We propose a method to probe the nonlocality of a pair of Majorana bound states by crossed Andreev reflection, which is the injection of an electron into one bound state followed by the emission of a hole by the other (equivalent to the splitting of a Cooper pair). We find that, at sufficiently low excitation energies, this nonlocal scattering process dominates over local Andreev reflection involving a single bound state. As a consequence, the low-temperature and low-frequency fluctuations deltaI(i) of currents into the two bound states i=1, 2 are maximally correlated: deltaI_1deltaI_2[over ]=deltaI_i(2).[over ]. 相似文献

Zirconia microspheres synthesized by a wet‐chemical sol–gel process are promising building blocks for various photonic applications considered for heat management and energy systems, including highly efficient reflective thermal barrier coatings and absorbers/emitters used in thermophotovoltaic systems. As previously shown, pure zirconia microparticles deteriorate at working temperatures of ≥1000 °C. While the addition of yttrium as a dopant has been shown to improve their phase stability, pronounced grain growth at temperatures of ≥1000 °C compromises the photonic structure of the assembled microspheres. Here, a new approach for the fabrication of highly stable ceramic microparticles by doping with lanthanum, gadolinium, and a combination of those with yttrium is introduced. The morphological changes of the particles are monitored by scanning electron microscopy, ex situ X‐ray diffraction (XRD), and in situ high‐energy XRD as a function of dopant concentration up to 1500 °C. While the addition of lanthanum or gadolinium has a strong grain growth attenuating effect, it alone is insufficient to avoid a destructive tetragonal‐to‐monoclinic phase transformation occurring after heating to >850 °C. However, combining lanthanum or gadolinium with yttrium leads to particles with both efficient phase stabilization and attenuated grain growth. We discuss the top-secret Manhattan Project site established at the Bonebrake Theological Seminary in 1943 in Dayton, Ohio, where research on polonium and its production was carried out. The polonium produced there was then transported to Los Alamos to be used in a polonium–beryllium neutron source whose purpose was to ignite the plutonium implosion bomb that would be dropped on Nagasaki, Japan, on August 9, 1945. The combination of fluorescence microscopy and electron microscopy promises a deeper insight into the ultrastructural features of cell organelles, e.g., after drug administration. Both methods complement each other and provide, as a correlative approach, a keen insight into the fate of nanoparticles within the cell. Moreover, it represents a promising tool to determine alterations of the cellular environment as a response to particle uptake. However, the availability of suitable correlative markers is mandatory for such correlative approaches. In this contribution, the utilization of poly(ethylene imine) based metal–polymer hybrid particles labeled with small gold nanoparticles and Rhodamine B facilitating the observation of the particles by means of fluorescence as well as by transmission electron microscopy is suggested. We obtained a long-time-storage mechanism for spectral features in thulium ions doped into YAG by applying a magnetic field that splits the electronic ground state. We show experimentally that the storage time can be more than 30 s, which is 3 orders of magnitude longer than that of the metastable state that normally is used for information storage in this material. Level splitting and storage lifetimes for various magnetic field strengths of as much as 5 T were investigated. This storage mechanism will be relevant in the many coherent transient-based signal-processing schemes in which Tm:YAG is being used, and we demonstrate long-time storage in a basic data storage application. 相似文献

Anaphylaxis is a potentially life-threatening condition triggered mainly by the release of inflammatory mediators, notably histamine. In pharmaceutical research, drug discovery, and clinical evaluation, it may be necessary to accurately assess the potential of a compound, event, or disorder to promote the release of histamine. In contrast to the measurement of plasma histamine, determination of the stable metabolite 1-methyl-4-imidazoleacetic acid (tele-MIAA) in urine provides a noninvasive and more reliable methodology to monitor histamine release. This study presents a repeatable high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to electrospray mass spectrometry (LC–ESI–MS) method where tele-MIAA is baseline separated from its structural isomer 1-methyl-5-imidazoleacetic acid (pi-MIAA) and an unknown in human urine. The ion-pairing chromatography method, in reversed-phase mode, based on 0.5 mM tridecafluoroheptanoic acid demonstrated high repeatability and was applied in a clinical development program that comprised a large number of clinical samples from different cohorts. The inter- and intra-run precision of the method for tele-MIAA were 8.4 and 4.3 %, respectively, at the mean urinary concentration level, while method accuracy was between ?16.2 and 8.0 % across the linear concentration range of 22–1,111 ng mL?1. Overall, method precision was greater than that reported in previously published methods and enabled the identification of gender differences that were independent of age or demography. The median concentration measured in female subjects was 3.0 μmol mmol?1 of creatinine, and for male subjects, it was 2.1 μmol mmol?1 of creatinine. The results demonstrate that the method provides unprecedented accuracy, precision, and practicality for the measurement of tele-MIAA in large clinical settings. Figure

In this work we report the first cycloaddition reactions between a diazido diborane(4) and terminal alkynes, providing unique access to bis-1,2,3-triazoles connected by a B−B bridge. The catalyst-free reactions are highly selective, yielding exclusively the thermodynamically disfavored bis-1,4-triazoles. The reactions are enabled by the high thermal stability of the diazido-diborane [B(hpp)(N3)]2 (hpp=1,3,4,6,7,8-hexahydro-2H-pyrimido[1,2-α]pyrimidinate). Due to the tetra-coordinate boron atoms in this reagent, the reactions are tolerant with respect to the introduction of Lewis-basic groups at the alkyne. The new minigastrin analog DOTA-MGS8 targeting the cholecystokinin-2 receptor (CCK2R) used in this study displays the combination of two site-specific modifications within the C-terminal receptor binding sequence together with an additional N-terminal amino acid substitution preventing fast metabolic degradation. Within this study, the preparation of 68Ga-labeled DOTA-MGS8 was validated using an automated synthesis module, describing the specifications and analytical methods for quality control for possible clinical use. In addition, preclinical studies were carried out to characterize the targeting potential. [68Ga]Ga-DOTA-MGS8 showed a high receptor-specific cell internalization into AR42J rat pancreatic cells (~40%) with physiological expression of rat CCK2R as well as A431-CCK2R cells transfected to stably express human CCK2R (~47%). A favorable biodistribution profile was observed in BALB/c nude mice xenografted with A431-CCK2R cells and mock-transfected A431 cells as control. The high tumor uptake of ~27% IA/g together with low background activity and limited uptake in non-target tissue confirms the potential for high-sensitivity positron emission tomography of stabilized MG analogs in patients with MTC and other CCK2R-related malignancies. 相似文献

The objective was to ascertain whether MRI and image processing can be used to quantify atherosclerosis by measuring wall thickness in rabbit aorta. The abdominal aortas of 2 healthy and 5 atherosclerotic rabbits were examined with a gradient-echo inflow angiography sequence (2DI) and a proton density weighted turbo-spin-echo sequence (PDW). Using thresholding by four observers and 3D morphology operators, segmentation of the artery and vein lumina was performed from the 2DI sequence, and of surrounding fat and muscle from the PDW sequence. Remaining voxels adjacent to the aortic lumen were classified as vessel wall. By measuring the vessel wall volume and the lumen volume, the wall percentage was calculated. The values were significantly higher for the diseased animals than for unaffected individuals (p < 0.01). It is concluded that aortic wall thickening in atherosclerotic rabbits can be measured quantitatively by using MRI combined with 3D morphology image processing operators. 相似文献
