A unique series of dinuclear transition metal-polyradical complexes with a m-phenylenediamine spacer and their catalytic reactivity

A series of dinuclear transition metal complexes with either six or four iminosemiquinone radicals, in which the metal centres are separated by a distance of approximately 6.8 A, together with their catalytic reactivity is reported.     

Dioxygen activation by an osmium-dihydride: preparation and characterization of a d4 square-planar complex

Exposure of OsH2Cl2(PiPr3)2 to air or bubbling with pure O2 affords the dioxo-Os(VI) compound OsO2Cl2(PiPr3)2 as result of a direct O=O double bond activation reaction. This Os(VI) species is reduced in the presence of n-BuLi to the novel dioxo-Os(IV) derivative OsO2(PiPr3)2, a rare example of a d4 square-planar compound.     

A continuous parametric shape model

In this paper we propose a flexible continuous parametric shape model for star-shaped planar objects. The model is based on a polar Fourier expansion of the normalized radius-vector function. The expected phase amplitudes are modelled by a simple regression with parameters having nice geometric interpretations. The suggestedgeneralized p-order model is an extension of first- and second-order Gaussian shape models, and in particular the Gaussian assumption is relaxed. The statistical analysis is straightforward, as demonstrated by an application concerning shape discrimination of two cell nuclei populations.

Preparation and characterization of titania based nanowires

A new method for preparation of titania nanowires with diameter around 10 nm and length up to 2–3 μm is described. The precursor was prepared from sodium titanate by adding ethylene glycole (EG) and heating at temperature of 198°C for 6 h under reflux. The sodium titanate glycolate formed by this way aggregated into 1D nanostructures and was subsequently transformed into titania glycolate during a chemical treatment with 98% sulfuric acid. Titania nanowires with variable amount of anatase and rutile were prepared by heating to temperatures in the range 350–1000°C. The precursor as well as titania based samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, Infrared spectroscopy, Scanning electron microscopy, High resolution transmission microscopy, Thermogravimetry, Differential thermal analysis, Evolved gas analysis and Emanation thermal analysis. The nitrogen adsorption/desorption was used for surface area and porosity determination. The photoactivity of the prepared titania samples was assessed by the photocatalytic decomposition of 4-chlorophenol in an aqueous slurry under UV irradiation of 365 nm wavelength.     

On the role of heterogeneous and imperfect information in a laboratory financial market

In this paper, we analyze the behavior of a group of heterogeneously informed investors in an laboratory asset market. Our experimental setting is inspired by Huber et al. (On the benefit of information in markets with heterogeneously informed traders: an experimental study, 2004). However, instead of their system of cumulative and exogenously given information structure, we introduce an information market where the traders can buy an imperfect prediction of the future value of the dividend with a maximum anticipation of four periods. The accuracy of the prediction decreases with the chosen time horizon, whereas its price remains constant. Our results confirm a non-strictly monotonic increasing value of the information.     

High-spin- and low-spin-state structures of [Fe(chloroethyltetrazole)6](ClO4)2 from synchrotron powder diffraction data

The spin-crossover complex [Fe(teec)(6)](ClO(4))(2) (teec = chloroethyltetrazole) exhibits a 50 % incomplete spin crossover in the temperature range 300-30 K. Time-resolved synchrotron powder diffraction experiments have been carried out to elucidate its structural behavior. We report crystal structure models of this material at 300 K (high spin) and 90 K (low spin), as solved from synchrotron powder diffraction data by using Genetic Algorithm and Parallel Tempering techniques and refined with Rietveld refinement. During short synchrotron powder diffraction experiments (five minutes duration) two distinguishable lattices were observed the quantities of which vary with temperature. The implication of this phenomenon, that is interpreted as a structural phase transition associated with the high-to-low spin crossover, and the structural characteristics of the high-spin and low-spin models are discussed in relation to other compounds showing a similar type of spin-crossover behavior.     

Second Harmonic Power Generation from GaAs-Impatt Diodes at 210 GHz

Investigations of GaAs-IMPATT diodes as self-pumped frequency doublers are carried out both, theoretically and experimentally. Optimization criterions are specified and first experimental results are presented. 1 mW output power has been achieved in the harmonic mode at 210 GHz.
