Development of a chiral non-aqueous capillary electrophoretic system using the partial filling technique with UV and mass spectrometric detection

A chiral non-aqueous CE system with UV and mass spectrometric detection has been developed. The enantioseparation was promoted by diastereomeric complex (ion-pair) formation between the amines (e.g. salbutamol, atenolol) and the chiral selector, (-)-2,3:4,6-di-O-isopropylidene-2-keto-L-gulonic acid [(-)-DIKGA]. Different solvent mixtures were studied, as well as different concentrations of (-)-DIKGA and ammonium acetate in the background electrolyte. A partial filling technique was developed with a selector plug composed of (-)-DIKGA and ammonium acetate in a solvent mixture of methanol and 2-propanol. The separated enantiomers of pronethalol were detected by a Q-TOF MS system equipped with a sheath-flow electrospray ionization interface.     

Structural studies of the chemical constituents of Tithonia tagetiflora Desv. (Asteraceae)

Tithonia tagetiflora Desv. (Asteraceae) is a widespread plant in Vietnam, and the species of Tithonia are known as plants containing many biologically active compounds. However, T. tagetiflora's chemical composition remains mostly unknown. Therefore, we now report the structural elucidation of two new sesquiterpene lactones, 8‐angeloyloxy‐2,14‐epoxygermacra‐4,10(1),11(13)‐trien‐6,12‐olide (1) and 6‐angeloyloxy‐1‐hydroxy‐3,4‐epoxygermacra‐9,11(13)‐dien‐8,12‐olide (2), together with three known compounds, including two norisoprenoids, (6S,9S)‐vomifoliol or (6R,9R)‐vomifoliol (3) and (6S,9S)‐roseoside (4), and one glutinane type triterpene, epi‐glutinol (5), from the leaves of T. tagetiflora. Novel electroactive poly(arylene ether sulfone) copolymers containing pendant oligoaniline groups: Synthesis and properties

We present a series of novel poly(arylene ether sulfone) copolymers containing pendant oligoaniline groups. A novel monomer containing oligoaniline, 2,6‐difluorobenzoyl aniline tetramer (DFAT), was synthesized by reaction of 2,6‐difluorobenzoyl chloride and parent aniline tetramer and incorporated into the aforementioned copolymers via direct copolymerization with 4,4′‐dichlorodiphenyl sulfone (DCDPS), and 4,4′‐isopropylidene diphenol (BPA) using N,N′‐dimethylacetamide as solvent. The structures of these copolymers were confirmed by FTIR, ¹H NMR, and GPC. Spectral analysis of the copolymers in different oxidation states was investigated via UV‐visible spectra. The copolymers exhibited outstanding thermal stability and good solubility in various organic solvents. Their electroactivity, explored with cyclic voltammetry, was found to increase as the content of oligoaniline in the polymer increased. The electric and dielectric properties of the copolymers were also studied in detail. The electrochromic performance of the copolymers was investigated by electrochromic photographs and transmittance spectra; the color of the copolymer thin films changes from grey (at 0.0 V), to green (at 0.4 V), to blue (at 0.6 V) and to pearl blue (at 1.0 V) and the maximum transmittance change (ΔT) at 700 nm is 42.6% (90.7% ? 48.1%). © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Weak amenability of CAT(0)-cubical groups

We prove that if G is a discrete group that admits a metrically proper action on a finite-dimensional CAT(0) cube complex X, then G is weakly amenable. We do this by constructing uniformly bounded Hilbert space representations π _z for which the quantities z ^{ℓ (g)} are matrix coefficients. Here ℓ is a length function on G obtained from the combinatorial distance function on the complex X.     

On p-adic classification

A p-adic modification of the split-LBG classification method is presented in which first clusterings and then cluster centers are computed which locally minimize an energy function. The outcome for a fixed dataset is independent of the prime number p with finitely many exceptions. The methods are applied to the construction of p-adic classifiers in the context of learning.     

Dirac operators and spectral triples for some fractal sets built on curves

We construct spectral triples and, in particular, Dirac operators, for the algebra of continuous functions on certain compact metric spaces. The triples are countable sums of triples where each summand is based on a curve in the space. Several fractals, like a finitely summable infinite tree and the Sierpinski gasket, fit naturally within our framework. In these cases, we show that our spectral triples do describe the geodesic distance and the Minkowski dimension as well as, more generally, the complex fractal dimensions of the space. Furthermore, in the case of the Sierpinski gasket, the associated Dixmier-type trace coincides with the normalized Hausdorff measure of dimension log3/log2.     

On the metric properties of the Feigenbaum attractor

The two standard literature definitions of the function associated with the Feigenbaum attractor are not equivalent. The method due to Vulet al. and Feigenbaum is used to calculate the Haussdorff dimension of the Feigenbaum attractor, using as input the trajectory scaling functions. The two calculations yield the same Hausdorff dimensionD=0.5380451435 to within the accuracy of the computation.
