A new algorithm for the numerical solution of the Zakharov equations is presented. This algorithm is explicit and it is second-order accurate. The convergence of the algorithm is demonstrated by numerically solving the Zakharov equations for several test cases.  相似文献

The electrocatalytic activities of a wide range of ordered intermetallic phases toward a variety of potential fuels have been studied, and results have been compared to those of a pure polycrystalline platinum (Pt(pc)) electrode. A significant number of the ordered intermetallic phases exhibited enhanced electrocatalytic activity when compared to that of Pt, in terms of both oxidation onset potential and current density. The PtBi, PtIn, and PtPb ordered intermetallic phases appeared to be the most promising electrocatalysts tested thus far for fuel cell applications. PtPb, in particular, showed an onset potential that was 100 mV less positive and a peak current density approximately 40 times higher than those observed for Pt in the case of methanol oxidation. The ability to control the geometric and electronic structures of the electrocatalytic material by using ordered intermetallic phases has been shown to be a promising direction of inquiry in the search for superior electrocatalysts for fuel cell applications.  相似文献

The electrophoretic mobility behavior of well-characterized polystyrene latex particles, carrying one type of surface functional endgroups, has been studied as a function of pH. At low pH, the interaction of protons with the functional endgroups increased in the order: Hydroxyl > carboxyl > sulfate; at high pH the order of interaction was reversed; and at intermediate pH no interactions were observed. The particles of the polystyrene latexes in their different forms at the intermediate pH range, dispersed in deionized water, all exhibited the same mobility irrespective of the functional endgroup. The origin of charge in these systems is explained as being the result of either the preferential adsorption of hydroxyl ions or an electron - injection mechanism due to the overlap of local intrinsic molecular - ion states in polystyrene and water. At low concentrations of functional endgroups, the surface properties of the polystyrene latexes are largely dependent upon the hydrophobic nature of the surface.  相似文献

PdAu nanocrystals are synthesised by Geobacter sulfurreducens, a dissimilatory metal‐reducing bacterium, and the resulting bimetallic nanocrystal‐decorated microbes are imaged using a range of advanced electron microscopy techniques. Specifically, the first example of elemental mapping of fully hydrated biological nanostructures using scanning transmission electron microscope (STEM) energy dispersive X‐ray (EDX) spectrum imaging within an environmental liquid‐cell is reported. These results are combined with cryo‐TEM and ex situ STEM imaging and EDX analysis with the aim of better understanding microbial synthesis of bimetallic nanoparticles. It is demonstrated that although Au and Pd are colocalized across the cells, the population of nanoparticles produced is bimodal, containing ultrasmall alloyed nanocrystals with diameters <3 nm and significantly larger core‐shell structures (>200 nm in diameter) which show higher Pd contents and exhibit a Pd enriched shell only a few nanometers thick. The application of high‐resolution imaging techniques described here offers the potential to visualize the microbe‐metal interface during the bioproduction of a range of functional materials by microbial “green” synthesis routes, and also key interfaces underpinning globally relevant environmental processes (e.g., metal cycling).  相似文献

Background  

The hematopoietic Granulocyte-Colony Stimulating Factor (G-CSF) plays a crucial role in controlling the number of neutrophil progenitor cells. Its function is mediated via the G-CSF receptor, which was recently found to be expressed also in the central nervous system. In addition, G-CSF provided neuroprotection in models of neuronal cell death. Here we used the retinal ganglion cell (RGC) axotomy model to compare effects of local and systemic application of neuroprotective molecules.  相似文献

A new finite-element based method of calculating non-linear wave loads on offshore structures in extreme seas is presented in this paper. The diffraction wave field is modelled using Stokes wave theory developed to second order. Wave loads and free surface elevations are obtained for fixed surface-piercing structures by solving a boundary value problem for the second-order velocity potential. Special attention has been given to the radiation condition for the second-order diffraction field. Results are presented for three test examples, the vertical cylinders of Kim and Yue and of Chakrabarti, and an elliptic cylinder. These results demonstrate that early problems with the application of second-order theory arising from inadequate radiation conditions have been overcome.  相似文献
