We investigate the effect of time-dependent noise on the shape of a morphogen gradient in a developing embryo. Perturbation theory is used to calculate the deviations from deterministic behavior in a simple reaction-diffusion model of robust gradient formation, and the results are confirmed by numerical simulation. It is shown that such deviations can disrupt robustness for sufficiently high noise levels, and the implications of these findings for more complex models of gradient-shaping pathways are discussed. 相似文献

A procedure has been developed in previous papers for constructing exact solutions of the equations of linear elasticity in a thick plate of inhomogeneous isotropic linearly elastic material in which the elastic moduli depend in any specified manner on a coordinate normal to the plane of the plate. The essential idea is that any solution of the classical thin plate or classical laminate theory equations (which are two-dimensional theories) generates, by straightforward substitutions, a solution of the three-dimensional elasticity equations for the homogeneous material. Recently this theory has been formulated in terms of functions of a complex variable. It was shown that the displacement and stress fields in the inhomogeneous material could be expressed in terms of four complex potentials that are analytic functions of the complex variable ζ = x + iy in the mid-plane of the plate. However, the analysis performed so far applies only to the case of a plate with traction-free upper and lower faces. A novel conductive anionic hydrogel was synthesized for use as a solid electrolyte for electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) characterization of the barrier properties of protective coatings on outdoor metalworks, such as bronze sculptures. The AMPS‐co‐PAA hydrogel was soaked in a variety of aqueous salt solutions and characterized by swelling capacity and conductivity in order to determine the most appropriate gel/liquid electrolyte combination for use on culturally significant objects. K2PIPES‐equilibrated hydrogels were selected as the preferred electrodes for this particular application and were used to measure the impedance of a coated substrate, yielding spectra similar to those from standard liquid cells. 相似文献

A dense-phase latex rubber tube and a polyporous propylene hollow-fiber membrane module (HFMM) were investigated for control
of benzene-contaminated gas streams. The abiotic mass flux observed through the latex tube was 3.9–13 mg/(min·m2) for 150 ppm of benzene at various gas and liquid flow rates, while a 100-fold lower mass flux was observed in the HFMM.
After seeding with an aromatic-degrading culture enriched from activated sludge, the observed removal was 80% of 150 ppm,
corresponding toa mass flux of 45 mg/(min·m2). The observed mass flux through the HFMM during biofiltration also rose, to 0.4 mg/(min·m2). Because the HFMM had a 50-fold higher surface area than the latex tube, the observed ben zene removal was 99.8%. Compared

Wave enhanced runaway generation is expected to play an important role in the conversion of plasma current into runaway current during major disruptions. The fast electrons created by electron cyclotron heating (ECH) were used to study this issue in KSTAR. It is found that the fast electrons driven by ECH can enhance runaway production in the flat top phase with high loop voltage. The runaway current in disruptions was not enhanced by the ECH produced fast electron population due to the strong magnetic fluctuations which inhibited the generation of runaway electrons.
