Novel Cyanine Dyes: Synthesis,Characterization and Photosensitization‐Structure Correlation

Novel furo, thieno and pyrrolo[2,3‐b]pyrazole cyanine dyes were synthesized. The structure‐photosensitization properties correlation of the dyes were examined in 95% ethanol solution by absorption spectroscopy. The chemical structure of the starting biheterocyclic compounds and their derived cyanine dyes were confirmed by elemental analysis, IR and ¹H NMR spectroscopy.     

Bis­(ethyl­enedi­amine)copper(II) bis(O,O′‐diethyl di­thio­phosphate)

In the structure of the title compound, [Cu^II­(en)₂][(EtO)₂P(S)S]₂ (en is ethyl­ene­di­amine) or [Cu(C₂H₈N₂)₂](C₄H₁₀O₂PS₂)₂, the Cu atom lies on a center of inversion and is coordinated in a slightly distorted square coordination geometry by four N atoms from two ethyl­enedi­amine mol­ecules. The diethyl di­thio­phosphate moieties, (EtO)₂P(S)S^?, act as counter‐anions.     

Reduction of Chemical Reactions in Nitrogen and Nitrogen–Hydrogen Plasma Jets Flowing into Atmospheric Air

The large number of possible chemical reactions represents a severe burdenfor modeling of even relatively simple plasma systems. Reduced sets ofchemical reactions have been obtained for numerical simulations of nitrogenand nitrogen-hydrogen plasma jets flowing into an atmospheric airenvironment. The important or active reactions are determined based on asimplified reduction method. A reaction is considered active if it leadsto higher sensitivities than a specified cutoff sensitivity of 1%. Theactive reactions exert a significant influence on main plasma parameters,such as velocity, temperature, and species concentrations. The sensitivityanalysis for the specified systems shows that two NO reactions, known asZel'dovich reactions (N₂+ONO+N andNO+OO₂+N),⁽¹⁾ are both active in a nitrogenplasma jet. On the other hand, the latter is not active and may be omittedin a nitrogen–hydrogen plasma jet. A nitrogen–hydrogen plasmajet requires contribution of two active charge exchange reactions:N₂+N⁺N⁺ ₂+N andN+H+N+ +H, while only the former is needed in a nitrogen plasmajet. The dissociation reactions are all active in both plasma jets, exceptthe dissociation of OH.     

Reduction and reconstruction of Co3O4 nanocubes upon carbon deposition

We describe a synthetic investigation on the formation of carbon nanofibers using a preshaped free-standing metal-oxide catalyst (single-crystal cobalt oxide (Co(3)O(4)) nanocubes). In reacting with acetylene (C(2)H(2)) vapor, Co(3)O(4) nanocubes are reduced and reconstructed into metallic cobalt. The resultant metal catalyst with a 2-fold symmetry leads to a bilateral base growth for carbon nanofibers. Our findings indicate that an understanding of catalyst-assisted chemical vapor deposition (CVD) mechanisms can be acquired, when the shape, size, and crystal orientation of pristine metal catalysts are made known to the CVD process. By tracing their evolutional changes in structure and composition, the shape-designed model catalysts may offer new opportunities for mechanistic investigations on the chemical reactivity of nanoparticles, general catalyst-assisted material synthesis, and metal intercalation chemistry.

Iodide Ion-Selective Electrode and Its Application to the Determination of Organic Compounds

The mixture of silver iodide and ferrocene is used to prepare the membrane of iodide ion-selective electrode. The interference of sulfide can be reduced by the addition of cupric ion in the test solution. Ethylene glycol is determined by potentiometric titration using iodine ion-selective electrode as an indicator electrode.     

Nation-Teflon bimembrane-supported palladium catalysts for Suzuki coupling reactions

Nation-Teflon bimembrane was used as an efficient support for the preparation and application of heterogeneous palladium catalysts.The supported palladium catalysts exhibit high activity and stability in the Suzuki cross-coupling of aryl bromides with arylboronic acids to afford the corresponding biaryls in good to excellent yields,and can be readily recovered and reused several times without significant loss of activity.     

Sesquiterpenoids from the Rhizome of Ligularia virgaurea

Two novel sesquiterpene dimers, compounds 1 and 2 , were isolated from the rhizome of Ligularia virgaurea, together with the six known sesquiterpenoids 3 – 8 . Their structures were established by physico‐chemical and spectroscopic methods, especially by means of 1D‐ and 2D‐NMR as well as HR‐MS analyses. A mechanism based on a classical Diels–Alder cyclization is proposed for the formation of the dimer 1 from the precursors 8 and the quinone form of 6 (Scheme).     

Poly(N‐Bromobenzene‐1,3‐Disulfonylamide), N,N,N′,N′‐Tetrabromobenzene‐1,3‐Disulfonylamide and DABCO‐Bromine Complex: As Novel Reagents for the Oxidative Coupling of Thiols to Disulfides

An efficient method for the oxidative coupling of thiols to their corresponding disulfides by new reagents poly(N‐bromobenzene‐1,3‐disulfonylamide) PBBS , N,N,N′,N′‐tetrabromobenzene‐1,3‐disulfonylamide TBBDA and DABCO‐bromine complex is described. The reaction was applicable to a variety of thiols with high chemoselectivity.
