Lignocellulosic biomass material sourced from plants and herbaceous sources is considered as a prospective feedstock of inexpensive,potentially carbon-neutral energy.Lignocellulosic biomass is structurally built on cellulose,hemicellulose,and lignin,which are present in varying concentrations based on the feedstock type and play distinct and not well understood mechanical functions in the flow behavior.The frictional characteristics of lignocellulosic biomass particulates influence their flow behavior in biorefineries.Thus,it is important to fundamentally investigate the relative contribution of cellulose,hemicellulose,and lignin to the frictional behavior.However,these three biopolymers are interwoven into a complex matrix in the lignocellulosic biomass,thus making it hard to quantify the contribution of each biopolymer.In this study,we selectively remove hemicellulose from switchgrass and investigate the effects of its diminishing concentration on the coefficient of friction.We observed that the angle of repose and,therefore,the coefficient of friction for a loose assembly of the control and treated switchgrass samples decrease with decreasing hemicellulose content.This indicates the frictional resistance to flow for biomass particulate assemblies is at least proportional to the hemicellulose content.We also established that the observed changes in the frictional behavior were not due to particle morphological characteristics.  相似文献

The behavior of a packing material (Luna C18 from Phenomenex, Torrance, CA, USA) was studied during the consolidation of a column bed under axial compression stress. The kinetics of this consolidation, the permeability and efficiency of the columns obtained, and the reproducibility of these column properties were measured under different conditions. The consolidation process and the column properties are considerably affected by the friction between the packing material in the bed and the column wall. Clear evidence of this wall effect was demonstrated. The apparent permeability of columns consolidated under the same axial stress increases with increasing column length. The apparent modulus of elasticity of the beds increases with increasing column length. The shear resistance between the packed bed and the column wall was measured for columns of different lengths. It increases rapidly with increasing bed length. The column efficiency for thiourea (unretained) and phenyloctane (retention factor, k' approximately 1) was much poorer after recompression than after the first compression. It depended little on the compression stress. The effect of the column length was small.  相似文献

High pressures, in the kilobar range, are now used in liquid chromatography. Basic equations from mechanics are applied to investigate the stress state in several idealized chromatography tubes, and these stresses are evaluated with respect to the maximum allowable stresses predicted by several methods used in pressure vessel design. An analytical solution is developed for the dimensional changes of idealized tubes subjected to internal pressure, and the analytical solutions used to verify the results from a numerical approximation. Numerical approximations are then used to explore the effects of the end restraint provided by the end frits. Conclusions are derived regarding the requirements for a safe operation of these high pressure chromatography tubes.  相似文献

The mass excesses of 33Si and 34Si have been measured using the 36S(11B, 14, 13N)33, 34Si; reactions. Values of ?20.550 ± 0.030 MeV (33Si) and ?20.017 ± 0.025 MeV (34Si) were obtained. In addition, an excited state of 34Si was observed at 5.33 ± 0.05 MeV, and excited levels of 33Si were observed at 1.06 ± 0.02 and 4.32 ± 0.03 MeV. These results are compared with recent shell-model calculations.  相似文献

The quasi-optical mode converter for a frequency step-tunable gyrotron which consists of a dimpled-wall antenna (Denisov-type launcher) and a beam-forming mirror system has been optimized for 9 modes from TE17,6 at 105 GHz to TE23,8 at 143 GHz. The first mirror is a large quasi-elliptical focusing one; the second and third are phase-correcting mirrors with a non-quadratic shape of the surface. The results of calculations show that for these modes the Denisov-type launcher has a well-focused beam with low diffraction losses, and the radiation pattern presents an almost identical field shape for all modes considered. A multi-mode optimization of the phase-correcting mirrors with two different methods has been tested. The simulations show that the phase-correcting mirrors can be used for broadband operation in the frequency range from 105 GHz up to 143 GHz in the various design modes. This quasi-optical mode converter can achieve efficiencies of 94%-98% for converting the rotating high-order cylindrical cavity modes into the usable fundamental Gaussian mode.  相似文献

A broadband quasi-optical (QO) mode converter for a multi-frequency gyrotron has been designed and tested at Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe (FZK). The launcher is optimized for the TE22,8 mode at 140 GHz, but the radiated beams present an almost identically focused pattern for all 9 considered modes between 105 GHz (TE17,6) and 143 GHz (TE23,8). Combining with a beam-forming mirror system, which consists of a quasi-elliptical mirror and two phase-correcting mirrors with non-quadratic surface contour, further calculations show that efficiencies of more than 94% have been achieved for converting the rotating high-order cylindrical cavity modes into the usable fundamental Gaussian mode. Low power (cold) measurements show a good agreement with theoretical predictions. This QO mode converter can be used for the broadband operation of a multi-frequency 1 MW gyrotron.  相似文献

We report on high-resolution X-ray diffraction and time-resolved photoluminescence (TR-PL) studies of antimonide-based midinfrared (MIR) type-II laser samples. A structural characterization taking into account asymmetrical strain, layer tilting, and relaxation enables an accurate determination of the average lattice constant of the active region and the composition of the cladding layers. By designing the antimonide-to-arsenide interfaces, we achieve exact lattice matching of the active region to the substrate. Non-radiative recombination processes are investigated with time-resolved photoluminescence. The samples are also characterized under optically pumped laser operation. By an examination of the time-integrated and time-resolved amplified spontaneous emission (TR-ASE), we investigate the modal gain and gain dynamics. The variable stripe length method is combined with the TR-PL approach. Compared to the time-integrated gain spectra the spectral dependence of the maximum and minimum time-resolved gain shows a broad plateau. The full width half maximum (FWHM) of the TR-ASE pulse is 5.5 +/- 0.5 ps. Thus, short pulses in this range should be achievable upon laser operation. The active regions of the laser structures investigated here are promising subunits of type-II quantum cascade lasers.  相似文献
