Synthesis of platinum-mercury clusters and the molecular structure of Pt4(HgBr)2(μ-CO)4(PPh3)4

New platinum-mercury clusters, Pt₄(HgX)₂(μ-CO)₄(PR₃)₄ (X=Cl, Br, I, CF₃, or CCl₃; R=Ph or Et), were synthesized. The molecular and crystal structure of the Pt₄(HgBr)₂(μ-CO)₄(PPh₃)₄ cluster was established by X-ray structural analysis.

Nitration of pentaerythritol by HNO3-H2SO4-H2O system

Synthesis and fluorination of nitro-substituted thionocarbonates

Thiocarbonylchloride reacts with -nitroalcohols yielding symmetrical thionocarbonates. Transesterification of bis(2-fluoro-2,2-dinitroethyl)thioncarbonate affords alkyl 2-fluoro-2,2-dinitroethylthionocarbonates. Thermal Transformations of Cubane Derivatives

The thermal degradation of the cubane moiety in 1,4-cubanedicarboxylic acid, its dimethyl ester, and 1,4-dibromocubane in a condensed state were studied by calorimetry. The kinetic parameters and the composition of products, as determined by ¹H and ¹³C NMR spectroscopy, are consistent with a biradical reaction mechanism. The presence of carboxyl groups capable of resonance conjugation stabilizes a biradical and increases the rate of isomerization of the acid and ester by a factor of 20, as compared with that of cubane. Bromine as a substituent has almost no effect on the rate of cubane thermolysis. The primary biradical is rapidly isomerized to corresponding cyclooctatetraene derivatives. A detailed reaction scheme is presented, and the relative rates of individual steps of the process are considered.     

Interparticle diffusion of aromatic hydrocarbons on aerosil surface

It has been demonstrated by the photobleaching method that the photostability of pyrene molecules on the surface of pyrogenic nonporous SiO₂ (aerosil) is independent of the surface concentration of the fluophor. Through a kinetic analysis of the recovery of fluorescence of the luminophore and solution of the two-dimensional diffusion equation, coefficients of interparticle diffusion were estimated for the molecules of pyrene and N,N-dimethylaniline.
