Transition Metal-Catalyzed C−H Activation/Annulation Approaches to Isoindolo[2,1-b]isoquinolin-5(7H)-ones

The isoindolo[2,1-b]isoquinolin-5(7H)-one scaffold is widely present in lots of bioactive natural products. Diverse types of strategies have been developed to construct this scaffold. Recently, transition metal-catalyzed C−H activation/annulation is emerging as a powerful and straightforward method to construct diverse polyheterocycles with high atom- and step-economy. It also has been employed for the synthesis of the isoindolo[2,1-b]isoquinolin-5(7H)-one scaffold. This review provides an introduction to recent advances for the preparation of isoindolo[2,1-b]isoquinolin-5(7H)-ones by using transition metal-catalyzed C−H activation/annulation. It will help researchers to find hidden opportunities and accelerate the discovery of novel transformations based on C−H activation/annulation.     

Rotational coherence imaging and control for CN molecules through time-frequency resolved coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering

Numerical wave packet simulations are performed for studying coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) for CN radicals. Electronic coherence is created by femtosecond laser pulses between the X(2)Σ and B(2)Σ states. Due to the large energy separation of vibrational states, the wave packets are superpositions of rotational states only. This allows for a specially detailed inspection of the second- and third-order coherences by a two-dimensional imaging approach. We present the time-frequency domain images to illustrate the intra- and intermolecular interferences, and discuss the procedure to rationally control and experimentally detect the interferograms in solid Xe environment.     

Uncertainty from sampling in measurements of aflatoxins in animal feedingstuffs: application of the Eurachem/CITAC guidelines

The duplicate method for estimating uncertainty from measurement including sampling is presented in the Eurachem/CITAC guide. The applicability of this method as a tool for verifying sampling plans for mycotoxins was assessed in three case studies with aflatoxin B(1) in animal feedingstuffs. Aspects considered included strategies for obtaining samples from contaminated lots, assumptions about distributions, approaches for statistical analysis, log(10)-transformation of test data and applicability of uncertainty estimates. The results showed that when duplicate aggregate samples are formed by interpenetrating sampling, repeated measurements from a lot can be assumed to approximately follow a normal or lognormal distribution. Due to the large variation in toxin concentration between sampling targets and sometimes very large uncertainty arising from sampling and sample preparation (U(rel) ≥ 50%), estimation of uncertainty from log(10)-transformed data was found to be a more generally applicable approach than application of robust ANOVA.
