Ultra-high-field clinical MRI scanners (e.g., 7 T and above) are becoming increasingly prevalent and can potentially enhance diagnostic ability through higher contrast, resolution and/or sensitivity. Diffusion-weighted MRI is a highly valued component in today's radiological exam and may benefit from the enhanced signal-to-noise ratio provided by high field with the appropriate imaging strategy. The most common diffusion pulse sequence readout (echo-planar imaging (EPI)) has been widely employed for in vivo human 7 T diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). In this article, we present results of brain DTI at 7 T with two diffusion-weighted imaging pulse sequence readouts: echo-planar imaging (EPI-DTI) and turbo spin echo (TSE-DTI). Results indicate that analogous coverage, quality and resolution typical of lower field (2 mm) can be obtained by properly processed EPI-DTI at 7 T, and, with some reduction in efficiency and sharpness, TSE-DTI at 7 T. Furthermore, 7 T TSE-DTI shows promise in obtaining higher-resolution results in targeted acquisitions of specific brain areas.  相似文献

The atomic force microscopy (AFM) was used to study the grain boundary (GB) groove profiles far away from the melting temperature T m. It is shown that AFM allows one to measure the temperature dependence of the GB energy in a rather broad temperature interval (from 0.85 T m to T m). The GB energy and GB segregation of Bi were measured at 1123 K in the interval of the Bi bulk concentration x v Bi from 5 to 140 ppm Bi. The transition from monolayer to multilayer adsorption is observed for the 19a GB at 1123 K and x v Bi = 60 at. ppm Bi. At the same point (1123 K and x v Bi = 60 at. ppm Bi) a discontinuity of the first derivative of the GB energy is observed. These features were explained using the model of GB prewetting phase transformation developed previously.  相似文献

Stimulus-frequency (SF) otoacoustic emission (OAE) amplitude and the amplitude of medial olivocochlear (MOC) inhibition of SF OAEs for ipsilateral, contralateral and bilateral MOC reflex elicitors were recorded in six subjects with type 2 diabetes during a glucose tolerance test (GTT). Five of the six subjects were tested twice for a total of 11 trials and three subjects were tested in a control experiment. During the GTT experiment, the subjects' blood glucose was elevated from a euglycemic level below 150 mg/dL to a hyperglycemic level above 160 mg/dL following the consumption of a bolus of 80 g of sugar. A subset of three subjects were tested in a control experiment during which SF OAE and MOC reflex measurements were made while blood sugar levels remained constant within the euglycemic region. Mean SF OAE amplitudes were elevated following glucose consumption. A statistically significant increase in MOC inhibition amplitude was observed during elevated sugar levels for the 11 GTT trials. Maximum inhibition occurred about an hour after glucose consumption when blood glucose levels peaked. Results indicate that acute hyperglycemia influences efferent control of the cochlea in people with type 2 diabetes.  相似文献

We derive universal relations for the rf spectroscopy of a two-dimensional Fermi gas consisting of two spin states interacting through an S-wave scattering length. The rf transition rate has a high-frequency tail that is proportional to the contact and displays logarithmic scaling violations, decreasing asymptotically like 1/(ω2ln2ω). Its coefficient is proportional to ln2'(a'(2D)/a(2D)), where a(2D) and a'(2D) are the two-dimensional scattering lengths associated with initial-state and final-state interactions. The clock shift is proportional to the contact and to ln(a'(2D)/a(2D)). If |ln(a'(2D)/a(2D))| > 1, the clock shift arises as a cancellation between much larger contributions proportional to ln2(a'(2D)/a(2D)) from bound-bound and bound-free rf transitions.  相似文献

Imaging systems that combine a phase mask in the pupil and digital postprocessing may have better performance than conventional ones. We have built such a system to enhance the depth of field of an uncooled thermal camera. The phase masks are binary, their structures are optimized thanks to an image quality criterion, and they have been realized with three different technologies that give equivalent results. The deconvolution postprocessing is performed in real time with a graphics processing unit. A significant increase of the depth of field of a factor 3 has been obtained.  相似文献

The extended boundary condition method, also called the null-field method, provides a semianalytic solution to the problem of electromagnetic scattering by a particle by constructing a transition matrix (T-matrix) that links the scattered field to the incident field. This approach requires the computation of specific integrals over the particle surface, which are typically evaluated numerically. We introduce here a new set of simplified expressions for these integrals in the commonly studied case of axisymmetric particles. Simplifications are obtained using the differentiation properties of the radial functions (spherical Bessel) and angular functions (associated Legendre functions) and integrations by parts. The resulting simplified expressions not only lead to faster computations, but also reduce the risks of loss of precision and provide a simpler framework for further analytical work.  相似文献

Superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO) nanoparticles are increasingly being used to noninvasively track cells, target specific molecules and monitor gene expression in vivo. Contrast changes that are subtle relative to intrinsic sources of contrast present a significant detection challenge. Here, we describe a postprocessing algorithm, called Phase map cross-correlation Detection and Quantification (PDQ), with the purpose of automating identification and quantification of localized accumulations of SPIO agents. The method is designed to sacrifice little flexibility - it works on previously acquired data and allows the use of conventional high-SNR pulse sequences with no extra scan time. We first investigated the theoretical detection limits of PDQ using a simulated dipole field. This method was then applied to three-dimensional (3D) MRI data sets of agarose gel containing isolated dipoles and ex vivo transplanted allogenic rat hearts infiltrated by numerous iron-oxide-labeled macrophages as a result of organ rejection. A simulated dipole field showed this method to be robust in very low signal-to-noise ratio images. Analysis of agarose gel and allogenic rat heart shows that this method can automatically identify and count dipoles while visualizing their biodistribution in 3D renderings. In the heart, this information was used to calculate a quantitative index that may indicate its degree of cellular infiltration.  相似文献

A narrow-linewidth mid-IR source based on difference-frequency generation of an amplified 1.5 microm diode laser and a cw Tm-doped fiber laser in orientation-patterned (OP) GaAs has been developed and evaluated for spectroscopic applications. The source can be tuned to any frequency in the 7.6-8.2 microm range with an output power of 0.5 mW. The measured characteristics of the OP-GaAs sample demonstrate a high quality of the material.  相似文献

The objective of the study is to determine the efficacy of voice therapy in the treatment of age-related dysphonia. The study was conducted using a retrospective case-control chart review. The medical records of 54 patients older than 60 years diagnosed with age-related dysphonia without complicating diagnoses were reviewed. Patients who chose to undergo voice therapy were grouped as cases. Patients who chose not to undergo voice therapy were grouped as controls. The voice-related quality of life (VRQOL) measure was used to measure outcomes before and after treatment in cases and at a minimum 2-month follow-up in controls. Of the 54 patients, 19 (10 female, 9 male; mean age 73 years) chose to undergo voice therapy and filled in >1 VRQOL questionnaire. Six patients (3 female, 3 male; mean age 66 years) chose not to undergo voice therapy and filled in >1 VRQOL questionnaire. The 19 cases experienced a mean improvement in VRQOL score of 19.21 (2-tailed matched pairs t test P=0.00038) after a mean of 4.1 voice therapy sessions and 5.1 months. The six controls experienced a mean change in VRQOL score of 0.42 (2-tailed matched pairs t test P=0.96) after a mean of 3.3 months. Voice therapy leads to statistically significant improvement in the VRQOL life in elderly patients with age-related dysphonia. It is an efficacious noninvasive therapy for this disease.  相似文献

Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) noninvasively depicts white matter connectivity in regions where the Gaussian model of diffusion is valid but yields inaccurate results in those where diffusion has a more complex distribution, such as fiber crossings. q-ball imaging (QBI) overcomes this limitation of DTI by more fully characterizing the angular dependence of intravoxel diffusion with larger numbers of diffusion-encoding directional measurements at higher diffusion-weighting factors (b values). However, the former technique results in longer acquisition times and the latter technique results in a lower signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). In this project, we developed specialized 7-T acquisition methods utilizing novel radiofrequency pulses, eight-channel parallel imaging EPI and high-order shimming with a phase-sensitive multichannel B0 field map reconstruction. These methods were applied in initial healthy adult volunteer studies, which demonstrated the feasibility of performing 7-T QBI. Preliminary comparisons of 3 T with 7 T within supratentorial crossing white matter tracts documented a 79.5% SNR increase for b=3000 s/mm2 (P=.0001) and a 38.6% SNR increase for b=6000 s/mm2 (P=.015). With spherical harmonic reconstruction of the q-ball orientation distribution function at b=3000 s/mm2, 7-T QBI allowed for accurate visualization of crossing fiber tracts with fewer diffusion-encoding acquisitions as compared with 3-T QBI. The improvement of 7-T QBI at b factors as high as 6000 s/mm2 resulted in better angular resolution as compared with 3-T QBI for depicting fibers crossing at shallow angles. Although the increased susceptibility effects at 7 T caused problematic distortions near brain-air interfaces at the skull base and posterior fossa, these initial 7-T QBI studies demonstrated excellent quality in much of the supratentorial brain, with significant improvements as compared with 3-T acquisitions in the same individuals.  相似文献
