In-beam spectroscopy of 126Ce and 127Pr

High spin states in ₁₂₆Ce and ₁₂₇Pr were populated via heavy ion reactions with 182-MeV ₃₅Cl projectiles on a thick ₉₆Ru target. Prompt γ–γ coincidences were measured. New states in ₁₂₆Ce and ₁₂₇Pr were found. The results are discussed in the framework of the core–quasiparticle coupling model. Received: 16 June 1998     

Piaselenol—Piaselenolium—Pentaiodid (C6H4N2Se · C6H5N2Se+I3− · I2), eine Struktur mit Polyiodid-schichten

Piaselenole—Piaselenolium—Pentaiodide (C₆H₄N₂Se · C₆H₅N₂Se⁺ I₃^? · I₂), a Structure with Polyiodide Layers The title compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2₁/n with a = 9.320(3), b = 13.812(2), c = 17.159(3) Å, β = 96.11(2)°, V = 2196.3 ų, Z = 4. There occur no isolated I^5? anions but layer-shaped polyiodide aggregates built up by linear, asymmetric I₃^? anions and I₂ molecules. Almost linear triiodide chains are connected by I₂ molecules in a novel type of arrangement to form slightly puckered layers. The polyiodide layers contain several substructures known from other examples. The piaselenole and its conjugated acid, the piaselenolium cation, form a ribbon-like quasi-polymer in which the two components are alternating. They are connected in turns by a linear NH? N hydrogen bridge (N? N: 2.844 Å) and by a so called (SeN)₂-connectivity parallelogram, in which Se? N bonds and Se? N contacts are adjacent. Here we found a very short Se? N contact distance of 2.691 Å. The bond distances of piaselenole (Se? N: 1.787(3) Å, N? C: 1.318(5) Å, C? C: 1.453(8) Å) and also the angles are equal or similar to those occuring in other 1,2,5-selenadiazoles. The protonation of one N in the SeN₂ unit results in a loss of symmetry and significant changes in bonding distances and angles.     

Topometry for locally changing materials

Three-dimensional topometry is supplemented with ellipsometric measurements on the same pixel raster for calculation of the phase of the reflected waves and correction of the height fields. Lateral resolution is <1mum . The ellipsometric angles are determined by phase shifting and contrast evaluation. Three-dimensional fields of the ellipsometric angles, the real and the imaginary parts of the refractive index, and the corrected topography of the heights are presented.     

Construction of Some Uncountable 2-Arc-Transitive Bipartite Graphs

We give various constructions of uncountable arc-transitive bipartite graphs employing techniques from partial orders, starting with the cycle-free case, but generalizing to cases where this may be violated. This work was supported by a grant from the EPSRC.     

Absolute E3 and M2 transition probabilities for the electromagnetic decay of the \mathrm{\ensuremath I^{\pi}=K^{\pi}=8^{-}} isomeric state in 132Ce

The decay of the $\ensuremath I^{\pi}=K^{\pi}=8^{-}$ isomeric state at 2340keV in ¹³²Ce has been investigated in the ¹²⁰Sn(¹⁶O, 4n)¹³²Ce reaction. The measurements were carried out in e - $ \gamma$ and $ \gamma$ - $ \gamma$ coincidence modes using an electron spectrometer coupled to the OSIRIS II gamma-ray array at the Heavy Ion Laboratory of the University of Warsaw. Experimentally obtained internal conversion coefficients for the $\ensuremath 8^{-} \rightarrow 6^{+}$ and $\ensuremath 8^{-} \rightarrow 5^{+}$ transitions allowed the multipolarities, mixing ratios, reduced transition probabilities and hindrance factors to be determined.     

Chiral bands in odd-odd nuclei with rigid or soft cores

Properties of chiral bands in an odd-odd nucleus, which is treated as a system of an even-even core and a pair of particles in the πh _11/2 ⊗ υh _11/2 ^-1 configuration, are calculated in the frame of the Core-Particle-Hole Coupling (CPHC) model with either a rigid triaxial or a soft core. The results of calculations for the two different cores are compared. The properties of the nucleus with the rigid, maximally triaxial ( γ = 30^°and with the entirely soft core are qualitatively very similar.     

Complementary closed relational clones are not always Krasner clones

In ZFC, it is shown that every relational clone on a set A closed under complementation is a Krasner clone if and only if A is at most countable. This is achieved by solving an equivalent problem on locally invertible monoids: A partially ordered set is constructed whose endomorphism monoid is not contained in the local closure of its automorphism group. Pathway Control in Cooperative vs. Anti‐Cooperative Supramolecular Polymers

Controlling the nanoscale morphology in assemblies of π‐conjugated molecules is key to developing supramolecular functional materials. Here, we report an unsymmetrically substituted amphiphilic Pt^II complex 1 that shows unique self‐assembly behavior in nonpolar media, providing two competing anti‐cooperative and cooperative pathways with distinct molecular arrangement (long‐ vs. medium‐slipped, respectively) and nanoscale morphology (discs vs. fibers, respectively). With a thermodynamic model, we unravel the competition between the anti‐cooperative and cooperative pathways: buffering of monomers into small‐sized, anti‐cooperative species affects the formation of elongated assemblies, which might open up new strategies for pathway control in self‐assembly. Our findings reveal that side‐chain immiscibility is an efficient method to control anti‐cooperative assemblies and pathway complexity in general.
