Monoterpene-Containing Substituted Coumarins as Inhibitors of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) Replication

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a critical cause of infant mortality. However, there are no vaccines and adequate drugs for its treatment. We showed, for the first time, that O-linked coumarin–monoterpene conjugates are effective RSV inhibitors. The most potent compounds are active against both RSV serotypes, A and B. According to the results of the time-of-addition experiment, the conjugates act at the early stages of virus cycle. Based on molecular modelling data, RSV F protein may be considered as a possible target.

Solubility of Gliclazide and Ion-Molecular Interactions with Aminopropanol in Aqueous Solutions

A new salt of gliclazide (GZD) was prepared and was shown to have a significantly higher aqueous solubility at physiological pH together with superior dissolution profiles in comparison to GZD employing an organic amino-alcohol base. Characterization by NMR, IR, DSC, conductometry and HPLC techniques concluded that an ion pair salt is formed between acidic GZD and basic aminopropanol (AMP). In addition to the presence of about 5% tightly bound water, hydrogen bonds appeared to form extensively between GZD, AMP and water molecules. Unlike many of solubility enhancing approaches, the salt did not hamper the permeability of GZD as shown by transport through Caco-2 cells model. In vivo studies on rats confirmed that the blood glucose lowering effect of GZD-AMP was significantly higher and more rapid compared to parent GZD indicating an enhanced overall performance of the prepared salt.

[(η5-C5HR4)CuCO] (R = CHMe2) – A Remarkably Stable Copper Carbonyl Complex and its Reaction with P4

Carbonyl(tetraisopropylcyclopentadienyl)copper has been synthesized and isolated and can be stored at room temperature for several days. [(C₅HR₄)Cu(CO)] (R = CHMe₂) has been characterized by ¹H and ¹³C NMR, C,H analysis, mass spectrometry, and IR spectroscopy. Its reaction with white phosphorus yields a mixture of [(C₅HR₄)Cu(η²-P₄)] with edge-opened P₄ coordinated to a Cu^III atom and [(C₅HR₄)Cu(μ,η^2:1-P₄)Cu(C₅HR₄)] with an additional Cu(C₅HR₄) fragment coordinated to one atom of the P₄ ligand (R = CHMe₂).     

A Comparative Study of Single and Double Langmuir Probe Techniques for RF Plasma Characterization

In this study, the plasma density and electron temperature of Radio Frequency (RF) plasmas were determined by three types of Langmuir probes, namely a conventional double probe, a single probe with RF choke and a single probe with RF choke and compensating electrode. The same plasmas were characterized by the three probes, each performing three measurements per plasma condition, in order to determine the precision of the measurement results. After performing a comparative analysis, which looked at the precision and the accuracy of these results, the conclusion is that the double probe, which has already the advantage of the simplest construction, yields the most reliable results for both capacitively and inductively coupled RF plasmas. The single probe with RF choke and compensating electrode has a similar precision as the single probe without compensating electrode, but its accuracy is better.     

Optimality conditions for fractional variational problems with dependence on a combined Caputo derivative of variable order

We establish necessary optimality conditions for variational problems with a Lagrangian depending on a combined Caputo derivative of variable fractional order. The endpoint of the integral is free, and thus transversality conditions are proved. Several particular cases are considered illustrating the new results.
