The combustion of coal and/or biomass (sludge, wood waste, RDF, etc.) in a circulating fluidized bed has been a commercial topper for over 20 years, and references to principles and applications are numerous and widespread although few data are presented concerning the operation of large scale CFB-units. The authors studied the CFB-combustion at UPM-Kymmene (Ayr), a major paper mill relying for its steam production upon the combustion of coal (80-85 %), wood bark (5-10%) and wastewater treatment sludge (5-10%). The maximum capacity of the CFB is 58 MWth. A complete diagnostic of the operation was made, and additional tests were performed to assess the operating mode. The plant schematics, relevant dimensions and process data are given. To assess the operation of the UPM-CFB, it is important to review essential design parameters and principles of CFB combustors, which will be discussed in detail to include required data, heat balance and flowrates, operating versus transport velocity, kinetics and conversion (including the possible effect of the Bouduard reaction if carbon is present). Since the residence time in the riser and the cyclone efficiency determine the burnout of circulating fuel-particles, the UPM-CFB was subjected to a stimulus response technique using nickel oxide as tracer. Results illustrate the efficiency of the cyclone separation and the number of recycle loops for particles of a given size. Results will also be used to assess the cyclone operation and efficiency and to comment upon expected and measured carbon conversion. 相似文献

The dynamics of a buoyant plume rising above a horizontal line heat source in a transverse, horizontal magnetic field is investigated.
Similarity is shown to occur when the magnetic field strength varies as the −2/5 power of vertical distance from the source.
The plume depends on two parameters — the Prandtl number (Pr) and the Lykoudis number (Z
L). Families of exact closed form solutions are derived for Pr=5/9 and Pr≥2. A family of numerical integrations for Pr=0.01 (typical of liquid metals) is also reported. The magnetic field is shown to affect the profiles of velocity and temperature
by altering the similarity functions, the coefficients, and the value of the independent similarity variable corresponding
to a fixed physical position. An approximate closed form solution valid for low Pr and high Z
L is presented. Possible experimental tests of the theory are proposed.

The solution for the finite amplitude, uniaxial motion of a Mooney-Rivlin oscillator on suspension, compression, or horizontal supports, and for arbitrary initial data is presented. The problem is unusual. Depending upon the initial data, the type of support, the amount of static stretch, and the value of a Mooney-Rivlin parameter, the solution may have one of three distinct possible periodic forms. The three cases are solved exactly, and simple bounds on the period of the finite motion are given. Some special situations are illustrated, both analytically and graphically. The effect of the amount of static stretch on the period of superimposed small amplitude oscillations also is described. The nearly constant pitch of the sound radiated by a sufficiently stretched rubber cord, a phenomenon observed independently by two experimenters at the turn of the century, is explained analytically for three ideal rubberlike material models. Transverse vibrational frequency data for three kinds of rubber strings, obtained with the aid of a novel laser apparatus, are compared with the analytical results. A numerical scheme is introduced to compute from the experimental data the apparent average number of links in a molecular chain of a rubberlike material from both simple tension and transverse frequency measurements. It is shown that the nearly flat frequency response is a molecular network finite extensibility effect that is controlled by the apparent number of links in a chain of the molecular network structure. 相似文献

We assessed short-term impacts of changes in military training load on vegetative cover at Fort Hood, TX. From 1989 to 1995, permanent field transects were monitored for vegetative cover and land use disturbance using standard army monitoring methods [Land Condition Trend Analysis (LCTA)]. Land use intensity (training load) was quantified and used to develop a model to predict future vegetation cover values. We found that standard Army monitoring methods detected changes in installation resources associated with changes in training load. Increased training loads were associated with increased measures of disturbance, decreased ground cover, and decreased aerial vegetative cover. We found that the spatial pattern of disturbance and vegetation cover remained relatively constant over the study period despite large variations in overall training load. Our model used the consistency in spatial cover patterns over time and the strong relationship between training load and vegetation cover to predict the impact of future training loads on vegetation. 相似文献

Summary A study is made of a non-self-adjoint eigenvalue problem which arises in guided wave propagation through gyromagnetic media. Specific information is given concerning the distribution of the eigenvalues, asymptotic formulas for the eigenvalues, and the eigenfunction expansion theorem. Although the deleterious effects of ozone on the human respiratory system are well‐known, many of the precise chemical mechanisms that both cause damage and afford protection in the pulmonary epithelial lining fluid are poorly understood. As a key first step to elucidating the intrinsic reactivity of ozone with proteins, its reactions with deprotonated cysteine [Cys?H]? are examined in the gas phase. Reaction proceeds at near the collision limit to give a rich set of products including 1) sequential oxygen atom abstraction reactions to yield cysteine sulfenate, sulfinate and sulfonate anions, and significantly 2) sulfenate radical anions formed by ejection of a hydroperoxy radical. The free‐radical pathway occurs only when both thiol and carboxylate moieties are available, implicating electron‐transfer as a key step in this reaction. This novel and facile reaction is also observed in small cys‐containing peptides indicating a possible role for this chemistry in protein ozonolysis. 相似文献

Enhancements to the ion source and transfer optics of our 9.4 T Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance (ICR) mass spectrometer have resulted in improved ion transmission efficiency for more sensitive mass measurement of complex mixtures at the MS and MS/MS levels. The tube lens/skimmer has been replaced by a dual ion funnel and the following octopole by a quadrupole for reduced ion cloud radial expansion before transmission into a mass‐selective quadrupole. The number of ions that reach the ICR cell is increased by an order of magnitude for the funnel/quadrupole relative to the tube lens/skimmer/octopole. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. 相似文献
