This note is concerned with the origin of secondary flow in straight noncircular ducts. A critical examination of the analytical expressions for the secondary flow production terms is made to show that the essential requirement for secondary flow is a finite gradient of the difference in the turbulent stresses in the plane of the duct cross section in a peripheral direction. This conclusion has been reached following an investigation of the turbulent stress distributions in unidirectional pipe flow and assumes that, in general, the normal stresses only are significant in secondary flow production. A more general and realistic four-component magnetized plasma medium consisting of opposite polarity ions and nonthermal distributed positrons and electrons is considered to investigate the stable/unstable frequency regimes of modulated ion-acoustic waves (IAWs) in the D-F regions of Earth's ionosphere. A (3 + 1) -dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation, which leads to the modulation instability (MI) of IAWs, is derived. The parametric regimes for the existence of the MI, first- and second-order rogue waves, and also their basic features (viz., amplitude, width, and speed) are found to be significantly modified by the effect of physical plasma parameters and external magnetic field. It is found that the nonlinearity of the different types of electronegative plasma system depends on the positive to negative ion mass ratio. It is also shown that the presence of nonthermal distributed electrons and positrons modifies the nature of the MI of the modulated IAWs. The implication of our results for the laboratory plasma [e.g., (Ar+, F− ) electronegative plasma] and space plasma [e.g., (H+, H− ), () electronegative plasma in D-F regions of Earth's ionosphere] are briefly discussed. 相似文献

A highly efficient and visible light (λ ≥ 420 nm) responsive nanocomposite photocatalyst Co3O4/WO3 was developed by dispersing p-type semiconductor Co3O4 on the surface of n-type semiconductor WO3. The heterojunction Co3O4/WO3 demonstrated higher photocatalytic activity than WO3, Co3O4 and TiO2 nanoparticles for the complete decomposition of 2-propanol in gas phase and phenol in aqueous phase and evolution of CO2 under visible light irradiation. The highest photocatalytic efficiency of the composite Co3O4/WO3 was observed when calcined at 300 °C for 2 h with 4.91 mol% Co3O4/WO3. The enhanced photocatalytic efficiency of the heterojunction was discussed based on the unique relative energy band positions and profound absorption of visible light by the semiconductors. 相似文献

A new series of N‐heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligand precursors ( 1 and 2 ) with their [Ag(I)(NHC)2]PF6 complexes ( 3 and 4 ) and [ClAu(I)(NHC)] complexes ( 5 and 6 ) are reported. Complexes 5 and 6 were synthesized via transmetalation reaction using either 3 or 4 and AuCl(SMe2) as reactants, respectively. All the synthesized compounds were fully characterized using elemental analyses and Fourier transform infrared, 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopies. In the crystal structures of 3 , 5 and 6 , the Ag(I) and Au(I) ions are in a linear geometry. The entire structure of 3 is stabilized by significant π–π interactions, while the structures of 5 and 6 are stabilized with the presence of aurophilic interactions between the adjacent Au(I) ions as well as CH–π or π–π interactions. From photoluminescence studies, complexes 5 and 6 show dual‐emission characteristics. The higher‐energy fluorescence originates from 1XLCT mixed with 1MLCT, while the lower‐energy phosphorescence is ascribed to 3XLCT and 3MLCT with small contribution of 3ILCT, as evidenced by density functional theory (DFT) and time‐dependent DFT calculations of the modelled molecules. 相似文献

The present investigation reports one-step template-free hydrothermal synthesis of CuO tetrapods (CuO-T) and its characterization. The CuO tetrapods have been prepared in moderate condition without using any surfactant. The prepared sample was characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, UV–vis–NIR (DRS) spectroscopy and Photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. The X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectrum analysis confirm clearly the formation of a pure phase high-quality CuO with monoclinic crystal structure. X-ray peak broadening analysis was used to evaluate the average crystallite size (∼30 nm) and lattice strain by the Williamson–Hall (W–H) method. Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) result reveals that the particles are tetrapods in shape with an average length ∼50 nm. Additionally the optical properties were investigated by using UV–vis reflectance spectra with considerable blue-shift in the optical band gap (Eg = 1.45 eV) due to quantum confinement effect. A series of N‐heterocyclic carbene (NHC) precursors, 1‐methoxylethyl‐3‐allylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ( 1 ), 1‐ethyl‐3‐allylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ( 2 ), and 1‐pentyl‐3‐allylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ( 3 ) were synthesized. These salts were treated with Ag2O to afford their corresponding mononuclear Ag(I)‐NHC complexes, namely 1‐methoxylethyl‐3‐allylimidazolium silver(I) hexafluorophosphate ( 4 ), 1‐ethyl‐3‐allylimidazolium silver(I) hexafluorophosphate ( 5 ), and 1‐pentyl‐3‐allylimidazolium silver(I) hexafluorophosphate ( 6 ), respectively. These compounds were characterized by physicochemical and spectroscopy techniques. Compounds 4 and 5 were structurally characterized by single crystal X‐ray diffraction, and their stability in solution was investigated and found to be acceptable for the antibacterial studies. These new NHC precursors and their respective Ag–NHC complexes were screened for their antibacterial activities against Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 12600) and Escherichia coli (ATCC 25922). Compounds 1–3 showed no inhibition, whereas 4–6 inhibited the growth of these bacteria. The nuclease activities of the reported compounds against plasmid DNA and RNA were assessed by gel electrophoresis, and the results indicate that complexes 5 and 6 can degrade both DNA and RNA in the absence of an oxidant. 相似文献
