Spectrophotometric study of bismuth with N-(2-acetamido)iminodiacetic acid (ADA): Determination of bismuth in pharmaceutical formulations

A new method for the Spectrophotometric determination of bismuth using N-(2-acetamido)iminodiacetic acid as complexometric agent is proposed. The complex is formed in a wide pH range, 5.5–7.5, and has a maximum absorption at 265 nm. Beer's law is obeyed in the interval 3.8–17.9 μg of bismuth(III)/ml, with a minimum photometric error of 2.3. The molar absorptivity is 9.1 × 10³ liters/cm mol. The stoichiometry of the reaction takes place in the metal-to-ligand ratio 1:2. The interferences produced by the more common ions are studied. The method has been successfully applied to the determination of bismuth in pharmaceutical formulations.

The GdPS structure,a new PbFCl-type derivative

The structure of GdPS is orthorhombic, space group Pmnb; a = 5.3620(5), b = 5.4079(6), c = 16.742(2)Å, Z = 8. It is a distorted derivative of the tetragonal PbFCl structure (a₀, c₀) with $\text{a ≈ b ≈ 2}{}^{\mathrm{<mtext>1</mtext><mtext>2</mtext>}}\text{a}{}_0\text{, c = 2c}{}_0$. The distortions are due to the formation of phosphorus chains. This structure type is found also in other rare-earth sulfopolyphosphides, e.g., with Ln = La···Sm, Tb···Tm, Y.     

Polyselenide mit langkettigen Tetraalkylammoniumionen Die Kristallstruktur von Trimethyl-tetradecyl-ammonium-hexaselenid

Polyselenides with Long-chain Tetraalkylammonium Ions. Crystal Structure of Trimethyltetradecyl-ammonium Hexaselenide Na₂Se₂ and Na₂Se react with various tetraalkylammonium halides in ethanol and in presence of grey selenium and catalytic quantities of iodine forming different polyselenides Se_n^2? (n = 3, 5—9). In the solutions equilibria of polyselenides seem to occur; cooling of saturated solutions causes crystallization of polyselenides with a composition depending on the cation. Tri- and pentaselenide are dark green. The higher members form black crystals, all compounds are sensitive to oxygen. The i.r. spectra are reported. [(CH₃)₃N(CH₂)₁₃CH₃]₂Se₆ is characterized by a crystallographic structure determination with X-ray data: space group P2₁2₁2, Z = 4, a = 5043, b = 734.2, c = 600.3 pm (986 observed independent reflexions. R = 0.072). The compound consists of trimethyl tetradecylammonium ions and angular Se₆^2? chains of symmetry C₂ with Se? Se bond lengths of 227 and 235 pm.     

Synthesis and three-dimensional structures of geometrical isomers of some 4-substitute d 1,2,5-trimethyl-4-acetoxy- and 1,2,5-trimethyl-4-benzoxypiperidines

Stereoisomers of the corresponding 4-substituted 1,2,5-trimethyl-4-acetoxy- and 1,2,5-trimethyl-4-benzoxypiperidines were obtained by acylation of the geometrical isomers of 1,2, 5-trimethyl-4-piperidol and its 4-ethynyl, 4-ethyl, and 4-phenyl-substituted derivatives. The preferred conformations of the investigated esters were elucidated by means of the PMR and IR spectra.Translated from Khimiya Geterotsiklicheskikh Soedinenii, No.1, pp. 50–55, January, 1973.     

Studies on pyrazoles

The possibility of the separation into optical antipodes of racemic amino acids of the pyrazole series has been investigated. The trans configuration of the acrylic acids obtained as by-products in the synthesis of -amino acids of the pyrazole series by the Rodionov reaction has been shown by PMR and IR spectroscopy.
