = 1.6) and 3.7+/-2.7(stat)+1.4-1.5(syst)x10(-8) GeV-2 c(2) for 1.4 = 0.26 GeV/c, and a coalescence parameter B2; of 4.1+/-2. 9(stat)+2.3-2.4(syst)x10(-3) GeV2 c(-3). Implications for coalescence and antimatter annihilation are discussed.

Tricyclic triazolocephem and triazolopenam carboxylic acids have been synthesized, but only the former exhibited antibacterial activity.     

Direct chemolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry for analysis of paint materials

A novel direct method using (m-trifluoromethylphenyl)trimethylammonium hydroxide (TFTMAH) has been developed for on-line (trans)esterification of lipidic materials (drying oils, egg) prior to GC-MS analysis. The method was first optimised by comparing three N-methylammonium hydroxide reagents (TMAH, PhTMAH, TFTMAH) and triolein as a lipid standard. Secondly, the procedure was tested on a series of fresh and naturally aged (up to 40 years) (un)pigmented drying oils and egg yolk reference film standards. Thirdly, the method was applied to the analysis of a sample from an altar painting "Resurrection of Christ" by Francesco Solimena (1723) from the Chapel of Upper Belvedere in Vienna. The relative proportions of the fatty acids from the translucent size layer confirm the presence of partially degraded oil, probably prepolymerised walnut oil.     

Peroxycarbenium-mediated C-C bond formation: applications to the synthesis of hydroperoxides and peroxides

The Lewis acid-mediated reaction of alkene nucleophiles with peroxyacetals provides an effective route for the synthesis of homologated peroxides and hydroperoxides. In the presence of Lewis acids such as TiCl(4), SnCl(4), and trimethylsilyl triflate, peroxyacetals and peroxyketals undergo reaction with allyltrimethylsilane, silyl enol ethers, and silyl ketene acetals to afford homoallyl peroxides, 3-peroxyketones, and 3-peroxyalkanoates, respectively. Reactions of peroxyacetals are Lewis acid dependent; TiCl(4) promotes formation of ethers while SnCl(4) and trimethylsilyl triflate promote formation of peroxides. Lewis acid-promoted reactions of silylated hydroperoxyacetals furnish silylated hydroperoxides, which can be deprotected to homologated hydroperoxides. Hydroperoxyketals undergo Lewis acid-mediated allylation to furnish 1,2-dioxolanes via attack of hydroperoxide on the intermediate carbocation. Lewis acid-mediated cyclization of unsaturated peroxyacetals furnishes 1,2-dioxanes, 1,2-dioxepanes, and 1,2-dioxacanes through 6-endo/exo, 7-endo/endo, and 8-endo/endo pathways. The corresponding reactions involving 6-endo/endo and 5-endo/exo pathways were unsuccessful.
