Plasmonic enhancement of linear birefringence and linear dichroism in anisotropic optical metamaterials

The resonant behavior of linear birefringence and linear dichroism spectra is found in anisotropic optical metamaterials made of noble metal thin films with stripes and rectangular hole nanoapertures forming one- or two-dimensional subwavelength gratings. Differences in effective refractive index and extinction coefficient for linearly polarized eigenstates are increased in spectral range of resonances of local and surface plasmon-polaritons at the normal incidence and reach the values of Δn ≃ 2.5 and Δκ ≃ 2.75, respectively.     

Magneto-optical Kerr effect enhancement at the Wood's anomaly in magnetoplasmonic crystals

Magneto-optical Kerr effect enhancement in longitudinal and transversal configurations is systematically studied in one- and two-dimensional magnetoplasmonic crystals based on the nanostructured nickel films. Spectral dependences of magneto-optical effects demonstrate resonant features with the Fano-type lineshape in the spectral vicinity of the Wood's anomaly associated with excitation of surface magnetoplasmons in Voigt and Faraday configurations, respectively.     

Ionic hydrogenation of 2-(ω-diethylaminoalkyl)thiophenes

A method was developed for the ionic hydrogenation of 2-(-diethylaminoalkyl)thiophene with triethylsilane and trifluoroacetic acid; this method gives 2-(-diethylaminoalkyl)-thiophans, which are representatives of previously undescribed thiophan derivatives.Translated from Khimiya Geterotsiklicheskikh Soedinenii, No. 9, pp. 1206–1207, September, 1975.     

Beer classification based on the array of solid-contact potentiometric sensors with thiacalixarene receptors

Potentiometric sensors based on carbon electrodes made by screen-printing and glassy carbon electrodes covered with electropolymerized polyaniline and thiacalix[4]arene receptors have been developed for discrimination of various beer brands using three sensors. The prediction was 100% true according to principal component analysis and linear discriminant analysis.     

Optical properties of one-dimensional subwave plasmonic nanostructures

Nanogratings formed by parallel gold nanowires on a quartz substrate have been fabricated. Their transmission and reflection spectra have been studied experimentally. Numerical simulation of the transmission (reflection) spectra has been performed. The simulated spectra agree well with the experimental ones. A package has been proposed, which combines the experimental techniques of the structure fabrication and theoretical methods for calculating the parameters of optical spectra. This package is a promising tool for designing and fabricating optoelectronic devices such as filters, polarizers, and switches.
