We study bulk and edge correlations in the compressible half-filled state, using a modified version of the plasma analogy. The corresponding plasma has anomalously weak screening properties, and as a consequence we find that the correlations along the edge do not decay algebraically as in the Laughlin (incompressible) case, while the bulk correlations decay in the same way. The results suggest that due to the strong coupling between charged modes on the edge and the neutral fermions in the bulk, reflected by the weak screening in the plasma analogue, the (attractive) correlation hole is not well defined on the edge. Hence, the system there can be modeled as a free Fermi gas of electrons. We finally comment on a possible scenario, in which the Laughlin-like dynamical edge correlations may nevertheless be realized.  相似文献

We present upper and lower bounds for the number of iterations performed by the Iterative Closest Point (ICP) algorithm. This algorithm has been proposed by Besl and McKay as a successful heuristic for matching of point sets in d-space under translation, but so far it seems not to have been rigorously analyzed. We consider two standard measures of resemblance that the algorithm attempts to optimize: The RMS (root mean squared distance) and the (one-sided) Hausdorff distance. We show that in both cases the number of iterations performed by the algorithm is polynomial in the number of input points. In particular, this bound is quadratic in the one-dimensional problem, under the RMS measure, for which we present a lower bound construction of Ω(nlogn) iterations, where n is the overall size of the input. Under the Hausdorff measure, this bound is only O(n) for input point sets whose spread is polynomial in n, and this is tight in the worst case.We also present several structural geometric properties of the algorithm under both measures. For the RMS measure, we show that at each iteration of the algorithm the cost function monotonically and strictly decreases along the vector Δt of the relative translation. As a result, we conclude that the polygonal path π, obtained by concatenating all the relative translations that are computed during the execution of the algorithm, does not intersect itself. In particular, in the one-dimensional problem all the relative translations of the ICP algorithm are in the same (left or right) direction. For the Hausdorff measure, some of these properties continue to hold (such as monotonicity in one dimension), whereas others do not.  相似文献

Using mutually modulated cross-gain modulation, Stokes optical frequency changes are converted into modulation phase changes with high sensitivity. In the slow-light transition regime, we demonstrate kilohertz sensitivity to the Stokes optical carrier frequency. The sensitivity is inversely proportional to the modulation frequency of the pump and Stokes beams.  相似文献

The nanometer sized particles of PbI2 were embedded in SiO2 films. X-ray diffraction and the TEM pictures showed the preservation of the bulk layered structure and symmetry. The PL spectrum of the nano-particles exhibited a pronounced blue shift of the exciton band due to quantum size effect. The Lead Iodide represents an exceptionally small exciton Bohr radius (aB = 19 Å) and a special case in which me mh. The prepared samples contained particles with mean radii, a, in the range aB < a < 3aB. Within this limit (with me mh), the experimental results suggest that the electron is localized nearly at the center of the particle, enabling the hole to move around it. Thus, the size confinement permits the creation of an acceptor-like exciton. The PL spectrum revealed additional states, associated with stoichiometric defects either at the interior or surface sites of the nano-particles. These defects act either as donor or acceptor states. The dynamics of the various recombination processes has been investigated by measuring the time resolved PL spectra. The results show a multiexponential behavior of the various recombination emission bands, indicating the occurrence of trapping and detrapping processes. Analysis of these results suggests that the existence of surface states give rise to these complex radiative decay processes. The correlation between donor-acceptor recombination emission bands in the aforementioned samples and lattice imperfections was examined, utilizing optically detected magnetic resonance (ODMR) spectroscopy. The results identified the following imperfection sites: an acceptor site associated with an isotropic Lead vacancy defect, [V]pb2+ and a donor site, associated with an anisotropic Iodine vacancy, [V0]Iodine.  相似文献

High Reynolds number viscous transonic flow is described based on an interaction of the potential outer flow with the boundary layer and wake. Following the procedure of Lighthill (1958), the solutions in these domains are matched to each other through boundary conditions. The solution to the complete problem is obtained iteratively through successive computations of the flows in the outer and inner domains. Both old and new algorithms are used for the iteration process and subsequent problem solution. Results are given for all the airfoils from the Experimental Data Base for Computer Program Assessment (AGARD-AR-138, 1979). A comparison of these results with experimental data shows the degree of agreement between these unbounded airfoil flow simulations and real transonic flow over the central part of a straight wing.  相似文献

A spray‐based technique, originally developed for the production of semiconductor nanocrystals, is utilized for the preparation of high‐quality nanocrystalline thin films, as demonstrated with manganese sulfide. The films are formed by the use of pneumatic‐assisted thermospray or pneumatic nebulizers. Our simple, low‐cost, and low‐temperature process results in a dense and phase‐pure grain structure. The concepts and benefits of this technique are described and discussed. The film characteristics show dependence on the experimental parameters, in particular the rate of solvent vaporization. Three alternative film formation mechanisms are suggested for cases with varied experimental conditions.  相似文献

A procedure is developed for the experimental determination of the nonlinear shear behavior of fiber-reinforced composites by testing angle-ply laminates. It is shown that, for the E glass/epoxy used in this work, the popular ±45 deg specimens fail prematurely due to transverse stresses, thus limiting the range for which the shear stress-strain curve can be obtained. By selecting an appropriate fiber orientation, ±41 deg in the present work, premature failure can be prevented and the nonlinear shear response can be obtained almost to shear failure. The experimental program involved four groups of tensile specimens (±30 deg, ±35 deg ±41 deg and ±45 deg) tested under impact conditions using a drop weight testing machine. Analysis was performed using classical plate theory and an incremental loading procedure. Some problems involved in conducting dynamic tests are discussed and a solution is presented.  相似文献

The ignition of COS + O2 mixtures diluted in argon was studied behind reflected shocks in a single-pulse shock tube over the temperature range of 1100–1700°K. Ignition delay times and the distribution of reaction products before and after ignition were determined experimentally. From a total of 63 tests run at varying initial conditions, the following correlation for the induction times was derived: where β1 = +0.30, β2 = 1.12, and E = 16.9 kcal/mole. Using a reaction scheme of 14 steps, the following values were obtained by a computer modeling of the induction times: β1 = +0.22, β2 = 1.55, and E = 17.3 kcal/mole. The calculations showed that the reaction COS + S → CO + S2 caused the inhibiting effect of the COS. The reaction COS → O ± CO2 + S has a very strong accelerating effect, whereas the parallel channel COS + O → CO + SO shows the opposite effect. It was also shown that the reaction O + S2 → SO + O is very slow and does not contribute to the overall oxidation reaction. It is suggested that the rate constant given to the four-center reaction COS + SO → CO2 + S2, that is, 1011 cm3/mole · sec at 300°K is incorrect. This constant is not much higher than 108 cm3/mole · sec at 1300°K.  相似文献
