Atactic glassy polystyrene (PS) has been irradiated in anoxic conditions by electron and ion beams. The induced modifications were followed, in situ, by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). In-film modifications and hydrocarbon gas release were followed. In-situ measurements allowed one to avoid any spurious oxidation of the films after irradiation and also permitted studying in detail the evolution with dose of the FTIR spectra. The data were quantitatively analyzed, and we present a complete analysis of the effects of the Linear Energy Transfer (LET) on the radiation chemical yields of several radiation-induced modifications (alkynes, allenes, alkenes, benzene, and disubstituted benzenes). For a better understanding of the LET effects, the in-film modifications are compared to H2 release data from the literature and to our measurements of hydrocarbon gaseous molecule yields obtained by us. The overall destruction yield becomes very significant at high LET, and the radiation sensitivity of this aromatic polymer merges with typical values of aliphatic polymers: the radiation resistance conferred at low LET to polystyrene by the phenyl side groups is lost at high LET. This loss of radiation resistance equally affects the aromatic and aliphatic moieties. Monosubstituted alkynes are created above a LET threshold, whereas the other radiation-induced modifications are observed in the whole LET range. Several observations indicate that the phenyl ring is broken at high LET. Comparison of the alkyne yield in PS, polyethylene, and polycarbonate as well as the formation of nitrile bonds in poly(vinylpyridine- co-styrene) are consistent with a cleavage of the phenyl ring as the prominent source of alkynes. As the competing damage mechanisms do not have the same LET evolution, the relative importance of a specific modification on the global damage depends on LET. Some (benzene and disubstituted benzenes) dominate at low LET, while others (in-film alkyne and acetylene release) dominate at high LET.  相似文献

The influence of the counteranion on the structure and the spin-transition properties of original 1D bis(tetrazole) Fe(II) systems, namely [Fe(btzx)(3)]X(2) (X=PF(6) (-) (1), CF(3)SO(3) (-) (2) and ClO(4) (-) (3); btzx=m-xylylenebis(tetrazole)) is studied. The X-ray crystal structures of compounds 1 and 2 are described in detail. These structures present a solvent molecule encapsulated within pockets formed by btzx ligands along the 1D coordination chains. Compound 2 is shown to be the first structurally characterised alternating HS-LS 1D spin-transition system (HS=high spin, LS=low spin). The magnetic susceptibility measurements of all three compounds are compared. The degree of completion and the transition temperature are both drastically influenced by the counterion used, while surprisingly, the cooperative nature of the transition is not affected by the choice of counterion. Compounds 1 and 2 are further studied by M?ssbauer spectroscopy and their distinct LIESST properties are compared.  相似文献

Summary A fully automated peptide synthesizer was used to generate tetrapeptide sublibraries from 24 natural and nonnatural amino acids, from which new inhibitors of gelatinases (matrix metalloproteinases MMP-2 and MMP-9) were selected as potential anticancer drugs. MMP-2 and MMP-9 from mouse Balbc/3T3 fibroblasts conditioned media were assayed in their linear range response by zymography to quantify inhibition at each step of the tetrapeptide library deconvolution. The histidine--amino caproic acid-alanine-histidine (His-Ahx-Ala-His) sequence was found to yield optimal inhibition of both MMP-2 and MMP-9. Inhibition by selected tetrapeptides was also evaluated with two other techniques, a native type IV collagen degradation assay and a fluorogenic enzymatic assay, confirming the tetrapeptide potency. The His-Ahx-Ala-His tetrapeptide also inhibited purified human MMP-2 and MMP-9 and the corresponding enzymes present in conditioned media from human tumour cells. Finally, the length of the spacer between the two terminal histidines was found to be crucial to the inhibitory potential. The detection of branched chains in thermally degraded thermoplastic polymers is far from simple, especially at a low conversion ratio, mainly because of the low sensitivity of commonly used laboratory analytical techniques. The objective of this article is to present an approach able to demonstrate the formation of such macromolecular structures during thermal degradation of molten PET at low oxygen partial pressures (typically for pressures lower than 9% of atmospheric pressure). Such ageing conditions are met during PET mechanical recycling by extrusion, and can be simply reproduced by sequential nitrogen/air tests in a rheometer cavity. The approach consists of a careful analysis of the complex shear modulus changes in a Cole–Cole diagram. Values obtained for Cole–Cole model parameter K′ indicate clearly an accumulation of branched chains in the melt with the time of residence in the reactor.  相似文献
