The present investigation is the study of the laminar hydromagnetic flow due to torsional oscillations of an infinite disk about a steady non-zero mean in an electrically conducting fluid. Separate solutions have been obtained for the limiting cases of low and high frequency oscillations. The low frequency solution is obtained by expressing the flow functions in powers (ik) while for high frequencies, the flow functions are expressed in powers of , where being the ratio of the frequency of oscillations ω to the mean disk-angular velocity Ω and i2 = ?1. It is found that the oscillating part of the transverse shearing stress has a phase-lead while that of the radial shearing stress has a phase lag behind the disk oscillations. The phase-lead in the former case and phase-lag in the latter case decrease with the increase in the strength of the applied magnetic field. 相似文献

Summary The formation of a molecular beam in sampling 1 torr to 1 atm. gases (Ar or H2) is studied for three diameters of the sampling orifice. To modulate the beam, use is made of a mechanical chopper placed very near the sampling orifice. This enables us to measure the scattering of the beam by collisions between beam molecules. From our measurements it follows that these collisions are very important for >0.020 mm at an initial pressure of 1 atm. We discuss the consequences of our results for mass spectrometric studies of flames. 相似文献

Nonlinear dynamics problems can generally be solved only in a numerical way. This prevents from a direct application of standard reliability methods. A technique which makes use of iterated response-surface analytical approximations of the system performance function was therefore proposed in view of reliability assessment. The limitation of this technique was of working in a standard normalized space, so that appropriate space transformations are preliminarly required.This paper shows how this response-surface iterative scheme can also be used in the original space of the random variables, provided a maximum log-likelihood constrained optimization problem is solved. The results of theoretical and experimental studies of heat transfer and pressure drop in nonuniform porous materials and systems are presented. In experiments, measurements were made of the air flow rate, inlet and outlet air pressures, and air and porous sample temperatures. Experimental determination of the heat transfer coefficient in porous structures is associated with certain difficulties. The problem of determining a temperature difference between coolant and porous skeleton is the most complex. As a rule, under laboratory conditions this difference is small and cannot be found with sufficient accuracy. In the present work, the method of determination of the internal heat transfer coefficient is based on solving the inverse unsteady heat transfer problem for porous structures. Using this approach, the heat transfer coefficient is calculated indirectly or on the basis of the porous material temperature variation over time. 相似文献

Holographic interferometry was utilized to determine the three orthogonal components of displacement in elastic surface waves. A pulsed ruby laser was used as the light source and techniques to improve its coherence properties are described. Procedures for the formation and reconstruction of the hologram, fringe interpretation, and data reduction and presentation are detailed. The elastic-wave velocities and material constants for pink westerly granite were obtained. Calculations are conducted for unidimensional two-phase flow in nozzles for a wide range of particle concentrations and dimensions. It is established that there exists a maximum in loss of specific momentum due to a lag in particle velocity and temperature relative to the gas. The results obtained are compared with calculations using linearized theory as well as with experimental data. The agreement between calculation and experiment is noted. Equilibrium flow of a two-phase mixture with solidification of liquid particles is considered.
