We study the effect of the voltage bias on the ferromagnetic phase transition in a one-dimensional itinerant electron system. The applied voltage drives the system into a nonequilibrium steady state with a nonzero electric current. The bias changes the universality class of the second order ferromagnetic transition. While the equilibrium transition belongs to the universality class of the uniaxial ferroelectric, we find the mean-field behavior near the nonequilibrium critical point. 相似文献

Two distinct isolated hydrogen defects are observed in crystalline Ge by in situ infrared absorption spectroscopy. Implantation of protons into Ge at cryogenic temperatures gives rise to two intense absorption lines at 745 and 1794 cm(-1). The lines originate from distinct defects, each of which contains one H atom located on a <111> axis. The 1794-cm(-1) line is assigned to bond center H in the positive charge state, whereas the 745-cm(-1) line is ascribed to negatively charged H located on a <111> axis close to the tetrahedral site. 相似文献

Cross sections for quasifree Compton scattering from the deuteron were measured for incident energies of E(gamma) = 236-260 MeV at the laboratory angle straight theta(gamma(')) = -135 degrees. The recoil nucleons were detected in a liquid-scintillator array situated at straight theta(N) = 20 degrees. The measured differential cross sections were used, with the calculations of Levchuk et al., to determine the polarizabilities of the bound nucleons. For the bound proton, the extracted values were consistent with the accepted value for the free proton. Combining our results for the bound neutron with those from Rose et al., we obtain 1-sigma constraints of alpha;(n) = 7.6-14.0 and beta;(n) = 1.2-7.6. 相似文献

We study the effect of random porous matrices on the ordering in nematic liquid crystals. The randomness destroys orientational long-range order and drives the liquid crystal into a glass state. We predict two glass phases, one of which possesses quasi-long-range order. In this state the correlation length is infinite and the correlation function of the order parameter obeys a power dependence on the distance. The small-angle light-scattering amplitude diverges but slower than in the bulk nematic. In the uniaxially strained porous matrices two new phases emerge. One type of strain induces an anisotropic quasi-long-range-ordered state while the other stabilizes nematic long-range order. 相似文献

We calculate the local contributions to the Shannon entropy and excess entropy and use these information theoretic measures as quantitative probes of the order arising from quenched disorder in the diluted Ising antiferromagnet on a triangular lattice. When one sublattice is sufficiently diluted, the system undergoes a temperature-driven phase transition, with the other two sublattices developing magnetizations of equal magnitude and opposite sign as the system is cooled.(1) The diluted sublattice has no net magnetization but exhibits spin glass ordering. The distribution of local entropies shows a dramatic broadening at low temperatures; this indicates that the system's total entropy is not shared equally across the lattice. The entropy contributions from some regions exhibit local reentrance, although the entropy of the system decreases monotonically as expected. The average excess entropy shows a sharp peak at the critical temperature, showing that the excess entropy is sensitive to the structural changes that occur as a result of the spin glass ordering. 相似文献

Results are reported from a search for active to sterile neutrino oscillations in the MINOS long-baseline experiment, based on the observation of neutral-current neutrino interactions, from an exposure to the NuMI neutrino beam of 7.07×10(20) protons on target. A total of 802 neutral-current event candidates is observed in the Far Detector, compared to an expected number of 754 ± 28(stat) ± 37(syst) for oscillations among three active flavors. The fraction f(s) of disappearing ν(μ) that may transition to ν(s) is found to be less than 22% at the 90% C.L. 相似文献

Measurements of neutrino oscillations using the disappearance of muon neutrinos from the Fermilab NuMI neutrino beam as observed by the two MINOS detectors are reported. New analysis methods have been applied to an enlarged data sample from an exposure of 7.25×10(20) protons on target. A fit to neutrino oscillations yields values of |Δm(2)|=(2.32(-0.08)(+0.12))×10(-3) eV(2) for the atmospheric mass splitting and sin(2)(2θ)>0.90 (90% C.L.) for the mixing angle. Pure neutrino decay and quantum decoherence hypotheses are excluded at 7 and 9 standard deviations, respectively. 相似文献
