Within a second virial theory, we study bulk phase diagrams as well as the free planar isotropic-nematic interface of binary mixtures of nonadditive thin and thick hard rods. For species of the same type, the excluded volume is determined only by the dimensions of the particles, whereas for dissimilar ones it is taken to be larger or smaller than that, giving rise to a nonadditivity that can be positive or negative. We argue that such a nonadditivity can result from modeling of soft interactions as effective hard-core interactions. The nonadditivity enhances or reduces the fractionation at isotropic-nematic (IN) coexistence and may induce or suppress a demixing of the high-density nematic phase into two nematic phases of different composition (N(1) and N(2)), depending on whether the nonadditivity is positive or negative. The interfacial tension between coexisting isotropic and nematic phases shows an increase with increasing fractionation at the IN interface, and complete wetting of the IN(2) interface by the N(1) phase upon approach of the triple-point coexistence. In all explored cases bulk and interfacial properties of the nonadditive mixtures exhibit a striking and quite unexpected similarity with the properties of additive mixtures of different diameter ratio. 相似文献

A rapid method of capillary zone electrophoresis is described to determine the oxidized (GSSG) and reduced (GSH) form of glutathione in plant tissue. In order to separate both analytes in a fused-silica capillary, the pH and composition of the electrolyte solution were optimized. The electrolyte composition was 100 mmol/L, borate 25 mmol/L Tris, and 0.2% w/v metaphosphoric acid (MPA), pH 8.2. Some instrumental conditions used to run the samples were hydrostatic injection for 30 s, 30 kV applied voltage, and UV detection (185 nm) at 25 degrees C. Linearity and useful range obtained for the calibration curves were optimum, with correlation coefficients about 0.999 in the 0-120 micromol/L range. The migration time was highly reproducible, less than 5 min being afforded to run a sample. Electrolyte buffer and samples required a careful pH control for optimal separation of both analytes. This aspect constitutes a critical analytical step when acids are used in the procedure for sample preparation. Simultaneous analysis of GSH and GSSG may provide a useful tool for comparative studies of plants in order to select those species with a potential capacity for detoxification from toxic elements or those appearing promising from phytoremediation for these elements. 相似文献

The energy of combustion of 2,5-dimethoxybenzoic acid has been determined using a static bomb calorimeter. The vapor pressures of the compound have been measured over a 18 K temperature interval by the Knudsen effusion technique. Heat capacity measurements betweenT=270 K andT=338 K were carried out by DSC. From these experimental results the standard molar enthalpies of combustion, sublimation, and formation in the crystalline and gaseous state at the temperature 298.15 K have been derived. In an alternative approach the substituent effect of the methoxy groups was evaluated within the framework of isodesmic reactions. The effect of disubstitution was referred to mono derivatives and the excess energy—the so-called buttressing effect—was evaluated (2–24 kJ· mol–1 for individual bis derivatives). The restricted rotation about the partial C,N double bond in 2-chloro-6-NR2-pyran-4-ones is discussed in the light of NMR spectroscopic data and theoretical calculations.Ab initio calculations at the HF/6-31G* level were carried out using a continuum model to take solvent effects into account. The delocalization of-electron density [described by natural bond orbital analysis (NBO)] was applied to determine the degree of conjugation in the ground state (GS) and in the transition state (TS) for the restricted rotation of the compounds studied. The controlled biodegradation of ametryn and methomyl has been performed, in accordance with the OECD Zahn-Wellens/EMPA procedure, by use of an enriched mixture of activated sludge collected from three domestic waste-water-treatment plants (WWTP). During the process concentrations of ametryn and methomyl in the water samples were isolated by solid-phase extraction (SPE); recovery rates were 98.9 and 93.2 for methomyl and ametryn, respectively. Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) was used to determine final pesticide concentrations and for metabolite identification.The efficiency of aerobic biodegradation of ametryn and methomyl was evaluated by measuring both the decrease in the concentration of the pesticides and global properties such as the chemical oxygen demand (COD). The acute toxicity of ametryn and methomyl was evaluated by use of the ToxAlert100 biological test, which is based on inhibition of the bioluminescence of Vibrio fischeri. There was significant correlation between results from primary and ultimate biodegradation and those from determination of toxicity. Pesticide concentrations were always reduced to below the limit of detection in less than 17 days. High COD removal (90-96%) was achieved in 28 and 18 days for methomyl and ametryn, respectively. 相似文献

Electrodes containing glucose oxidase or xanthine oxidase adsorbed on modified glassy carbon electrodes or on conductive complexes, accumulate charge in the presence of substrates, the discharge of which gives the chronoamperometric stripping current. This current is 15 times higher than the stationary current after preconcentration for 8 min. A ten-fold increase in sensitivity of the determination of glucose or hypoxanthine is observed. The stripping current of electrodes based on cytochrome b2 adsorbed on a graphite electrode is 25 times higher than the stationary current.
