Determination of phosphorous in organic compounds and metal complexes by inductively-coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry

Phosphorus is determined by inductively-coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry at 213.618 nm. Different types of organic and inorganic phosphorus compounds and metal complexes were examined after direct dissolution in water, aqueous ethanol or acid, or after decomposition by oxygen flask combustion or Kjeldahl digestion; results were within the usual limit of precision and accuracy for such determinations. The effect of small (<20%) ethanol concentrations in the aqueous solution on the signals obtained from a low-power (1200 W) argon plasma is examined and discussed.     

High-performance liquid radiochromatography: Its application for stability study of [3H] stobadin

An HPLC method was developed for studying the stability of [³H] stobadin stored in physiological saline or buffers at various pH. Optimum conditions for the separation of degradation products were elaborated. A high-performance liquid chromatograph equipped with a radioactivity detector was used.     

Magnetic structures of R(Cu,Ni)2 compounds (R = heavy rare earth) studied by neutron diffraction

Magnetics structures of powdered orthorhombic R(Cu, Ni)₂ compounds (R = heavy rare earth) determined by neutron diffraction are described. The influence of magnetocrystalline anisotropy and exchange interactions on the type of magnetic ordering is discussed.Dedicated to Academician Vladimír Hajko on the occasion of his 65th brithday.We would like to express our thanks to Professor P. Recovery and recrystallization in AISI 321 steel under static conditions

Static softening of AISI 321 steel after cold and hot deformation characterizing the industrial thermomechanical treatment was studied by means of tensile tests and TEM. The deformation temperature, the strain and the grain size were the main parameters determining the final softening. The results can be applied for optimization of the solution annealing.     

Electrical properties of some crystalline salts of adenine

In the present paper we report the first experimental results on ac and dc conductivity and permittivity of adenine hemisulphate hydrate and adenine sulphate measured at atmospheric and high hydrostatic pressures. For both materials ac conductivity is of ^s type, where:s 1·1· Room temperature dc conductivity of adenine hemisulphate hydrate equals approximately 5×10^{–15 –1} cm^–1 with an activation energy of 0·86 eV; dc conductivity of adenine sulphate is less than 10^–16 cm^–1. On the basis of these measurements and those carried out at high pressure, it is concluded that conductivity of adenine hemisulphate hydrate is of electronic type.The authors wish to thank Dr. J. Density of states for intermediate valence and Kondo systems

We calculate the density of states for the nondegenerate Anderson model for various values ofu=U/ andn _f using the perturbation theory withu as the expansion parameter. Summing all the -independent self-energy diagrams, we use the Friedel sum rule and Ward identities to express the physical quantities in terms of the remaining -dependent part of the self-energy, which we evaluate to the 2nd order. The results for the spin and charge susceptibilities obtained in such a way compare rather well with the Bethe-ansatz results. The density of states exhibits different features in different parts of the parameter space. In Kondo region (u>1,n _f 1, i.e., – _f ~U/2), we obtain a many-body resonance (half-width T _K ) around the Fermi level and two broad peaks () at about _f +n _f U and _f +U. In the VF region (u>1, and | _f |) we obtain only two peaks (), one at about _f and one between _f +n _f U and _f +U. The consequences regarding the shape of the photoemission and inverse photoemission spectra of Ce intermetallics are discussed.     

Spektroskopische Untersuchungen der Metallkomplexe des 2,5-Dibenzoyl-3,4-dihydroxyselenophens

Zusammenfassung Eine Reihe von Metallkomplexen des 2,5-Dibenzoyl-3,4-dihydroxy-selenophens wurden spektroskopisch untersucht. Das Verhalten des Wismutkomplexes und die Möglichkeiten einer spektrophotometrischen Wismutbestimmung auf diesem Wege wurden eingehend studiert.

Summary A spectroscopic examination was made of a series of metal complexes of 2,5-dibenzoyl-3,4-dihydroxyselenophen. The behavior of the bismuth complex and the possibilities of a spectrophotometric method of determining bismuth in this manner were studied thoroughly.

Sequencing of tri- and tetraantennary N-glycans containing sialic acid by negative mode ESI QTOF tandem MS

Application of the negative mode electrospray ionization-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (ESI QTOF) tandem MS for determination of substitution patterns by sialic acid and/or fucose and extention by additional LacNAc disaccharide units in single branches of multianternary N-glycans from biological samples is described. Fragmentation patterns which can be obtained by low energy collision-induced dissociation (CID) using the QTOF instrument include cleavage ions, diagnostic for determination of antennarity and for specific structural features of single antennae. Systematic fragmentation studies in the negative ion mode were focussed toward formation of the D diagnostic ion relevant for assignment of 3- and 6-antennae in complex N-glycans carrying three and four antennae in combination with epitope-relevant B- and C-type ions. For validation of this approach ESI QTOF fragmentation of the permethylated analogues was carried out in the positive ion mode. Using this strategy, products of in vitro glycosylation reactions were investigated in order to clarify some general aspects of N-glycan acceptor specificity during biosynthesis. Alpha1-3fucosylation using GDP-fucose along with a soluble form of the recombinant human alpha1-3fucosyltransferase VI was carried out on tri- and tetraantennary precursors to test structural requirements for formation of Le(x) versus sLe(x) motifs.

Effect of water-soluble cross-linker on the growth and properties of ethyl acrylate–methacrylic acid emulsion opolymer particles

Model ethyl acrylate–methacrylic acid copolymer latices and latices of particles cross-linked by copolymerizing small amounts of water-soluble N,N′-methylenebisacrylamide were prepared by nonseeded semicontinuous emulsion copolymerization. Dynamic and static light scattering measurements indicated a slightly higher degree of polydispersity in the case of cross-linked particles, especially in the initial stages of polymerization. The hydrodynamic volume of the alkalinized particles controlling the viscosity properties of the dispersions decreased with the time of polymerization and in the case of cross-linked copolymer almost reached a constant value at about 1 h. The different character of the particle structure was confirmed by differences in particle disintegration after alkali addition or in the presence of methanol.
