1‐Hydroxy‐1H‐benzo[d][1,2,6]oxazaborinin‐4(3H)‐one

The structure of the title compound, C₇H₆BNO₃, a new boron heterocycle, prepared by the condensation of (2‐ethoxycarbonylphenyl)boronic acid and hydroxylamine, reveals the specific mode of intramolecular condensation between a phenylboronic acid and an ortho hydroxamic acid substituent. The crystal structure shows that dehydration occurs to form a planar oxazaborinine ring possessing both phenol‐like B—O—H and lactam functional groups. In the extended structure, intermolecular hydrogen bonding generates a 14‐membered ring. To our knowledge, this is the first crystal structure determination involving a six‐membered ring that exhibits consecutive B—OH, O, NH, and C=O functional groups.     

Smooth metric measure spaces with weighted Poincaré inequality

In this paper, we study smooth metric measure space (M, g, e ^?f dv) satisfying a weighted Poincaré inequality and establish a rigidity theorem for such a space under a suitable Bakry–Émery curvature lower bound. We also consider the space of f-harmonic functions with finite energy and prove a structure theorem.     

A simulation-based genetic algorithm approach for reducing emissions from import container pick-up operation at container terminal

Emissions from idle truck engines are a main source of pollution at container terminals. In this study, we focus on reducing such emission from waiting trucks as well as the related crane operations with a new truck arrival control method that gives individual truck limited time slots for entry. We develop a method to optimize the time slot assignment for individual trucks, aiming at minimizing total emissions from trucks and cranes at import yards. The method applies discrete event simulation to estimate total truck waiting times and crane moving distance, and then applies a genetic algorithm to minimize the generated emissions from these trucks and cranes. The experiment result shows that the truck arrivals should be controlled based on the stacking of import containers, and that such control is necessary for reducing truck idling emissions at a congested container terminal.

Ferro- and antiferromagnetism in oxychalcogenides LnCrOX2 (Ln = La or Nd and X = S or Se)

The two isomorphous compounds LaCrOS₂ and LaCrOSe₂ are ferromagnetic (T_c = 35 and 51 K, respectively). This implies ferromagnetic super-superexchange interactions. NdCrOS₂ is antiferromagnetic (T_N = 72 K) and undergoes a spin-flop transition (H_c = 54 KOe at 20 K). The study of the thermal variation of Cr³⁺ and Nd³⁺ magnetic moments below T_N allows a rough estimate of the Cr---Nd and Cr---Cr exchange fields ratio (0.1).
