A fiber optic aided spectrophotometric technique has been developed for determination of ruthenium in nitric acid medium. The developed method is simple, accurate and applicable to aqueous streams of nuclear reprocessing. The system obeys Lambert–Beer’s law at 468 nm in the concentration range of 30–360 μg/mL of ruthenium. The molar absorption coefficient, detection limit and Sandell’s sensitivity are 68.477 L Mol?1 cm?1, 31 μg/mL and 0.0124 μg/cm2 respectively. Relative standard deviation was less than 2 % and correlation coefficient was 0.9998. The results obtained by the developed procedure are in good agreement with those obtained by the standard ICP-OES method. Fission products like zirconium and strontium are not interfering. Uranium is interfering and needs prior separation by solvent extraction method. The developed method is adaptable for remote operation and on-line monitoring.  相似文献

The chemistry of the noble metal fission product, ruthenium is very complex due to the existence of many oxidation states in addition to forming a large number of co-ordination complexes. In the PUREX process for the separation of U and Pu from the spent nuclear fuels from fast breeder reactors, owing to the high volatile nature of RuO4 problems arise not only during the extraction stages but also in the treatment of high active liquid waste and subsequent vitrification. As this volatile RuO4 can deposit in cooler parts, there is an increase in the radiation field due to the presence of 106Ru. The problem is very acute in the reprocessing of fast reactor fuels due to the increased concentration of ruthenium in the spent fuel. In nitric acid medium Ru can exist in various nitroso nitrate complexes and nitroso complexes are more stable than nitrates. The nitrates are non-extractable by the solvent TBP; however, they are extractable to a higher degree by DBP (the primary degradation product of TBP). The extractability of Ru nitrates into the solvent is inhibited by high acid content, temperature and prolonged hold-up time. Nevertheless, these factors promote the volatilization of Ru as RuO4. The volatilization is enhanced by the addition of phosphate ions, but is suppressed by phosphite or hypophosphite ions. Thus, it would be advantageous if ruthenium is removed so that not only the purity of the product (Pu) is improved, but also the problem related to volatilisation can be resolved. High molecular weight amines (tertiary amines) capable of forming co-ordinate bonds are reported to be ideal extractants for Ru. Gas phase separation is an effective method for the recovery of Ru from catalysts, lead button and from other platinum group metals. Separation and pre-concentration of noble metals can be accomplished from non-metals by simple sorbents like coconut shell activated carbon to complicated chelating resins, aromatic polymers and zeolites. In the electro-oxidation of active Ru from nitroso salts, Pd was found to interfere and removal of Pd prior to oxidation of Ru is recommended. Redox catalysts such as Ag2+ and Ce4+ are found to play a prominent role in the electro-oxidation of Ru. Though, various methods and extractants are reported in the literature for the separation of Ru, R&D is being pursued for the removal of Ru during aqueous reprocessing of spent fuels using extractants and methods which are conducive to plant conditions. Hence, an exhaustive survey of literature was made and the different methods reported for the removal of Ru with emphasis towards reprocessing applications are discussed in this report as a review. Attempts made by the authors in separating Ru from simulated waste solution are also included in this review.  相似文献

Extraction power of solvent depends upon the physical properties of the system. Tri-n-butyl phosphate (TBP) in dodecane is a versatile solvent used in the nuclear fuel reprocessing like PUREX process. The study of physical properties like density, viscosity, interfacial tension and solubility for TBP–nitric acid–dodecane system will be helpful in carrying out different extraction studies during PUREX process. Thus, physical properties like density, viscosity, interfacial tension and solubility have been measured for TBP–nitric acid–dodecane system using pycnometer, viscometer, pendant drop method and high performance liquid chromatography respectively. It has been observed that density and viscosity increases but interfacial tension and solubility decreases with the concentration of TBP in dodecane–nitric acid system. Physical properties of 30 % TBP–nitric acid–dodecane system have also been studied in detail. All these studies will also be useful in stripping out dissolved TBP from the nuclear waste.  相似文献

This study aims to investigate effects of adenine on bacterial translocation (BT) using 99mTc-labeled E. coli in an intestinal obstruction rat model. In the study twenty-one rats were used. The rats were divided into three groups according to different feeding patterns. The control group (CG) was fed with a standard chow diet for 7 days. Group A1 and group A2 were fed with adenine supplemented chow diet for 7 days. At the end of the feeding period, after all groups was submitted intestinal obstruction. 99mTc-E. coli was injected into the rats’ terminal ileum under anesthetic. The rats were sacrificed under aseptic conditions at 24th h after the surgery. The uptake of 99mTc-E. coli was determined in organs such as the liver, mesenteric lymph nodes, spleen and ileum. Group A1 and group A2 results show that the uptake of 99mTc-E. coli decreased in the blood and organs comparing to the CG. As a result, it was observed that adenine reduced the level of BT when compared with CG. The beneficial effect of adenine on BT in intestinal obstruction was observed. However, further studies are needed to more clearly assess how this benefit can be achieved.  相似文献

Abstract

The behaviour of the three phenoxyacetic acid herbicides 2,4-D, 2,4,5-T and MCPA during underground passage and bankfiltration was tested in a model system consisting of laboratory filter columns filled with natural underground materials. Different redox environments were reproduced by operating the filters with natural aerobic and anaerobic groundwater. In the presence of oxygen, biodegradation of the three herbicides started after a lag phase. Under sulfate reducing conditions, no degradation could be observed. To assess the factors that may influence microbial degradation in the anaerobic environment, the concentration of herbicides, the time and the nutrient content were varied, but this did not increase degradation. The maximum retention of the herbicides in the filters was 30%, mainly due to adsorption to the filter material.  相似文献

Abstract

Sample handling is still a weak point in chromatography and in analytical chemisty in general. One consideration is the automation potential of new procedures. Solid-liquid extraction techniques in combination with pre-column technology are particularly promising in this regards. The construction and geometry of pre-columns both for conventional and narrow-bore HPLC are of major importance, since band broadening should be kept at a minimum for an optimal functioning of the analytical system. The various operations that can be carried out with such a pre-column are trace-enrichment, clean-up of the sample which depends on the type of adsorbents used in the precolumn, i.e., polar or apolar materials, ion exchangers or metal covered surfaces, etc., protection of the analytical column, field sampling and storage of samples and as a substrate for on-column chemical derivatizations. These various operations are demonstrated with practical examples from the fields of environmental and biological analysis. The selectivity can be further enhanced by coupling precolumn technology with selective detection modes such as diode array UV, electrochemical or fluorescence detection. This enables the construction of optimal and integrated analysis sytems which are fully automated and microprocessor controlled. They can also be made compatible with miniaturized LC-technology.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The polluting effects of Iponri-Alaka Canal in Surulere area of Lagos State on the environment have been studied using six sampling points. The study aimed at assessing the effects of exposure to pollutants on humans and other life forms. The quality of air, wastewater and sediments was assessed between March and August 2017. The concentrations of SO2 and H2S were measured using MSA Altair 5X. Temperature, pH and DO were measured in-situ using Thermometer, pH meter and Winkler method, respectively. TSS, TDS, TS, TA, TH, BOD, chloride Cl?, PO43-, SO42- and NO3? were determined using appropriate standard methods in the laboratory. EC and some heavy metals (Cr, Pb, Mn, Cd and Ni) concentrations were determined using conductivity meter and Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy, respectively. The results showed that pH, TS, DO and TH were well within the WHO and FEPA maximum limits. EC, SO42- and TDS were observed to be higher than guideline values only at one sampling point. The TSS, BOD, TA, NO3? and PO43- were higher than WHO and FEPA guideline limits at all sampling points. Cr was seen to be within, while Pb and Mn were higher than WHO and FEPA guideline values. Cd was higher than guideline values only at two sampling points. Ni was below detection concentration at all the sampling points.

The concentration of SO2 was seen to be higher than WHO and NESREA guideline values at two sampling points, while H2S concentration was higher than WHO limit at all the six sampling points.  相似文献

A detailed chemical kinetic model for oxidation of CH3OH at high pressure and intermediate temperatures has been developed and validated experimentally. Ab initio calculations and Rice–Ramsperger–Kassel–Marcus/transition state theory (RRKM/TST) analysis were used to obtain rate coefficients for , , , and . The experiments, involving CH3OH/O2 mixtures diluted in N2, were carried out in a high‐pressure flow reactor at 600–900 K and 20–100 bar, varying the reaction stoichiometry from very lean to fuel‐rich conditions. Under the conditions studied, the onset temperature for methanol oxidation was not dependent on the stoichiometry, whereas increasing pressure shifted the ignition temperature toward lower values. Model predictions of the present experimental results, as well as rapid compression machine data from the literature, were generally satisfactory. The governing reaction pathways have been outlined based on calculations with the kinetic model. Unlike what has been observed for unsaturated hydrocarbons, the oxidation pathways for CH3OH under the investigated conditions were very similar to those prevailing at higher temperatures and lower pressures. At the high pressures, the modeling predictions for onset of reaction were particularly sensitive to the reaction.  相似文献

Effect of doping at Ti4+ site by Ce3+ has been examined in CaCu3Ti3.90Ce0.10O12 synthesized by citrate-gel route. DTA/TG analysis of dry powder gives pre-information about formation of final product around 850 °C. X ray diffraction analysis confirmed the formation of CaCu3Ti3.90Ce0.10O12 phase of the ceramic sintered at 950 °C for 12 h. Microstructure has been studied using scanning electron microscopy and confirmed the average grain size found in nano range 200–400 nm in system CaCu3Ti3.90Ce0.10O12.The nature of relaxation behavior of ceramic was also rationalized by using the impedance and modulus spectroscopy. The bulk conductivity indicates an Arrhenius-type thermally activated process. The ac conductivity spectrum obeyed the Jonscher power law. The complex impedance diagrams of the ceramic exhibited a significant contribution from the grains, grain boundaries and electrode. The activation energies calculated from the grain-boundary relaxation time constant was found to be 0.49 eV which confirmed the Maxwell–Wagner type of relaxation present in the ceramic.  相似文献

Understanding the roles of various parameters in orchestrating the preferential chiral molecular organization in supramolecular self‐assembly processes is of great significance in designing novel molecular functional systems. Cyclic dipeptide (CDP) chiral auxiliary‐functionalized naphthalenediimides (NCDPs 1 – 6 ) have been prepared and their chiral self‐assembly properties have been investigated. Detailed photophysical and circular dichroism (CD) studies have unveiled the crucial role of the solvent in the chiral aggregation of these NCDPs. NCDPs 1 – 3 form supramolecular helical assemblies and exhibit remarkable chiroptical switching behaviour (M‐ to P‐type) depending on the solvent composition of HFIP and DMSO. The strong influence of solvent composition on the supramolecular chirality of NCDPs has been further corroborated by concentration and solid‐state thin‐film CD studies. The chiroptical switching between supramolecular aggregates of opposite helicity (M and P) has been found to be reversible, and can be achieved through cycles of solvent removal and redissolution in solvent mixtures of specific composition. The control molecular systems (NCDPs 4 – 6 ), with an achiral or D ‐isomer second amino acid in the CDP auxiliary, did not show chiral aggregation properties. The substantial roles of hydrogen bonding and π–π interactions in the assembly of the NCDPs have been validated through nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), photophysical, and computational studies. Quantum chemical calculations at the ab initio, semiempirical, and density functional theory levels have been performed on model systems to understand the stabilities of the right (P‐) and left (M‐) handed helical supramolecular assemblies and the nature of the intermolecular interactions. This study emphasizes the role of CDP chiral auxiliaries on the solvent‐induced helical assembly and reversible chiroptical switching of naphthalenediimides.  相似文献
