The Fermi to Gamow-Teller mixing ratio of theβ + decay of52Mn and time-reversal invariance

To date, ten experimental measurements of the asymmetry parameter have been made for the positron decay of⁵²Mn. The Fermi to Gamow-Teller mixing ratioy can be deduced from such measurements and this quantity is important because the time-reversal violating amplitude is proportional toy/(1+y²). Our theoretical calculation using the Collective Model yieldsy=? 3.5×10^?4 for the deformation parameterβ=0.1 andy=? 4.6×10^?4 forβ=0.2. Such small values ofy are consistent with time-reversal invarisance.     

Relaxation dynamics of a broadband nanosecond acoustic pulse in a bubbly medium

The first experimental observation of the propagation dynamics of a short broadband acoustic pulse in a resonance medium with gas bubbles is carried out. The probing pulse is generated using the optoacoustic effect. It is shown that the theory of short pulse propagation in media with generalized resonance relaxation adequately and accurately describes the dynamics of short pulse dispersion. A possibility to determine the relaxation and resonance parameters of media by the pulsed testing technique is demonstrated.

A locally computed suboptimal control strategy for a class of interconnected systems

In this paper, a locally computed suboptimal control strategy for a class of interconnected systems is introduced. First, optimal statefeedback control equations are derived for a finite-horizon quadratic cost. Then, the control for each subsystem is separated into two portions. The first portion stabilizes the isolated subsystem, and the second portion corresponds to the interactions. To achieve a locally calculable control, an approximation to the optimal control equations is introduced, and two iterative suboptimal control algorithms are developed. In the first algorithm, the initial conditions of subsystems are assumed to be known; in the second algorithm, this information is replaced by statistical distributions. The orders of errors in the iterations of the algorithm and in the suboptimality are given in terms of interconnections. An example with comparisons is also included to show the performance of the approach.     

Specific Features of the Quasilocal State Densities in the Presence of Defects in Media with Spatial Dispersion

The density of stationary quasilocal states of the continuous spectrum arising due to the presence of defects in a medium with spatial dispersion is analyzed. The influence of plane and point defects on the specific features of the spectral quasilocal state density is studied. It is demonstrated that the spectral density has a strict maximum caused by the quasilocal energy level arising in the system. For a plane defect, the energy of the quasilocal level is displaced from the resonance energy of total quasi-particle reflection from the defect. The influence of the quasilocal state on the electronic heat capacity in the presence of the point defect is analyzed.     

Two-stream-like mechanism of zonal-flow generation by Rossby waves in a shallow rotating fluid

It is shown that the small-scale Rossby waves in a shallow rotating fluid placed in a gravitational field can generate large-scale zonal flows by means of a two-stream-like mechanism. This mechanism is revealed under the conditions when the Lighthill instability criterion is not satisfied. The text was submitted by the authors in English.
