Etude de la réaction de l'acé'tylacé'tate d'éthyle avec les diamino-1,5 imidazoles

The condensation of 1,5-diaminoimidazoles with ethyl aceto-acetate gives two types of compounds: imidazo[1,5-b]-1,2,4-triazepinones and imidazo[4,5-b]pyridinones. The structure of these compounds is demonstrated by rmn and mass spectroscopy. The formation of imidazo[4,5-b]pyridinones from imidazo[1,5-b]-triazepinones through a new transposition is also shown.     

Geometro-stochastic quantization of a theory for extended elementary objects

The geometro-stochastic quantization of a gauge theory based on the (4,1)-de Sitter group is presented. The theory contains an intrinsic elementary length parameter R of geometric origin taken to be of a size typical for hadron physics. Use is made of a soldered Hilbert bundle over curved spacetime carrying a phase space representation of SO(4, 1) with the Lorentz subgroup related to a vierbein formulation of gravitation. The typical fiber of is a resolution kernel Hilbert space constructed in terms of generalized coherent states related to the principal series of unitary irreducible representations of SO(4, 1), namely de Sitter horospherical waves for spinless particles characterized by the parameter . The framework is, finally, extended to a quantum field-theoretical formalism by using bundles with Fock space fibers constructed from .Supported in part by NSERC Research Grant No. A5206.     

Spatially localized free vibrations for a non-linear string model

We prove the existence of infinitely many non-zero time-periodic solutions (breathers) to the dispersive wave equation of the form which are localized in the spatial variable, that is The main tool employed is the concentration compactness principle of P. L. Lions.     

Exclusion process and droplet shape

We use a mathematical isomorphism between the one-dimensional exclusion process and the two-dimensional stochastic Ising model in the low-temperature limit to describe the typical instantaneous shape of a supercritical droplet. We derive, specifically, the exact asymptotic distribution of the boundaries of a (+1) spin region, confined to Z ₊ ² and subjected to a positive magnetic field. In an appropriate scaling, the boundary distribution converges to a deterministic continuum limit.On leave at the EPFL, CH-1015 Lausanne, Switzerland.     

First observation ofΩ * resonances

In a experiment at the CERN SPS charged hyperon beam using incident Ξ^?, we have obtained evidence for the production of two Ω^* resonances decaying into Ξ^?π⁺ K ^?, with the following parameters:M ₁=2251±12,Γ ₁=48±20 MeV/c², 78 ±23 events, andM ₂=2284±12,Γ ₂=26±23 MeV/c² 45±10 events. The first state is also observed as a 4.2σ effect in a subsample which contains an additionalK ⁺ orK ⁰ in the final state. Production cross sections and branching ratios to Ξ^* K ^? and Ξ^? K ^* are presented.     

Direct photon production from pions and protons at 200 GeV/c

Direct photon production has been studied by an experiment performed with the NA3 spectrometer at CERN, using incident negative and positive beams at 200 GeV/c interacting with an isoscalar Carbon target. Two different triggers have been used; one of them requires the photon conversion. The experiment is sensitive to direct photons produced with 3.0≦P _T ≦6 GeV/c and center-of-mass rapidity ?0.4≦y ^*≦1.2. Inclusive cross sections are given for incident π^± and protons, and compared with second order QCD predictions; finally an estimation of the gluon structure function of the nucleon is given.     

Spectroscopy of Te2 with modulation transfer: Reference lines for precision spectroscopy in Yb+ at 467 nm

Modulation-transfer spectroscopy is used to observe resonances in ¹³⁰Te₂ near 467 nm. A signal-to-noise ratio of 500 is obtained with 1 mW laser power and with a time constant of 10 ms; the lineshapes are investigated in detail for different demodulation phases. The signal can be used to servolock a blue dye ring laser at 467 nm on a ¹³⁰Te₂ resonance which serves as reference line for precision spectroscopy on single, trapped Yb⁺ ions at 467 nm.     

Cellular automata approach to site percolation on ℤ2. A numerical study

We present a cellular automata model as a new approach to Bernoulli site percolation on the square lattice. A new macroscopic quantity is defined and numerically computed at each level step of the automata dynamics. Its limit manifests a critical behavior at a value of the site occupancy probability quite close to those obtained for site percolation on ² with the best-known numerical methods.     

Thermodynamic non-additivity in disordered systems with extended phase space

Non-additivity effects in coupled dynamic-stochastic systems are investigated. It is shown that there is a mapping of the replica approach to disordered systems with finite replica indexn on Tsallis non-extensive statistics, if the average thermodynamic entropy of the dynamic subsystem differs from the information entropy for the probability distribution in the stochastic subsystem. The entropic indexq is determined by the entropy difference ΔS. In the case of incomplete information, the entropic indexq=1−n is shown to be related to the degree of lost information.
