Herein, we report on the use of the iron pincer complex Iron‐MACHO‐BH, in the base‐free transfer hydrogenation of esters with EtOH as a hydrogen source. More than 20 substrates including aromatic and aliphatic esters and lactones were reduced affording the desired primary alcohols and diols with moderate to excellent isolated yields. It is also possible to reduce polyesters to the diols with this method, enabling a novel way of plastic recycling. Reduction of the renewable substrate methyl levulinate proceeds to form 1,4‐pentanediol directly. The yields are largely governed by the equilibrium between the alcohol and the ethyl ester.  相似文献

The absolute Raman scattering cross sections (σRS) for the 471, 217, and 153 cm−1 modes of sulfur were measured as 6.0 ± 1.2 × 10−27, 7.7 ± 1.6 × 10−27, and 1.2 ± 0.24 × 10−26 cm2 at 815, 799, and 794 nm, respectively, using a 785‐nm pump laser. The corresponding values of σRS at 1120, 1089, and 1081 nm were determined to be 1.5 ± 0.3 × 10−27, 1.2 ± 0.24 × 10−27, and 1.2 ± 0.24 × 10−27 cm2 using a 1064‐nm laser. A temperature‐controlled, small‐cavity (2.125 mm diameter) blackbody source was used to calibrate the signal output of the Raman spectrometers for these measurements. Standoff Raman detection of a 6‐mm‐thick sulfur specimen located at 1500 m from the pump laser and the Raman spectrometer was made using a 1.4‐W, CW, 785‐nm pump laser. Poly(?-caprolactone) (PCL) has many favourable attributes for tissue engineering scaffold applications. A major drawback, however, is its slow degradation rate, typically greater than 3 years. In this study PCL was melt blended with a small percentage of poly(aspartic acid-co-lactide) (PAL) and the degradation behaviour was evaluated in phosphate buffer solution (PBS) at 37 °C. The addition of PAL was found to significantly enhance the degradation profile of PCL. Subsequent degradation behaviour was investigated in terms of the polymer's mechanical properties, molecular weight (Mw), mass changes and thermal characteristics. The results indicate that the addition of PAL accelerates the degradation of PCL, with 20% mass loss recorded after just 7 months in vitro for samples containing 8 wt% PAL. The corresponding pure PCL samples exhibited no mass loss over the same time period. In vitro assessment of PCL and PCL/PAL composites in tissue culture medium in the absence of cells revealed stable pH readings with time. SEM studies of cell/biomaterial interactions demonstrated biocompatibility of C3H10T1/2 cells with PCL and PCL/PAL composites at all concentrations of PAL additive.  相似文献

Results from a series of experiments designed to measure the stiffness of low-aspect-ratio, reinforced-concrete shear walls subjected to simulated seismic inputs on a shake table are reported. The geometry of the test structures allows them to be modeled as single-degree-of-freedom systems. Forces were estimated from accelerometer measurements on masses attached to the structures. Dynamic relative-displacement measurements were obtained from groups of strain gages wired in series to act as one continuous gage. Because this method measures relative displacements, potential sources of error associated with unspecified base motion are avoided. tiffness values determined from the relative displacement measurements were compared with stiffness values determined indirectly from frequency-response functions. Measured, accelerometer data were used to calculate the frequency-response functions. The stiffness values determined from the relative-displacement measurements gave results similar to those given by mechanics-of-materials beam theory that accounts for shear deformation. The stiffness values determined from the frequency-response functions were considerably less than those from the theory.  相似文献
