Peculiarities of the nitration of secondary polynitroalkanes

Conclusions In the interaction of salts of 1,1,1,3,5,5,5-heptanitro- or 1,5-difluoro-1,1,3,5,5-pentanitropentanes with nitrating systems based on HNO₃, 1,1,1,3,3,5,5,5-octanitro- or 1,5-difluoro-1,1,3,3,5,5-hexanitropentanes, 1,1,1,5,5,5-hexanitro- or 1,5-difluoro-1,1,5,5-tetranitropentan-3-ones, the O-bis-(2,2,2-trinitroethyl)nitromethyl ether of bis(2,2,2-trinitroethyl)carboxime or the O-bis(2-fluoro-2,2-dinitroethyl)nitromethyl ether of bis(2-fluoro-2,2-dinitroethyl)carboxime are formed. The ratio of the reaction products depends on the composition of the nitrating system. Polynitro-substitutedN-alkylalkaneimidoyl chlorides

The reaction of -fluorosubstituted polynitroalkylaldimines with HCl results in replacement of the fluorine atom by a chlorine atom. The effect of nanosized titania-silica film composition on the photostability of adsorbed methylene blue dye

The effect of nanosized porous films (average density 10 g/m²) of TiO₂. TiO₂/SiO₂, and SiO₂ on the photostability of adsorbed methylene blue (MB) dye during UV irradiation in air was investigated by optical spectroscopy and laser-induced mass spectrometry. The effectiveness of the photodecomposition of MB decreases in the order TiO₂ > TiO₂/SiO₂ > SiO₂ with rate constants 1E-2, 0.6E-2, and 0.3E-2 min⁻¹ respectively. A mechanism including the participation of both excited states of the dye molecules and photoexcited titanium dioxide is proposed for the photodecolorization of MB adsorbed on the surface of the investigated films. __________ Translated from Teoreticheskaya i éksperimental’naya Khimiya, Vol. 43, No. 4, pp. 220–225, July–August, 2007.     

Exciplex photonics on aerosil surface

A photochemical model reaction between anthracene and N,N-diethylaniline on aerosil has been studied. It is found that the nature of the surface is responsible for the mechanism of intermolecular interaction (dynamic or static one).

Antiferromagnetic complexes involving metal---metal bonds III. Synthesis, structure and magnetic properties of heterotrinuclear complexes of the type M(CO)5L (M = Cr, Mo and w) containing [(C5H5CrSCMe3)2S] as unusual antiferromagnetic ligand L

Isostructural heterotrinuclear complexes (C₅H₅CrSCMe₃)₂S · M(CO)₅ (II–IV) were isolated from photochemical reactions between the antiferromagnetic complex (C₅H₅CrSCMe₃)₂S (I) (with the Cr---Cr bond 2.689 Å long and with the exchange parameter −2J = 430 cm⁻¹) and metal hexacarbonyls, M(CO)₆, where M is Cr, Mo, or W. According to the X-ray structural data on III and IV, complex I plays the role of an unusual antiferromagnetic ligand L bound to M through the sulphide bridge (M–S 2.58(2) Å). Its geometry remains practically unaffected by the complex formation (the Cr---Cr bond length in III and IV is 2.73(1) Å). The exchange parameter, −2J (410, 440 and 440 cm⁻¹ in II to IV, respectively), also shifts only insignificantly from that of I, which probably means that indirect exchange via the sulphide bridge in I is of minor importance compared with the direct Cr---Cr exchange. The Cr---Cr bond length may thus be correlated with the observed overall exchange coupling.
