Speech is usually produced in an upright sitting or standing posture. Measurements and judgments of speech may be made in conditions requiring a supine position, however. These conditions include MRI recordings, and oral procedures, such as, adjustments to dental appliances, medical and surgical procedures. It is of interest, therefore, to see whether gravity has strong or systematic effects on tongue behavior. In the present study, 13 subjects repeated several words, which contained extreme consonant and vowel tongue positions, during upright and supine condition. Ultrasound imaging provided midsagittal tongue contours, in each condition, for comparison. A neck brace was used to stabilize transducer placement and the palate was used as a physiological reference to register the data sets. Results showed a significant subject effect. In supine position the tongue was more posterior than upright for seven subjects, more anterior for two subjects and varied by phoneme for four subjects. However, there was no significant phoneme effect. The direction of change and the amount of change were not directly related. Most subjects had small upright-supine differences. The largest differences, less than 3 mm on average, were in the posterior tongue.  相似文献

High resolution neutron scattering is used to study excitations in the organometallic magnet (CH3)2NH2CuCl3 (DMACuCl3). Combined with bulk magnetization and susceptibility studies, the new results imply that DMACuCl3 is a realization of the S=1/2 alternating antiferromagnetic-ferromagnetic (AFM-FM) chain. Coupled-cluster calculations indicate that the AFM and FM interactions have nearly the same strength, while analysis of scattering intensities shows evidence for interdimer spin correlations. Results are discussed in the context of recent ideas concerning quantum entanglement.  相似文献

Using a 281 pb{-1} data sample collected at the psi(3770) with the CLEO-c detector, we present the first absolute branching fraction measurement of the decay D0-->K(-)pi(+)pi(-)e(+)nu(e) at a statistical significance of about 4.0 standard deviations. We find 10 candidates consistent with the decay D0-->K(-)pi(+)pi(-)e(+)nu(e). The probability that a background fluctuation accounts for this signal is less than 4.1 x 10{-5}. We find B(D0-->K(-)pi(+)pi(-)e(+)nu(e)) = [2.8{-1.1}{+1.4}(stat)+/-0.3(syst)]x10{-4}. By restricting the invariant mass of the hadronic system to be consistent with K1(1270), we obtain the product of branching fractions B(D{0}-->K{1}{-}(1270)e{+}nu{e})xB(K1-(1270)-->K{-}pi{+}pi{-})=[2.5{-1.0}{+1.3}(stat)+/-0.2(syst)]x10{-4}. Using B(K1-(1270)-->K{-}pi{+}pi{-})=(33+/-3)%, we obtain B(D{0}-->K{1}{-}(1270)e{+}nu{e})=[7.6{-3.0}{+4.1}(stat)+/-0.6(syst)+/-0.7]x10{-4}. The last error accounts for the uncertainties in the measured K1-(1270)-->K{-}pi{+}pi{-} branching fractions.  相似文献

This paper describes the behavior of bubbles suspended in a carrier liquid and moving within microfluidic networks of different connectivities. A single-phase continuum fluid, when flowing in a network of channels, partitions itself among all possible paths connecting the inlet and outlet. The flow rates along different paths are determined by the interaction between the fluid and the global structure of the network. That is, the distribution of flows depends on the fluidic resistances of all channels of the network. The movement of bubbles of gas, or droplets of liquid, suspended in a liquid can be quite different from the movement of a single-phase liquid, especially when they have sizes slightly larger than the channels, so that the bubbles (or droplets) contribute to the fluidic resistance of a channel when they are transiting it. This paper examines bubbles in this size range; in the size range examined, the bubbles are discrete and do not divide at junctions. As a consequence, a single bubble traverses only one of the possible paths through the network, and makes a sequence of binary choices ("left" or "right") at each branching intersection it encounters. We designed networks so that, at each junction, a bubble enters the channel into which the volumetric flow rate of the carrier liquid is highest. When there is only a single bubble inside a network at a time, the path taken by the bubble is, counter-intuitively, not necessarily the shortest or the fastest connecting the inlet and outlet. When a small number of bubbles move simultaneously through a network, they interact with one another by modifying fluidic resistances and flows in a time dependent manner; such groups of bubbles show very complex behaviors. When a large number of bubbles (sufficiently large that the volume of the bubbles occupies a significant fraction of the volume of the network) flow simultaneously through a network, however, the collective behavior of bubbles-the fluxes of bubbles through different paths of the network-can resemble the distribution of flows of a single-phase fluid.  相似文献

Vanadate(V)-templated Dawson-type capsules {V(IV)M(VI)(17)(VO(4))(2)} (M = Mo, W; 1-2) have been synthesized and investigated by electrochemical methods in aqueous and organic media using spectroscopic techniques, EPR, UV-vis/NIR, IR, and CSI-MS (cryospray ionization mass spec.), and the clusters have been examined in the solid state by magnetic studies. The collision-induced dissociation (CID-MS) studies confirmed the solution structures as well as helped pinpoint the position of the vanadium ion on the {VM(17)}-type shell, which was corroborated by EPR and theoretical studies.  相似文献

A new dialkylthio benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b']dithiophene (S-BDT) was designed and synthesized and the polymer S-PBDT was prepared by a Stille coupling reaction. A high open-circuit voltage (V(oc)) of up to 0.99 V was achieved in polymer solar cells with PCBM.  相似文献

A paper spray ion source was combined with a drift tube operating at ambient pressure for mobility measurements of ions derived from pharmaceutical solutions. Paper spray ionization with solvent alone resulted in a mixture of ions convolved to a single peak with a reduced mobility of 2.19 cm2/Vs in the mobility spectrum. These were mass-identified principally as m/z 157, (MeOH)2(HCOOH)2H+ and m/z 129, (MeOH)4(H2O)H+ while pharmaceuticals with nitrogen bases formed MH+ product ions. The duration of response was governed by the volume of liquid added to the paper source and was limited by evaporation of solvent in gas at 58 °C venting the drift tube. Quantitative variation was attributed in part to morphologic changes in the tip of the paper spray source. This was associated with mass flow in the electrical discharge and not due alone to cycles of wetting and drying of the paper. Mobility spectra of chlorpromazine in urine, exhibited a single product ion peak and linear response was 30 to 500 ng with an estimated limit of detection of 1.5 ng. Ion flux could be prolonged by continuous addition of liquid and findings portend a combination of paper spray ionization IMS with paper chromatography.  相似文献

We describe a microfluidic system that uses a magnetic field to sort paramagnetic beads by deflecting them in the direction normal to the flow. In the experiments we systematically study the dependence of the beads' deflection on bead size and susceptibility, magnet strength, fluid speed and viscosity, and device geometry. We also develop a design parameter that can aid in the design of microfluidic devices for immunomagnetic multi-target sorting.  相似文献

This article contains an outline of the basic principles of low temperature nuclear orientation LTNO and of nuclear magnetic resonance on oriented nuclei NMR/ON. A summary is given of the experimental requirements and constraints of these methods followed by a survey of their applications to the study of magnetism in solids. More detailed consideration is given to relaxation topics, including fast passage and pulsed RF techniques, and to the variety of methods now available, based on nuclear orientation and resonance, for the separate extraction of magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole interaction strengths when they occur together.  相似文献
