Porous anodic oxides generated on copper‐containing aluminium alloys are less regular than anodic oxides generated on pure aluminium. Specifically, a porous oxide morphology comprising layers of embryo pores, generated by a cyclic process of oxide film growth and oxygen evolution, is generally observed. In this work, the relation between the oxidation behaviour of copper during anodising and the specific porous oxide film morphology was investigated by electrochemical techniques, transmission electron microscopy and Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy (RBS). It was found that the anodising potential determines the oxidation behaviour of copper, and the latter determines the porous oxide morphology. At low voltage, relatively straight pores with continuous cell walls were obtained on Al? Cu alloys, but selective oxidation of aluminium atoms resulted in the occlusion of copper‐containing metallic nanoparticles in the anodic film. At higher potentials, copper oxidation promoted oxygen evolution within the barrier layer, and generation of a less regular film morphology. RBS, performed on Al? Cu alloy specimens, revealed a high volume fraction of copper atoms in the anodic films generated at low potentials and a reduced amount of copper atoms in the anodic oxide films generated at high potentials. A new family of experimental organic fibers (X-500) produced by the Monsanto Research Corporation has been evaluated ballistically. The development of this family of fibers made available for the first time a series of organic fibers with moduli and heac resistance more nearly comparable to inorganic fibers such as glass. Tensile analysis of three material types tested in yarn form at conventional loading rates showed physical properties ranging from typically brittle (10.1 g, den tenacity, 2.4% extension, and 550 g, den modulus) to moderately ductile (5.4 g, den tenacity, 15.4% extension, and 135 g/den modulus).

The three samples were evaluated ballistically in fabric, felt, and laminate form. The most ductile sample (Type III) showed considerable promise with a ballistic resistance significantly greater than normal for a material of such modest tensile strength. Tensile recovery tests on this Type-III material showed a large amount of permanent set compared to most commercially available yarns. It appears that this capacity for plastic flow, combined with the inherent high modulus, act in combination to provide good energy absorption.

Scanning electron micrographs of ballistic missile impact areas showed for the more brittle yarns, longitudinal splitting with little evidence of plastic deformation, or fusion of fibers around the hole produced by the missile. The more ductile yarns exhibited a combination of some longitudinal splitting with plastic deformation and fusion around the hole. This latter combination of energy absorbing mechanisms proved to more effective.  相似文献

Abstract

The purification by column chromatography of a phenol-oxidizing enzyme, mushroom tyrosinase, was investigated using solid phase adsorbents designed to have specific affinity for the enzyme. Sepharose 4B, aminophenyl-bearing porous glass, and p-aminobenzylcellulose were chemically modified to introduce phenolic, catecholic, or benzoic groups on the polymer surface. The resulting preparations were tested for their effectiveness in separating tyrosinase from an impure protein mixture. The phenolic and benzoic polymers displayed no specific affinity for tyrosinase. Aminophenyl glass, with or without an attached phenolic group, adsorbed appreciable quantities of protein nonspecif-ically, thus complicating studies of its tyrosinase affinity properties. Dopamine, a dihydroxyphenyl derivative, was bound to Sepharose and was found to be effective in retaining tyrosinase at pH 5.5; elution of the enzyme by washing at pH 8.8 resulted in its purification by a factor of 10 to 14. Enzymatic oxidation of the adsorbent limited the number of purification cycles which could be carried out on a single column.  相似文献

This paper describes a method for nickel catalyzed intramolecular C–H arylation using aryl pivalates as electrophiles. The transformation is efficient for the synthesis of diverse electronically and sterically differentiated dibenzofurans. Additionally, the method could be expanded toward the synthesis of carbazoles. Preliminary mechanistic studies of the transformation are also described.  相似文献

Plant-based foods, like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, seeds and other foodstuffs, have been deemed as heart healthy. The chemicals within these plant-based foods, i.e., phytochemicals, are credited with protecting the heart. However, the mechanistic actions of phytochemicals, which prevent clinical endpoints, such as pathological cardiac hypertrophy, are still being elucidated. We sought to characterize the overlapping and divergent mechanisms by which 18 selected phytochemicals prevent phenylephrine- and phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate-mediated cardiomyocyte enlargement. Of the tested 18 compounds, six attenuated PE- and PMA-mediated enlargement of neonatal rat ventricular myocytes. Cell viability assays showed that apigenin, baicalein, berberine hydrochloride, emodin, luteolin and quercetin dihydrate did not reduce cell size through cytotoxicity. Four of the six phytochemicals, apigenin, baicalein, berberine hydrochloride and emodin, robustly inhibited stress-induced hypertrophy and were analyzed further against intracellular signaling and genome-wide changes in mRNA expression. The four phytochemicals differentially regulated mitogen-activated protein kinases and protein kinase D. RNA-sequencing further showed divergence in gene regulation, while pathway analysis demonstrated overlap in the regulation of inflammatory pathways. Combined, this study provided a comprehensive analysis of cardioprotective phytochemicals. These data highlight two defining observations: (1) that these compounds predominantly target divergent gene pathways within cardiac myocytes and (2) that regulation of overlapping signaling and gene pathways may be of particular importance for the anti-hypertrophic actions of these phytochemicals. Despite these new findings, future works investigating rodent models of heart failure are still needed to understand the roles for these compounds in the heart.  相似文献

Target remnants withZ<3 from proton-nucleus and16O-nucleus reactions at 60 and 200 GeV/nucleon were measured in the angular range from 30° to 160° (?1.7<η<1.3) employing the Plastic Ball detector. The excitation energy of the target spectator matter in central oxygen-induced collisions is found to be high enough to allow for complete disintegration of the target nucleus into fragments withZ<3. The average longitudinal momentum transfer per proton to the target in central collisions is considerably higher in the case of16O-induced reactions (≈300 MeV/c) than in proton-induced reactions (≈130 MeV/c). The baryon rapidity distributions are roughly in agreement with one-fluid hydrodynamical calculations at 60 GeV/nucleon16O+Au but are in disagreement at 200 GeV/nucleon, indicating the higher degree of transparency at the higher bombarding energy. Both, the transverse momenta of target spectators and the entropy produced in the target fragmentation region are compared to those attained in head-on collisions of two heavy nuclei at Bevalac energies. They are found to be comparable or do even exceed the values for the participant matter at beam energies of about 1–2 GeV/nucleon.  相似文献

We investigate the decays D(0)-->pi(-)l(+)nu and D(0)-->K(-)l(+)nu, where l is e or mu, using approximately 7 fb(-1) of data collected with the CLEO III detector. We find R(0) identical with B(D(0)-->pi(-)e(+)nu)/B(D(0)-->K(-)e(+)nu)=0.082+/-0.006+/-0.005. Fits to the kinematic distributions of the data provide parameters describing the form factor of each mode. Combining the form factor results and R(0) gives |f(pi)(+)(0)|(2)|V(cd)|(2)/|f(K)(+)(0)|(2)|V(cs)|(2)=0.038(+0.006+0.005)(-0.007-0.003).  相似文献

Porous media combustion (PMC) is an active field of research with a number of potential advantages over free-flame combustors. A key contributor to these phenomena is the interphase heat exchange and heat recirculation from the products upstream to the reactants. In this paper, we present a network model that captures the conjugate heat transfer in pore-resolved 2D simulations of PMC. A series of simulations are presented with varying solid conduction and inlet velocity to isolate the role of conjugate heat transfer on the salient features of the burner, including flame stability, axial temperature profiles, and flame structure. We show that both the flame stabilization and the propagation behavior are strongly related to the conjugate heat transfer, and the flame stability regime is shifted to higher velocities as the conductivity of the solid material is increased.  相似文献
