O-α-nitroalkyl oximes of 1,5-disubstituted 1,1,5,5-tetranitro-pentan-3-ones

Conclusions The salts and the corresponding nitronic acids of 1,5-disubstituted 1,1,3,5,5-pentanitropentanes are converted, by the action of strong acids, to the 0--nitroalkyl oximes of 1,5-disubstituted 1,1,5,5-tetranitropentan-3-ones.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Seriya Khimicheskaya, No. 12, pp. 2737–2739, December, 1985.     

Upper limits on D0-D0 mixing and BB production from muon-nucleon scattering

In deep inelastic interactions of 200 GeV muons with a carbon target, we have found 17 events of the type μ^±N→μ^±μ^?μ^?X (“wrong-sign” dimuons). We derive upper limits of 1.2% (90% CL) on $\text{D}{}^0\text{-}\text{D}{}^0$ transitions (mixing) or, alternatively, of 9 pb (90% CL) cross section for $\text{B}\text{B}$ pair production as possible sources of such events.     

Generation of terahertz radiation during reflection of femtosecond laser pulses from a metal surface

The features of terahertz radiation generated upon oblique incidence of a femtosecond laser pulse on a metal surface are investigated theoretically. We propose a Cherenkov-type generation mechanism associated with excitation of low-frequency surface currents by a p-polarized optical field. The nonlinear surface currents and corresponding electrodynamic characteristics of low-frequency radiation are calculated analytically and by numerical simulation using the hydrodynamic model. The features of Cherenkov generation of terahertz radiation are analyzed, and techniques are proposed for increasing efficiency.     

Cluster exchange and elastic scattering of heavy ions

The effect of cluster exchange on the nuclear interaction potential is examined. Cluster exchange results in nonlocal interactions that must be added to the direct local potential of the optical model. The dependence of exchange interactions on the parity of relative motion is analyzed. Scattering amplitudes corresponding to nonlocal exchange interactions are calculated in the Born approximation for ¹⁶O + ¹²C scattering.     

Electrode potentials of electrochemical cells with oxide-conducting solid electrolyte in chemically nonequilibrium gas mixtures

A wide range of electrodes for solid oxide electrolyte cells in chemically nonequilibrium gas media simultaneously containing oxygen and combustible gases is systematically studied. The concentration dependences are investigated for the potential response of electrodes made of conducting oxides, noble metals (platinum, gold, silver), and also composite electrodes containing dispersed oxide semiconductor phases, apart from the main conducting material. Besides, dynamic characteristics of these electrodes are investigated. The studies are performed in the temperature range from 450 to 800°C. The content of combustible gases in the mixture was varied from 10 ppm to 2%. The research results are of interest for development of sensors for combustible gases and for studying kinetics and mechanisms of catalytic oxidation reactions.     

Black holes in multidimensional theory with Ricci plane internal spaces

A generalization of the solution of Tangherlini [1] to the case of internal Ricci plane spaces is obtained. It is shown that a horizon exists in the (2 + d)-dimensional section only in the trivial case where the scale factors of the internal spaces are constant.
