The relevance of metal interactions with azides has led us to the study of the complexation of some transition metals, nickel and cobalt, by azidoacetone by means of electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS). Complexes were obtained from solutions of NiCl(2) and CoCl(2) , in methanol/water. Nickel was electrosprayed with other counter ion, bromide (Br), as well as other solvent (ethanol/water). For nickel and cobalt, the complexes detected were single positively charged, with various stoichiometries, some resulted from the fragmentation of the ligand, the loss of N(2) being quite common. The most abundant species were [Ni(II)Az(2)X](+) where X = Cl, Br and Az = azidoacetone. Some of the complexes showed solvation with the solvent components. Metal reduction was observed in complexes where a radical was lost, resulting from the homolytic cleavage of a metal coordination bond. Collision-induced dissociation (CID) experiments followed by tandem mass spectrometry (MS-MS) analysis were not absolutely conclusive about the coordination site. However, terminal ions of the fragmentation routes were explained by a gas-phase mechanism proposed where a C-C bond was activated and the metal inserted subsequently. Density functional theory calculations provided structures for some complexes. In [Ni(II)Az(2)X](+) species, one azidoacetone ligand is monodentate and the dominant binding location is the alkylated nitrogen and not the carbonyl group. The other azidoacetone ligand is bidentate showing coordination through alkylated nitrogen and the carbonyl group. These are also the preferential binding sites for the most stable isomer of [Ni(II)AzX](+) species. 相似文献

Some antioxidant mechanisms displayed by several phenolic compounds relate with OH bond dissociation energy. One way for its determination, in the gas-phase, relies on acidity measurements. Gas-phase acidities were determined experimentally, applying the kinetic method, for chromanol and four dimethoxyphenols, and theoretically through quantum chemical DFT calculations for chromanol, six dimethoxyphenols and 3,4,5-trimethoxyphenol. The experimental acidity order, 2,3-dimethoxyphenol > 3,5-dimethoxyphenol > 2,6-dimethoxyphenol > 3,4-dimethoxyphenol ≈ phenol > chromanol shows good agreement with the theoretical acidity order, 2,5-dimethoxyphenol > 2,3-dimethoxyphenol > 3,4,5-trimethoxyphenol > 3,5-dimethoxyphenol ≈ 2,4-dimethoxyphenol > 2,6-dimethoxyphenol > 3,4-dimethoxyphenol > phenol > chromanol. These acidity trends were rationalized in terms of the substituent effects on the thermodynamic stabilities both of the parent phenols and the corresponding phenoxide ions. Fluoride is an essential element, indispensable for maintenance of dental health. Nevertheless, fluoride concentrations in drinking water above 1.5 mg L−1 may be detrimental to human health. Many methods have been developed for removing excessive fluoride from drinking water, adsorption seems to be an effective, environmentally friendly and economical one. Since the sorption capacity of fluoride below 2 mg L−1 on most conventional adsorbents is not satisfactory, much effort has been devoted to develop new and cost-effective fluoride adsorbents. This review reports the recent developments in the F− removal in water treatment, using chitosan derivatives and composites in order to provide useful information about the different technologies. When possibly the adsorption capacity of chitosan derivatives and composites under different experimental conditions is reported to help to compare the efficacy of the fluoride removal process. A comparison with the adsorption capacity of other low cost adsorbents is also tabled. 相似文献

Extreme value theory (EVT) focuses on modeling the tail behavior of a loss distribution using only extreme values rather than the whole data set. For a sample of 10 countries with dirty/free float regimes, we investigate whether paired currencies exhibit a pattern of asymptotic dependence. That is, whether an extremely large appreciation or depreciation in the nominal exchange rate of one country might transmit to another. In general, after controlling for volatility clustering and inertia in returns, we do not find evidence of extreme-value dependence between paired exchange rates. However, for asymptotic-independent paired returns, we find that tail dependency of exchange rates is stronger under large appreciations than under large depreciations. 相似文献

3,4‐Epoxycyclohexylmethyl 3,4‐epoxycyclohexane carboxylate (ECH) was cured with different proportions of 1,6‐dioxaspiro [4,4]nonane‐2,7‐dione (s(γ‐BL)) using lanthanum triflate as a catalyst. The shrinkage undergone during curing was monitored by means of thermomechanical analysis (TMA) in isothermal experiments. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy in attenuated‐total‐reflection mode (FTIR/ATR) was used to study the evolution of lactone, epoxide, and intermediate spiroorthoester (SOE) groups to identify the different reactions that take place during the curing process. DSC was used to study the thermal characteristics of the curing process and to assess the glass‐transition temperature (Tg) of the cured material. The dynamic mechanical properties of the cured material were determined based on the data obtained by DMTA. An increase in the proportion of s(γ‐BL) led to a decrease in the gelation time and the shrinkage after gelation. By combining the data obtained by TMA and FTIR/ATR, it was also possible to identify the reactive processes responsible for the shrinkage. It was observed that an increase in the proportion of s(γ‐BL) also increases the speed of the curing process and modifies the structure of the material, thus giving rise to more flexible materials. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. It is known that large fragments of the class of dense Minimum Constraint Satisfaction (MIN‐CSP) problems do not have polynomial time approximation schemes (PTASs) contrary to their Maximum Constraint Satisfaction analogs. In this paper we prove, somewhat surprisingly, that the minimum satisfaction of dense instances of kSAT ‐formulas, and linear equations mod 2, Ek‐LIN2, do have PTASs for any k. The MIN‐Ek‐LIN2 problems are equivalent to the k‐ary versions of the Nearest Codeword problem, the problem which is known to be exceedingly hard to approximate on general instances. The method of solution of the above problems depends on the development of a new density sampling technique for k‐uniform hypergraphs which could be of independent interest. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
