A stability criterion for combustion of powder is obtained, taking into account the effect of the processes in the gas phase. It is shown that consideration of the effects of a nonadiabatic flame leads to the stability reserve of combustion being reduced and the natural frequency of vibrations being lowered. This study presents a method of calculation for two-dimensional, steady-state, laminar flow in the entrance region of an MHD
duct. The electrically conducting fluid in the free stream is compressible whereas the medium in the boundary layer itself
is taken to be incompressible. Thus, the density is variable in the axial direction of the duct only, and the momentum and
energy equations for the boundary layer are uncoupled. These equations are solved using an extended Von Kármán-Pohlhausen
method as described by U. P. Hwang for a compressible MHD flow with zero electric field. In this study, however, the electric
field is essentially not zero and the MHD duct can work as a generator. The equations of the insulator boundary layer are
solved in the assumption that the displacement thickness of the electrode boundary layer equals that of the insulator boundary
layer, so the total influence of the varying effective crossection on the free stream is taken into account. In this way a
quick method of calculating the MHD flow in the entrance region of a duct is obtained. 相似文献

The effect of proximity to the ground on the lifting force generated by a vertical solid jet is studied in connection with development of vertical takeoff and landing devices and of air cushion devices. Such a study was made in [1 ] for planar flow by an incompressible ideal fluid. There a generalization of the results obtained on a compressible fluid was made by the approximation method. In the present work the planar problem of streamline flow past a dihedral barrier of a gas jet emerging from a channel with parallel walls was solved by the Chaplygin-Fal'kovich method [2, 3], The results of [1, 4–9] follow as a particular case from the solution obtained. Zusammenfassung Sichtbare Aggregation der Erythrozyten in den kleinen Gefäßen (sog. körnige Strömung oder sludged blood) beruht auf zwei mitunter zusammenwirkenden Faktoren: 1. verlangsamte Strömung des Blutes oder 2. verminderte Suspensionsstabilität desselben (= gesteigerte Aggregationstendenz der Erythrozyten in der Form von Geldrollen).Die intravaskuläre Aggregation der Erythrozyten hat zwei entgegengesetzte Effekte auf die Strömung des Blutes. Einerseits bewirkt sie in den weiteren parakapillaren Gefäßen einen mehr kontrahierten Axialstrom der Erythrozyten, was den Transport derselben auf Kosten des Plasmas begünstigt und zweitens die Viskosität des Blutes vermindert.Anderseits sprechen die Versuche mit einer Methode, dieFiltrabilität der Erythrozyten zu bestimmen dafür, daß bei gesteigerter Aggregationstendenz derselben die Aggregate einen Widerstand in den engeren parakapillären Gefäßen und in den Kapillaren bewirken. This paper describes an experimental study of a partially stirred reactor (PaSR). The reactor is a cubic box in which air (either pure or mixed with a tracer) is continuously injected through 12 jets situated in two opposite planes and impinging through the center. The flow in the reactor interior is well approximated as stationary, globally homogeneous and isotropic. Global properties of turbulent flow and passive scalar mixing are studied, in terms of length scales, characteristic times, spectra, etc. Particular attention has been paid to a proper determination of the mean value of the passive scalar variance dissipation rate 〈ε

The material forces concept has become an elegant tool in continuum mechanics for the calculation of the thermodynamic driving
force of a defect. Based on this concept, we have recently shown that inhomogeneities essentially shield or anti-shield crack
tips from applied far-field stresses. The goal of this paper is to illustrate this by considering the model example of a crack
in a CT-type specimen that contains a bimaterial interface. The crack driving force is calculated as the sum of the far-field
driving force and the crack-tip shielding or anti-shielding. Several cases of inhomogeneity in either thermal or elastic properties
are considered. Rather simple hand calculations are provided in addition to numerical results to illustrate the advantages

A similarity analysis of a nonlinear wave equation in elasticity is studied; in particular, one with anharmonic corrections.
The symmetry transformation give rise to exact solutions via the method of invariants. In some cases, graphical figure of
the solutions are presented. Furthermore, we consider some cases wherein the velocities of the longitudinal and transversal
plane waves are variable. Finally, a brief discussion on how a symmetry analysis on a perturbation of the elasticity equation

An experimental study is undertaken to examine the dynamic stress–strain characteristics of ligaments from the human cervical
spine (neck). Tests were conducted using a tensile split Hopkinson bar device and the engineering strain rates imposed were
of the order of 102∼103/s. As ligaments are extremely soft and pliable, specialized test protocols applicable to Hopkinson bar testing were developed
to facilitate acquisition of reliable and accurate data. Seven primary ligaments types from the cervical spines of three male
cadavers were subjected to mechanical tests. These yielded dynamic stress–strain curves which could be approximated by empirical
equations. The dynamic failure stress/load, failure stain/deformation, modulus/stiffness, as well as energy absorption capacity,
were obtained for the various ligaments and classified according to their location, the strain rate imposed and the cadaveric
source. Compared with static responses, the overall average dynamic stress–strain behavior foreach type of ligament exhibited

This paper reports the effects of surface roughness on the mean flow characteristics for a turbulent plane wall jet created in an open channel. The velocity measurements were obtained using a laser Doppler anemometer over smooth and transitionally rough surfaces. The power law proposed by George et al. (2000) was used to determine the friction velocity. Both conventional scaling and the momentum–viscosity scaling proposed by Narasimha et al. (1973) were used to analyze the streamwise evolution of the flow. The results show that surface roughness increases the skin friction coefficient and the inner layer thickness, but the jet half-width is nearly independent of surface roughness. 相似文献

By means of a tripping wire turbulent spots are generated in a conditionally stable laminar boundary layer along a flat plate in a low-turbulence windtunnel. At several vertical and lateral positions the streamwise (U) and vertical (V) velocity components of the spot are measured using anX-shaped hot wire anemometer. The spot's leading edge (LE) and trailing edge (TE) are determined by a high frequency detection criterion.The derived ensemble averaged shear stress uv shows a remarkable plateau over the last 3/4 of the spot length and over about 1/2 of the spot width, approximately independent of the height above the plate. The measurements suggest that the velocities of the LE and the TE can be explained by simple advection of the active turbulent region. Other mechanisms seem to be responsible for the lateral spread of the spot, as is suggested by the measurements outside the plane of symmetry. 相似文献
