Nonlinear statics of extensible elastic belt on two pulleys

The drive belt set on two pulleys is considered as a plane elastic rod. The nonlinear theory of rods with tension is used. The static frictionless contact problem for the rod is formulated. The derived boundary value problem for the nonlinear ordinary differential equations is solved by the finite difference method and by the shooting method by means of computer mathematics. The belt shape and the stresses are determined. The contact reaction and the contact area are obtained in the solution. A benchmark study of extensible and inextensible models is performed. Synthesis of 2-aryl(hetaryl)-1-hydroxyimidazoles by the reaction of aliphatic 1,2-hydroxylamino oximes with aromatic and heteroaromatic aldehydes

A reaction of aliphatic 1,2-hydroxylamino oximes bearing the hydroxylamino group at the secondary carbon atom with aromatic and heteroaromatic aldehydes in acetic acid leads to the corresponding 1-hydroxy-2-aryl(hetaryl)-4,5-dialkylimidazoles in high yields. α-Aryl(hetaryl)-nitrones initially formed by the condensation of 1,2-hydroxylamino oximes with aldehydes are quantitatively converted to the corresponding imidazoles.     

Online resource for theoretical study of hydration of biopolymers

An online resource has been developed for the theoretical study of hydration of biopolymers by the RISM (Reference Interaction Site Model) method, deriving from the integral equation theory of liquids. The online resource is based upon original software developed by the authors and includes all steps in studying a biopolymer with a given spatial structure and force field. It prepares the input data and carries out the RISM calculation yielding the atom-atom correlation functions of the biopolymer with water as solvent. From these functions the algorithm finds atomic partial contributions to the hydration free energy using various free energy expressions from integral equation theory. The calculated results are automatically recorded in a database, and become available on the website as tables of partial thermodynamic quantities. In addition, the website displays an interactive 3D model of a given molecule, the atoms of which can be painted in different colors in accordance with their partial contributions to the thermodynamic quantity chosen by the user. The user can interactively choose atoms on this molecule and their correlation functions will be displayed. The aim of our work was to develop and present a publicly-accessible resource on the basis of original software which could be used for scientific and educational purposes.

Multiarm Star-Shaped Polydimethylsiloxanes with a Dendritic Branching Center

New multiarm stars have been synthesized based on polylithium derivatives of high-generation carbosilane dendrimers. In the synthesis of multiarm stars based on the eighth-generation dendrimer, steric hindrances were observed even during the synthesis of a polylithium initiator. Subsequently, this led to chain transfer reactions between growing arms, as well as other side effects. As a result, dense nanogel formations with a higher tendency of ordering than in classical objects of this type were isolated from the reaction mixture. The study of the rheology of multiarm stars based on sixth-generation dendrimers made it possible to determine the activation energies of viscous flow in these objects, which makes it possible to consider them as objects with a macromolecular nature and a reptation flow mechanism.     

Mono- and Diamination of 4,6-Dichloropyrimidine, 2,6-Dichloropyrazine and 1,3-Dichloroisoquinoline with Adamantane-Containing Amines

N-heteroaryl substituted adamantane-containing amines are of substantial interest for their perspective antiviral and psychotherapeutic activities. Chlorine atom at alpha-position of N-heterocycles has been substituted by the amino group using convenient nucleophilic substitution reactions with a series of adamantylalkylamines. The prototropic equilibrium in these compounds was studied using NMR spectroscopy. The introduction of the second amino substituent in 4-amino-6-chloropyrimidine, 2-amino-chloropyrazine, and 1-amino-3-chloroisoquinoline was achieved using Pd(0) catalysis.     

Novel Tdp1 Inhibitors Based on Adamantane Connected with Monoterpene Moieties via Heterocyclic Fragments

Tyrosyl-DNA phosphodiesterase 1 (Tdp1) is a promising target for anticancer therapy due to its ability to counter the effects topoisomerase 1 (Top1) poison, such as topotecan, thus, decreasing their efficacy. Compounds containing adamantane and monoterpenoid residues connected via 1,2,4-triazole or 1,3,4-thiadiazole linkers were synthesized and tested against Tdp1. All the derivatives exhibited inhibition at low micromolar or nanomolar concentrations with the most potent inhibitors having IC₅₀ values in the 0.35–0.57 µM range. The cytotoxicity was determined in the HeLa, HCT-116 and SW837 cancer cell lines; moderate CC₅₀ (µM) values were seen from the mid-teens to no effect at 100 µM. Furthermore, citral derivative 20c, α-pinene-derived compounds 20f, 20g and 25c, and the citronellic acid derivative 25b were found to have a sensitizing effect in conjunction with topotecan in the HeLa cervical cancer and colon adenocarcinoma HCT-116 cell lines. The ligands are predicted to bind in the catalytic pocket of Tdp1 and have favorable physicochemical properties for further development as a potential adjunct therapy with Top1 poisons.     

Impedance-matched hyperlens

We propose an approach to optical imaging beyond the diffraction limit, based on transformation optics in concentric circular cylinder domains. The resulting systems allow image magnification and minimize reflection losses due to the impedance matching at the input or output boundaries. While perfect impedance matching at both surfaces can be obtained only in a system with radius-dependent magnetic permeability, we demonstrate that comparable performance can be achieved in an optimized nonmagnetic design.
