The multivalent carbohydrate-carbohydrate interaction between membrane-anchored epitopes derived from the marine sponge Microciona prolifera has been explored by colloidal probe microscopy. An in situ coupling of sulfated and non-sulfated disaccharides to membrane-coated surfaces was employed to mimic native cell-cell contacts.The dynamic strength of the homomeric self-association was measured as a function of calcium ions and loading rate. A deterministic model was used to estimate the basic energy landscape and number of participating bonds in the contact zone.  相似文献

Supramolecular nanoaggregates formed through the association of amphiphilic sulfonatomethylated calix[4]resorcinarenes with different substituents on the lower rim (methyl, pentyl, heptyl) and number of aromatic, aliphatic, and cationic guests differing in their shapes and sizes were investigated in aqueous solution by various NMR techniques ((1)H, 2D NOESY, FT-PGSE). It was shown that slight variations of the alkyl chain length on the lower rim of calixresorcinarenes dramatically change their aggregation behavior. Unlike the other calixresorcinarenes studied, the "head-to-tail" packing mode is observed for calixresorcinarene with pentyl moieties on the lower rim, which is unusual for amphiphilic calixarene aggregates. This calixresorcinarene demonstrates the stronger binding capacity toward the guest molecules due to their encapsulation into the capsule-like aggregate subunits. The guest-host complexation modifies the properties of both components, with the size of the resulted colloid particles being controlled by the guest nature.  相似文献

Synthetic ionophore calix[4]resorcinarene was incorporated into the poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) plasticized membrane of an ion-selective electrode (ISE). Calixarene interactions with quaternary ammonium and alkaline metals cations in the organic and water-organic media were carefully investigated by various authors. We studied the effects of choline and Na+ cations present in the working solution on the ionophore which was incorporated into a membrane phase. Due to the pH sensitivity of the ionophore, a study was undertaken in a wide range of pH values. The different characteristics of calix[4]resorcinarene interactions with these cations were discovered by the ISE with the PVC plasticized membrane containing this ionophore, which respond to both the choline and Na+ cations due to the variation of working solution pH.  相似文献

This paper presents firm evidence for the chemical alteration of chrome yellow pigments in Van Gogh’s Sunflowers (Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam). Noninvasive in situ spectroscopic analysis at several spots on the painting, combined with synchrotron‐radiation‐based X‐ray investigations of two microsamples, revealed the presence of different types of chrome yellow used by Van Gogh, including the lightfast PbCrO4 and the sulfur‐rich PbCr1?xSxO4 (x≈0.5) variety that is known for its high propensity to undergo photoinduced reduction. The products of this degradation process, i.e., CrIII compounds, were found at the interface between the paint and the varnish. Selected locations of the painting with the highest risk of color modification by chemical deterioration of chrome yellow are identified, thus calling for careful monitoring in the future.  相似文献

In this paper, we report on attempts to use differential scanning calorimetric measurements of aged Li electrodes for the study of the kinetics of the growth of surface films on the active metal. Standard, commonly used alkyl carbonate solutions such as ethylene and di-methyl carbonates with LiPF6 were explored. Heating Li samples in solutions after aging by DSC, resulted in well-resolved curves of reaction heats vs temperature. Exothermic reactions occurring at temperatures below 150 degrees C could be attributed to changes related to the surface films and their heat evolved, increased as a function of storage time, and hence these heats represent the thickness of the surface films that grow upon storage. Scanning electron microscopy of the Li surfaces as a function of storage and heating to different temperatures confirmed that the thermal reactions of Li surfaces in these solutions up to 150 degrees C relate to the surface films only. XPS studies revealed that these processes of the surface films change the metastable organic Li salts to more stable inorganic compounds such as LiF and Li2O. Massive red-ox reactions, between the salt anion and the solvents and between the solution species and the active metal, occur at temperatures higher than 150 degrees C. The kinetics of growth of the surface films on Li show an inverse logarithmic behavior, expected for thin surface films with which the rate-limiting step of their growth depends on ions transport across the film.  相似文献

Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) studies have shown dysfunction in key areas associated with the thalamocortical circuit in patients with schizophrenia. This study examined the functional connectivity involving the frontal-thalamic circuitry during a spatial focusing-of-attention task in 18 unmedicated patients with schizophrenia and 38 healthy controls. Functional connectivity was analyzed by assigning seed regions (in the thalamic nuclei (mediodorsal nucleus (MDN), pulvinar, anterior nucleus (AN)), the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (Brodmann areas 9 and 46), and the caudate), and correlating their respective activity with that in the non-seed regions voxel-wise. Functional connectivity analysis demonstrated that functional connectivity was significantly impaired in patients, e.g., between the right pulvinar and regions such as the prefrontal and temporal cortices and the cerebellum. On the other hand, enhanced functional connectivity was found in patients e.g., between the AN and regions such as the prefrontal and temporal cortices. In addition, the patients had significantly lower task performance and less (but non-significant) brain activation than those of controls. These results revealed disturbed functional integration in schizophrenia, and suggested that the functional connectivity abnormalities in the thalamocortical circuitry, especially the frontal-thalamic circuitry, may underlie the attention deficits in schizophrenia patients. Further, this study suggested that functional connectivity analysis might be more sensitive than brain activation analysis in detecting the functional abnormalities in schizophrenia.  相似文献

The calculation of conserved charges of black holes is a rich problem, for which many methods are known. Until recently, there was some controversy on the proper definition of conserved charges in asymptotically anti-de Sitter (AdS) spaces in arbitrary dimensions. This paper provides a systematic and explicit Hamiltonian derivation of the energy and the angular momenta of both asymptotically flat and asymptotically AdS spacetimes in any dimension D  ≥  4. This requires as a first step a precise determination of the asymptotic conditions of the metric and of its conjugate momentum. These conditions happen to be achieved in ellipsoidal coordinates adapted to the rotating solutions. The asymptotic symmetry algebra is found to be isomorphic either to the Poincaré algebra or to the so(D − 1,2) algebra, as expected. In the asymptotically flat case, the boundary conditions involve a generalization of the parity conditions, introduced by Regge and Teitelboim, which are necessary to make the angular momenta finite. The charges are explicitly computed for Kerr and Kerr–AdS black holes for arbitrary D and they are shown to be in agreement with thermodynamical arguments.
