Hydrosilylation of diallyl and divinyl sulfides by dialkylfluorosilanes

Conclusions Hydrosilylation of diallyl sulfide with methylpropylfluorosilane (11 ratio) in the presence of H₂PtCl₆ forms a mixture of the- and -motioadducts in which the former predominates. The major pathway in the equivalent reaction of dialkylfluorosilanes with divinyl sulfide is addition by Farmer's rule. Study of dynamics of global disturbances of the Earth’s magnetosphere using muon detectors

Amethod is developed, whichmakes it possible to predict in advance disturbances in the Earth’s magnetosphere, caused by solar flares or changes in the heliospheric magnetic field, since the cosmic particle flux reaches the Earth much earlier than coronal plasma bursts. To scan the celestial hemisphere, wide-aperture muon detectors are used. A unique system of muon hodoscopes was developed at the NEVOD Science and Education Center (MEPhI, Moscow). The data of the URAGAN muon hodoscope on two-dimensional dynamics of the muon flux during the Forbush effect of November 14, 2006 are analyzed. Changes in the muon flux intensity, measured at various directions with an interval of 30 min are shown. The results obtained demonstrate the muon flux sensitivity to solar plasma cloud motion, which offers prospects to use muon detectors to probe interplanetary space at long distances from the Earth and to predict geomagnetic disturbances.     

Muon diagnostics: Present status

Muon diagnostics is a technique for the remote monitoring of various dynamic processes in the heliosphere and the Earth’s magnetosphere and atmosphere, based on analyzing spatial and angular variations in the flux of muons detected simultaneously from all directions in the upper hemisphere. Approaches to data analysis and some of the results of studies of the atmospheric and extra-atmospheric processes detected using the URAGAN muon hodoscope are discussed.     

Reaction of sulfur with poly(vinyl chloride)

The reaction of elemental sulfur with poly(vinyl chloride) is studied in 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene and without any solvent under various conditions. Black polymers containing 3.77–57.64% chemically bonded sulfur and, according to IR spectroscopy, including >C=C< and >C=S groups in macromolecules are obtained. It is shown that the diffraction curves of poly(vinyl chloride) and of the reaction product containing 7.82% almost coincide but that the thermal stability of the latter is considerably higher than that of the initial polymer. The prospects of the practical use of the products of the reaction of poly(vinyl chloride) with elemental sulfur are demonstrated.     

Conformational properties of metathesis poly(trimethylsilylnorbornene) in solutions

The hydrodynamic and conformational properties of silicon-containing polynorbornene prepared by metathesis polymerization of 5-trimethylsilylnorbornene in the presence of Grubbs Ru carbene complex were studied by viscometry, isothermal translation diffusion, and centrifugal sedimentation. For the ten-sample homologous series of the polymer, Mark-Kuhn-Houwink relationships correlating the hydrodynamic characteristics of the molecules in toluene with their molecular weight were obtained.
