Beckmann Fragmentation of Diphenylcarbamoylated N-Aryldiphenacylamine Dioximes. New Method for the Synthesis of Imidazooxadiazolones

N-Aryl-N,N-diphenacylamine dioximes were prepared by the reaction of corresponding arylamines with α-bromoacetophenone oxime in ethanol-water at room temperature. These compounds reacted with aryl isocyanates in acetonitrile to give imidazooxadiazolones 9. The probable mechanism of the reaction is discussed.     

Effects on molecular orientation and phase transition of addition of carbon nanotubes into liquid crystalline matrix

For practical guest–host applications, it is important to choose dyes with a high ability of orientation in the liquid crystal (LC) matrix. In this experimental work, two different azo-structured dyes (disperse yellow 3 and 7) were separately doped to each of two different nematic LCs (E7 and ZLI-1132). Their solubilities, textures, phase transition temperatures and order parameters were determined. At the second stage, single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) in a small amount were separately added to each of these solutions, and the experiments were repeated as similar to the previous ones. The solubilities of dyes in the LC E7 were lower than those of ZLI-1132. Moreover, the highest order parameter value was attained with yellow 7 dye in ZLI-1132 nematic host. Co-use of nanoparticles (CNTs) as dopant resulted in notable increases in order parameters. These dyes and CNTs did not significantly destabilise the mesomorphic phase of nematic hosts. An appreciable change in textures was not monitored with addition of dopant(s). In addition, it was observed that the narrowing on the temperature range of the LC did not take place with the addition of dopants to the crystal; on the contrary, an increase was recorded.     

Voltammetric Determination of Favipiravir Used as an Antiviral Drug for the Treatment of Covid-19 at Pencil Graphite Electrode

This work describes the sensitive voltammetric determination of favipiravir (FAV) based on its reduction for the first time with a low-cost and disposable pencil graphite electrode (PGE). In addition, the determination of FAV was also performed based on its oxidation. Differential pulse (DP) voltammograms recorded in 0.5 M H₂SO₄ for the reduction of FAV show that peak currents increase linearly in the range of 1.0 to 600.0 μM with a limit of detection of 0.35 μM. The acceptable recovery values (98.9–106.0 %) obtained from a pharmaceutical tablet, real human urine, and artificial blood serum samples spiked with FAV confirm the high accuracy of the proposed method.     

Zinc oxide nanostructured platform for electrochemical detection of heavy metals

ZnO nanoparticles (ZnO-NP) were prepared by a facile precipitation technique using di-isopropyl amine as precipitating agent. The morpho-structure and porosity of the as-prepared nano-powder were investigated by FT-IR analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and BET analysis. By drop-casting, a composite film was deposited to obtain ZnO-NP-Nafion/GCE modified electrode. The modified electrode was investigated by cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and square wave anodic stripping voltammetry (SWASV) for the detection of Pb²⁺, Cd²⁺, Cu²⁺, and Fe³⁺, and it was successfully applied for the detection of Pb²⁺ and Cu²⁺ in real water samples.     

Laccase-based amperometric biosensor enhanced by Ni/Au/PPy-COOH multisegmental nanowires for selective dopamine detection

One-dimensional Ni/Au/PPy-COOH nanowires with multiple segments were synthesized in this study. Smooth surfaces and magnetic properties of nanowires were investigated by scanning transmission electron microscopy (SEM), Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) techniques. The nanowires were used to modify the screen-printed electrode surface and as a micro-environment for Trametes versicolor laccase. The ability of this enzyme biosensor to detect dopamine change in human biological samples was demonstrated by a wide linear range (0.01–50 μM) and a low LOD (2.265 nM). In addition, the biosensor exhibited excellent selectivity allowing the detection of dopamine in the presence of ascorbic acid, uric acid, L-Cys, serotonin, and glucose, with high sensitivity of reduction currents obtained at −0.2 V (vs. Ag/AgCl). The proposed biosensor allowed the detection of dopamine in commercial serum and artificial urine with recovery values close to 100 %. It also demonstrated reproducibility, reusability, and long-term storage stability. The sensitivity, K_m^app, and I_max values of the biosensor were determined as 2.05 μM and 1.03 μA, respectively. The LAC-Ni/Au/PPy-COOH/NAF/SPE biosensor is a reliable design for detecting dopamine with a wide linear range.

Conducting hydrogels based on semi‐interpenetrating networks of polyaniline in poly(acrylamide‐co‐itaconic acid) matrix: synthesis and characterization

In this work, acrylamide/itaconic acid copolymeric hydrogels are prepared by free radical polymerization initiated by redox initiators of potassium persulfate and N ,N ,N ′,N ′‐tetramethyl ethylene diamine; N ,N ′methylene bisacrylamide was employed as a crosslinking agent. Aniline monomer was absorbed in the network of poly(acrylamide‐co‐itaconic acid) P(AAm‐co‐IA) hydrogel and followed by gamma radiation induced polymerization at room temperature. The novel semi‐interpenetrating network was comprised of linear polyaniline immersed in P(AAm‐co‐IA) matrix. Electrical conductivity of the hydrogels was measured using four‐probe technique. The conductivities for the prepared hydrogels are found to increase from 5.5 × 10^?7 S cm^?1 for P(AAm‐co‐IA) alone to 4.4 × 10^?3 S cm^?1 for semi‐interpenetrating polymer network P(AAm‐co‐IA)/polyaniline. Thus, a new composite hydrogel with good conductive properties also displaying enhanced mechanical strength and pH sensitivity was prepared. Copyright © 2017 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

A novel ditopic ring-expanded N-heterocyclic carbene ligand-assisted Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction in aqueous media

A series of seven-membered ditopic ring-expanded N-heterocyclic carbene (dre-NHC) precursors, bearing sterically demanding and electron-rich aryl groups, were synthesised in moderate yields via the reaction of 1,2,4,5-tetrakis(bromomethyl)benzene with the corresponding N,N′-diarylformamidines in the presence of K₂CO₃ in acetonitrile under an air atmosphere. All new compounds were characterised by HRMS, NMR spectroscopy, and microanalysis, as well as X-ray crystallography for compound 1c. The development of an efficient catalytic system for the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction of aryl chlorides with various boronic acids was also investigated using the in situ generated dre-NHC ligands.     

Tribological behavior of the low-concentration boric acid and ZDDP lubricating oil mixtures

Zinc dithiophosphate (ZDDP)-free environmental friendly lubricating oil research studies have gained importance due to the governmental regulations over the last decade. In this study, low concentration boric acid-base oil and ZDDP-base oil mixtures were investigated with a ball on flat reciprocating tribometer to evaluate their tribological performances. The tribological performances of 1, 3, and 5% additive and base oil mixtures were evaluated at boundary lubrication condition in three main contexts including wear rates, surface tribochemistry, and friction. Results showed that there was no significant difference between boric acid and ZDDP friction coefficients. However, boric acid showed poor wear resistance when compared with ZDDP and it cannot be an alternative additive alone to ZDDPs.     

SPE and determination by FAAS of heavy metals using a new synthesized polymer resin in various water and dried vegetables samples

Firstly, poly[phenyl thiadiazole methacrylamide-co-divinylbenzene-co-2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid] (PTMAAm-co-DVB-co-AMPS), a new polymer resin was synthesized. This polymer resin was characterized by elemental analyzer, X-ray diffractometer, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and IR spectrometer. The glass column packed with the synthesized polymer resin was used for solid phase extraction (SPE). At the same time, the analytes were separated and preconcentrated from various water, dried vegetables samples and standard reference material (CRM) with SPE and determined by flame atomic absorption spectrometer (FAAS). The experimental conditions of this method such as pH, flow rates of sample, flow rates of eluent, type / concentration / volume of eluent, sample volume and matrix ions were examined. The limits of detection (µg L^?1) were calculated (3s) 0.9 for Mn(II), 1.4 for Cd(II), Co(II) and Zn(II), 1.5 for Cr(III), 2.2. for Cu(II), 1.9 for Pb(II),1.5 for Ni(II) and 1.9 for Fe(III) (n = 21). The low relative standard deviation, ≤ 2% (n = 11) and preconcentration factor as 75 for analytes were obtained.
