Role of inlet reactant mixedness on the thermodynamic performance of a rotating detonation engine

Rotating detonation engines have the potential to achieve the high propulsive efficiencies of detonation cycles in a simple and effective annular geometry. A two-dimensional Euler simulation is modified to include mixing factors to simulate the imperfect mixing of injected reactant streams. Contrary to expectations, mixing is shown to have a minimal impact on performance. Oblique detonation waves are shown to increase local stream thermal efficiency, which compensates for other losses in the flow stream. The degree of reactant mixing is, however, a factor in controlling the stability and existence of rotating detonations.     

The role of the cytoskeleton in cell body enlargement,increased nuclear eccentricity and chromatolysis in axotomized spinal motor neurons

Background  

When spinal motor axons are injured, the nucleolus, nucleus and cell body of the injured cell transiently increase in size, the nucleus becomes more eccentrically placed, and the organization of polyribosomes into Nissl bodies is temporarily disrupted. The mechanisms for these classical morphological responses to axotomy have not been satisfactorily explained.

Due to the Rowland circle's effect element specific microprobe photographs should not be lower than 300 fold of magnification. This limitation can be suspended by use of the focal circle adjustment, available in some types of microprobes. By sequential exposure (stripe by stripe) areas of the sample up to 0.5 mm² can be photographed without gradation of tints and with low detection limits. The application of the procedure is demonstrated by a corrosion problem.     

How does cold constrain life cycles of terrestrial plants and animals?

Short summer seasons with low thermal energy input characterise polar ecosystems. Climatic variables and physical isolation of terrestrial habitats act as selective filters which must be passed to allow colonisation, establishment and survival in these extreme environments. Life history studies of the terrestrial biota of such ecosystems give little evidence of adaptive responses to low temperatures having evolved in situ, even though behavioural, ecophysiological and biochemical features allowing tolerance of the likely extremes are well-developed. Observed life history strategies are often consistent with the general predictions of adversity (A) or stress (S) selection. However, biota successful in these extreme environments may be better-grouped by the lack of particular life history features, rather than common possession.     

SOME GEOMETRIC PROPERTIES OF A NEW DIFFERENCE SEQUENCE SPACE INVOLVING LACUNARY SEQUENCES

In this paper, we define a new generalized difference sequence space involving lacunary sequence. Then, we examine k-NUC property and property （β） for this space and also show that it is not rotund where p = （pr） is a bounded sequence of positive real numbers with pr ≥ 1 for all r ∈ N.     

On lacunary statistical convergence of order α

In this article, we introduce the concept of lacunary statistical convergence of order α of real number sequences and give some inclusion relations between the sets of lacunary statistical convergence of order α and strong N_θ^α(p)-summability. Furthermore, some relations between the spaces N_θ^αS_θ^α are examined.     

Analyticity for Some Operator Functions from Statistical Quantum Mechanics

For rather general thermodynamic equilibrium distribution functions the density of a statistical ensemble of quantum mechanical particles depends analytically on the potential in the Schr?dinger operator describing the quantum system. A key to the proof is that the resolvent to a power less than one of an elliptic operator with non-smooth coefficients, and mixed Dirichlet/Neumann boundary conditions on a bounded up to three-dimensional Lipschitz domain boundedly maps the space of square integrable functions to the space of essentially bounded functions.
