Uniform vector bundles on quadrics

Summary In this paper we prove that a rankr uniform vector bundle on a nonsingular quadricQ with dimQ≥2r+2 is a direct sum of line bundles. We study also rank 2 uniform vector bundles onP ₁×P₁. We prove that they are not all homogeneous and that any rank 2 homogeneous vector bundles onP ₁×P₁ is decomposable.

On Singular Curves in the Case of Positive Characteristic

Nuclear convergence spaces are studied. It is shown that an L_e-embedded convergence vector space E is L_eL_M-embedded if it is Schwartz and satisfies a certain countability condition which expresses that the set of filters converging to zero is essentially countable. Further it is shown that if E is L_eL_M-embedded and nuclear, then the identity E → E can be approximated with finite operators in the equable continuous convergence structure on L(E, E). This result is used in the study of the spectrum Hom_cH_e(U) of the convergence algebra H_e(U) of holomorphic functions on a circled convex open set to prove sufficient conditions for the validity of the formula Hom_cH_e(U) ～ U.     

Weighted composition operators and locally convex algebras

The Gleason-Kahane-Zelazko theorem characterizes the continuous homomorphism of an associative, locally multiplicatively convex, sequentially complete algebra A into the field ? among all linear forms on A. This characterization will be applied along two different directions. In the case in which A is a commutative Banach algebra, the theorem yields the representation of some classes of continuous linear maps A : A→ A as weighted composition operators, or as composition operators when A is a continuous algebra endomorphism. The theorem will then be applied to explore the behaviour of continuous linear forms on quasi-regular elements, when A is either the algebra of all Hilbert-Schmidt operators or a Hilbert algebra.     

Sets Computing the Symmetric Tensor Rank

Let ${\nu_{d} : \mathbb{P}^{r} \rightarrow \mathbb{P}^{N}, N := \left( \begin{array}{ll} r + d \\ \,\,\,\,\,\, r \end{array} \right)- 1,}$ denote the degree d Veronese embedding of ${\mathbb{P}^{r}}$ . For any ${P\, \in \, \mathbb{P}^{N}}$ , the symmetric tensor rank sr(P) is the minimal cardinality of a set ${\mathcal{S} \subset \nu_{d}(\mathbb{P}^{r})}$ spanning P. Let ${\mathcal{S}(P)}$ be the set of all ${A \subset \mathbb{P}^{r}}$ such that ${\nu_{d}(A)}$ computes sr(P). Here we classify all ${P \,\in\, \mathbb{P}^{n}}$ such that sr(P) <  3d/2 and sr(P) is computed by at least two subsets of ${\nu_{d}(\mathbb{P}^{r})}$ . For such tensors ${P\, \in\, \mathbb{P}^{N}}$ , we prove that ${\mathcal{S}(P)}$ has no isolated points.     

A Few Remarks About the Hilbert Scheme of Smooth Projective Curves

We discuss two conjectures by Francesco Severi and Joe Harris about the irreducibility and the dimension of the Hilbert scheme parameterizing smooth projective curves of given degree and genus.     

On the order of projective curves

Here we prove the existence of several componentsW of the Hilbert scheme of curves inP ⁿ such that the generalC W has Hartshorne-Rao module with order equal to its diameter.     

Vector bundles on a three-dimensional neighborhood of a ruled surface

Let S be a ruled surface inside a smooth threefold W and let E be a vector bundle on a formal neighborhood of S. We find minimal conditions under which the local moduli space of E is finite dimensional and smooth. Moreover, we show that E is a flat limit of a flat family of vector bundles whose general element we describe explicitly.     

On Buchsbaum bundles on quadric hypersurfaces

Let E be an indecomposable rank two vector bundle on the projective space ℙ ⁿ , n ≥ 3, over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. It is well known that E is arithmetically Buchsbaum if and only if n = 3 and E is a null-correlation bundle. In the present paper we establish an analogous result for rank two indecomposable arithmetically Buchsbaum vector bundles on the smooth quadric hypersurface Q _n ⊂ ℙ ⁿ⁺¹, n ≥ 3. We give in fact a full classification and prove that n must be at most 5. As to k-Buchsbaum rank two vector bundles on Q ₃, k ≥ 2, we prove two boundedness results.     

ACM vector bundles on scrolls

Here we show that certain low rank ACM vector bundles on scrolls over smooth curves are iterated extensions of line bundles. Partially supported by MIUR and GNSAGA of INDAM (Italy)
