The characteristic exponent α of a Lévy-stable law S

(σ, β, μ) was thoroughly studied as the extreme value index of a heavy tailed distribution. For 1 < α < 2, Peng (Statist. Probab. Lett. 52: 255–264, 2001) has proposed, via the extreme value approach, an asymptotically normal estimator for the location parameter μ. In this paper, we derive by the same approach, an estimator for the scale parameter σ and we discuss its limiting behavior.

Nanostructures formed during the reduction of ionic selenium in the selenite-ascorbate redox system in an aqueous solution of bovine serum albumin (BSA) were studied using static and dynamic light scattering and flow birefringence. It was established that this process results in the formation of stable aggregates of selenium nanoparticles that adsorb BSA molecules. It was found that highly-ordered superhigh-molecular-weight spherical nanostructures with high density and unique morphology are formed. Experiments with a cell culture of promyelocytic leukemia HL-60 showed that BSA adsorbed on selenium nanoparticles can inhibit the growth of tumor cells and deactivate free radicals with an efficiency comparable with that of sodium selenite. 相似文献

On a periodic planar graph whose edge weights satisfy a certain simple geometric condition, the discrete Laplacian and Dirac
operators have the property that their determinants and inverses only depend on the local geometry of the graph. We obtain
explicit expressions for the logarithms of the (normalized) determinants, as well as the inverses of these operators. We relate
the logarithm of the determinants to the volume plus mean curvature of an associated hyperbolic ideal polyhedron. In the associated
dimer and spanning tree models, for which the determinants of the Dirac operator and the Laplacian respectively play the role
of the partition function, this allows us to compute the entropy and correlations in terms of the local geometry. In addition,
we define a continuous family of special discrete holomorphic functions which, via convolutions, gives a general process for
constructing discrete holomorphic functions and discrete harmonic functions on critical planar graphs.

This paper proposes a model for the parametric representation of linguistic hedges in Zadeh’s fuzzy logic. In this model each linguistic truth-value, which is generated from a primary term of the linguistic truth variable, is identified by a real number r depending on the primary term. It is shown that the model yields a method of efficiently computing linguistic truth expressions accompanied with a rich algebraic structure of the linguistic truth domain, namely De Morgan algebra. Recently, the theory of sortability of partition property has been shown to be an effective tool to prove the existence of an optimal partition with that property. In this paper, we extend the theory to multi-partition where the partition is on t types of components. Motivated by Mandelbrot's [The Fractal Geometry of Nature, Freeman, San Francisco, 1983] idea of referring to lacunarity of Cantor sets in terms of departure from translation invariance, we study the properties of these translation sets and show how they can be used for a classification purpose. This first paper of a series of two will be devoted to set up the fundamental properties of Hausdorff measures of those intersection sets. Using the triadic expansion of the shifting number, we determine the fractal structure of intersection of triadic Cantor sets with their translates. We found that the Hausdorff measure of these sets forms a discrete spectrum whose non-zero values come only from those shifting numbers with a finite triadic expansion. We characterize this set of shifting numbers by giving a partition expression of it and the steps of its construction from a fundamental root set. Finally, we prove that intersection of Cantor sets with their translates verify a measure-conservation law with scales. The second paper will take advantage of the properties exposed here in order to utilize them in a classification context. Mainly, it will deal with the use of the discrete spectrum of measures to distinguish two Cantor-like sets of the same fractal dimension. 相似文献
