Ξ * resonances inΞ −be interactions

In an experiment carried out in the CERN SPS hyperon beam, the diffractive dissociation of incidentΞ ^? hyperons into ΛK ^? andΞ ^?π⁺π^? final states has been observed. Several resonances are seen in the final states, including the well known Ξ(1820) which appears in both channels, and the Ξ(1680) which appears as a narrow state (M=1691.1±2.7 MeV/c², Γ<8 MeV/c²) in the ΛK^? channel and possibly also in the Ξππ channel.     

RM values of naphthols and acetophenones in structure-activity studies

The RM values of naphthols obtained in a chromatographic system where the stationary phase consisted of a silica gel G layer impregnated with silicone oil are much more closely related to the log P values in an octanol-water system than the RM values determined on polyamide layers. Similarly, the RM values of a series of acetophenones in the silicone system are closely related to their log P values. The equations describing the structure-activity relationship indicate the importance of lipophilic character and halogen substitution in determining the hemolytic activity and the acute toxicity of compounds.     

Ester,amide and ether derivatives of 1-(p-phenyl-substituted)-1,2,3-triazoles

This paper describes the preparation of three series of 1-phenyl-1,2,3-triazol derivatives with an ester, amide or ether group on the phenyl ring. These derivatives were obtained from 4-hydroxyphenyl- and 4-aminophenyltriazoles, previously synthesized by us, by means of a nucleophilic substitution reaction with acetic anhydride, acyl and alkyl halides. The largest part of compounds were tested in an agricultural chemicals, nutrition and animal health screening programme.     

A horizontal pendulum tiltmeter with digital recording system

Summary A horizontal pendulum tiltmeter with digital recording system, particularly in order to monitor preseismic and postseismic crustal deformations, has been realized at the Physics Department of the University of Rome ?La Sapienza?. The entire equipment consists of two tilt sensors, an electronic package and an automatic calibration system. The tilt sensors have been realized making use of materials with low value of the coefficient of linear expansion to ensure their stability. The pendulums can easy work at a free period up to 20 s, which corresponds to a resolution of 0.05 μrad. The electronic circuits have been made with components of low current drain in order to ensure a wide endurance, also with battery feed only. The output data are collected periodically by means of a portable computer. The system can work on line, too.

Riassunto Presso il Dipartimento di Fisica dell'Università ?La Sapienza? di Roma è stato realizzato un nuovo inclinometro a pendolo orizzontale con sistema di acquisizione digitale dei dati, che ha lo scopo di studiare le deformazioni crostali presismiche e postsismiche. L'intero dispositivo consta di due sensori, di un package elettronico e di un sistema automatico di taratura. I sensori sono stati realizzati utilizzando materiali a basso coefficiente di dilatazione termica per assicurare loro una buona stabilità. I pendoli possono lavorare facilmente con un periodo proprio fino a 20 s, che corrisponde ad una risoluzione di 0.05 μrad. I circuiti elettronici sono stati realizzati con componenti a basso consumo di corrente in modo da garantire una grande autonomia di funzionamento, anche con alimentazione a batterie. I dati acquisiti dal sistema vengono prelevati periodicamente per mezzo di un computer portatile. Il sistema può lavorare anche on-line.

     

Exclusive measurements of light fragment production at forward angles in Ne-Pb and Ne-NaF collisions at E/A=400 MeV and 800 MeV

Emission of light fragments at small angles is studied in relativistic heavy ion collisions using the Diogene plastic wall for both symmetrical and non-symmetrical target-projectile systems with 400 MeV per nucleon and 800 MeV per nucleon incident neon nuclei. Efficiency of multiplicity measurements in the small angle range for the selection of central or peripheral collisions is confirmed for asymmetric systems. Differential production cross sections of Z = 1 fragments show evidence for the existence of two emitting sources. The apparent temperature of each source is obtained from comparison with a thermodynamical model.     

A measurement of the branching ratio∑ +→pγ/∑ +→pπ 0⋆

In an experiment performed in the CERN SPS hyperon beam we have obtained a value for the branching ratio $${{\Sigma ^ + \to p\gamma } \mathord{\left/ {\vphantom {{\Sigma ^ + \to p\gamma } {\Sigma ^ + \to p\pi }}} \right. \kern-\nulldelimiterspace} {\Sigma ^ + \to p\pi }}^0 of\left( {2.46_{ - 0.35}^{ + 0.30} } \right) \times 10^{ - 3} ,$$ corresponding to a branching ratio $${{\Sigma ^ + \to p\gamma } \mathord{\left/ {\vphantom {{\Sigma ^ + \to p\gamma } {\Sigma ^ + \to all}}} \right. \kern-\nulldelimiterspace} {\Sigma ^ + \to all}}of\left( {1.27_{ - 0.18}^{ + 0.16} } \right) \times 10^{ - 3} .$$ This result is discussed in the context of present understanding of hyperon radiative decays.     

Synthesis of new 1,2,3-triazolo[1,2-a]benzotriazoles or 2,3-benzo-1,3a,6,6a-tetraazapentalenes

Some new v-triazolo[1,2-a]benzotriazoles or 2,3-benzo-1,3a,6,6a-tetraazapentalenes were prepared according to previously employed synthetic routes concerning deoxycyclization reactions of appropriate nitrophenyl-1,2,3-triazole derivatives and/or thermal decompositions of appropriate azidophenyl-1,2,3-triazoles. The nitration of 9-phenyl-1,2,3-triazolo[1,2-a]benzotriazoles allowed the isolation of some mononitro- and trinitro-derivatives, whose structures were assigned by chemical and spectroscopic methods.     

Access to Versatile β‐Cyclodextrin Scaffolds through Guest‐Mediated Monoacylation

Herein, we report the selective mono‐derivatization of heptakis[6‐deoxy‐6‐(2‐aminoethylsulfanyl)]‐β‐CD ( 1 ) through a guest‐mediated covalent capture strategy. The use of guests functionalized with cleavable linkers enables the installation of an amine‐orthogonal thiol group on the primary rim of 1 as a handle for further transformations to the β‐CD scaffold. Applying this methodology, two novel monoderivatized β‐CDs were obtained in good yield and high purity. Both of these monoacylated CDs were amenable to facile linker cleavage and further modification at the resulting thiol group. This methodology can be applied towards the synthesis heterofunctionalized β‐CD constructs for analyte sensing, drug delivery, and other applications.     

Simultaneous determination of lactate and pyruvate in human sweat using reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography: a noninvasive approach

The simultaneous determination of lactate and pyruvate in sweat has been performed using reversed phase high‐performance liquid chromatography (RP‐HPLC) with UV detection at 220 nm. The calibration curves were linear in the investigated range 0.3 ‐ 350 mm of lactate, 0.003‐ 1 mm of pyruvate. The sensitivity was good with a limit of detection of 0.03 mm for lactate and 0.001 mm for pyruvate. Recoveries evaluated for the entire procedure were 102 ± 0.1 and 96 ± 0.1for lactate and pyruvate, respectively. The method was successfully applied to analysis of sweat in 8 athletes at rest (pilocarpine sweating) and during physical exercise. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
